Late Evening Starring Akemi, Mai and Sakaba. Before going on their separate ways Akemi and Sakaba where ambushed by an out of control Centaur that likely came from a Gate portal. In a matter of minutes the beast had been dealt with before it could cause greater harm.
" Seems like we cant let our guard down anymore no matter where we are. " They couldn't simply leave the Tarvos lifeless carcass in the middle of their practices field for there to rot so she decided to give Sakaba's trainees a hand disposing of the remains of the creature.
" I know the perfect analgesic for such an injury. "The Tarvos managed to land a glancing blow on the instructor and while it had left a bit of a bruise it was not a life threatening injury, still this made it easier for Akemi to convince him to drop by Raven Rest later to have some sake to kill the pain. " Its also where i'm currently staying. I just rent a room from the innkeeper and since she's a friend I get a very good deal. "
It had been about a month since the last time Akemi drank a drop of alcohol and after being a POW she could use a good buzz to help her forget that miserable experience. An hour or two later the two agreed to meet at the square and from there she would take him to Miss Watanabe's inn in the commercial district.

It'd be unnatural for one not to get injured in battle. That was a solid truth that accompanied soldiers everywhere; injuries, for whatever reason, accompanied skirmishes everywhere. With that in mind, it would be a given that Sakaba should take it well, right? Wrong. What turned out to be a light injury caused him slight wooziness immediately after, but more than that, it was in-front of one of his previous soldiers. He has shown how rusty he's gone in terms of practical combat, assuming his post to be safe and taking it for granted for far too long.
Maybe he just wasn't cut out for this sort of work after all... That shouldn't have happened that way...
It'd be a lie to say it didn't get to him. But for the moment, the instructor did everything in his ability to hide away the bitterness. "Ahh, thank you, Akemi." He said; "It's in your favor we got out of there so, lightly." Sakaba thanked further. She'd not only helped in combat, but also in treating the wound. And there he was, lagging. Despicable, if anything...
That alone wasn't going to stop him from keeping his promise. The day took an unexpected direction, but not one to ruin the rest of it. Dressed neatly in one of his personal kimonos, donning pale blue colors, Sakaba made his way through the districts of Kitsuki in search for Raven Rest. An inn would surely be on this path, right? Having never before gotten to explore the route, his pace was slow enough to take in every bit of information he could. For this late an hour, a large crowd seemed to be passing about. Surprisingly. Was Kitsuki always this lively?
Soon enough, the instructor met with the appropriate sign. "Akemi's renting here then." Well... Let's see.

The inn's atmosphere was warm with a mild humidity attributed with the amount of customers inside. Folks sitting about spoke casually to each other, eating homemade dumplings and whatever was on the menu for the evening. Two charming young waitresses moved swiftly about the large tavern, serving the guests as they came and gone.
"Tasty sake!" "These dumplings are so soft and juicy!" "Another order, please!"
The opening night of the Raven's Rest was bustling! It's location within the mercantile district made it easy to access, and the fresh recipes and scent of food reeled in customers by the bundle! What a smart move this was!
If only she could keep up with this hubbub...
A woman in foreign attire of lavender and topaz color was leaned against the wall behind a tall desk. Her hair was tied up by an emerald ribbon, with thick, straight hair braided into a tail. Her face was pretty, covered in light makeup to cover the dark circles hidden beneath her eyes. Everyone exchanged glances with the mysterious innkeeper, but they dared not question her when they were given free sake on opening night! AkemiSakaba

For Akemi it was a good thing that her inn keeper miss Mai was in such melancholic mood. For starters she would most likely tease her about her bringing a guest with her tonight. While seeing her like this was worrisome there was nothing that could be done to bring her high spirits back.
By the time the instructor arrived Akemi was already at the front, wearing a cyan yukata that she had obtained recently. " Glad you could make it, teach " She was smiling brightly, not thinking too much about the incident earlier that afternoon. The way she saw it everyone got a little roughed up every once in a while.
With how many people where here tonight it was a good thing Akemi had a table reserved for them. There was no reason to not order some free sake but she could go for a beer as well. " You wouldn't believe the nerve of those Nohrian assholes. After I was captured this Knightess approaches me and tells me that if I cooperate with them telling them what they want to hear she would sell me as a concubine for their disgusting Nobles. So I told her to piss off and spat on her face. oh she didnt like that! The cheeky cu ... " After a few drinks she was already more loose in her manner of speech.
"Akemi." He greeted, still a tad uneasy. Following his companion, the most outstanding detail he took note of once inside,, was the crowding. If he assumed the outside was crowded, this was a different level on its own, considering the space granted. It was packed; customers everywhere. Some even soldiers. As his eyes scanned the large room, Sakaba came across the sight of a beautiful woman, modestly dressed and standing behind a desk of sorts. He then noticed the passing ladies; waitresses, attendants as it seems. His face lightened. Naturally in a place like this, one or two gems would be around. Not bad. "Quite the place you have to yourself. And you say you're friends with the owner?" Not bad at all.
And then, it happened. A sudden rant, raining down on the instructor. He only promptly managed to order a bottle of sake and a small glass from a passing waitress, luckily receiving it very shortly after; all the while, she went on. "--Wait, wait." He abruptly cut in, increasingly uncomfortable with this openness. He even went as far as to stretch his palm out, physically signaling his request for her to stop.
"I'm, a little lost there." He admitted, pouring the liquid into his cup. After quickly taking it in, he was ready to continue. "What's that about a Nohrian knightess and being captured? Akemi, you don't mean to tell me this has to do with Fort Jinya, right?" That was, the only conclusion he could arrive at following today's information.

"Irasshaimase," greeted the innkeeper glumly as they came in. The two waitresses floating about followed up with her greeting, "Irasshaimase!"
The innkeeper's eyes drifted to the newcomers, then widened with surprise. Akemi came in without so much of a peep, followed by someone who was familiar with her. What a winsome fellow... had Akemi some relationships she did not speak of? Naturally, one would assume such a thing!
"Ara? Isn't that Sakaba-sensei?" "Haha, it is." "Who is that woman with him? His girlfriend? What a loose tongue she has..."
The voices of the patrons began circulating in hushed voices, yet the trained ears of the innkeeper caught them all. Rumors were no good... particularly with distinguished individuals. Since he was titled "sensei" by the customers, the innkeeper knew someone's reputation was at stake.
Not only that, their own private operation at Fort Jinya could also be in jeopardy of being revealed because of Akemi's drunken looseness! It was time for intervention...
"Kihara-saaaan," the innkeeper greeted as she suddenly appeared beside the two as she plopped a beef dumpling inside the girl's mouth, "You're back, and you've brought this handsome fellow with you." She looked up at the instructor coyly and smiled, "Welcome to the Raven's Rest. I am Mai Watanabe, innkeeper." AkemiSakaba

" Those people have a lot of balls invading our land and acting as if they own the damned place. " Akemi held the flawed belief the chatter all around them would drown their conversation. The Oni felt at home even with all these people around so in her mind it was perfectly acceptable to openly discuss her experience with someone she was acquainted with.
Contrary to popular belief she wasn't drunk after only having two cups of sake by herself. The slight alcohol relaxed every muscle in her body including her tongue which she'd almost bitten off during her time in captivity.
" The day will c- "Before she could even utter another word her mouth was stuffed with a delicious Gyoza, fried to perfection.
She couldn't even attempt to be upset at Mai for interrupting her a time like this. The succulent taste on each bite she took was enough to bring her to tears. How truly grateful she was to be able to taste this heavenly food; at least compared to the poisonous, maggot infested left overs the Nohrians threw her way on that cell.
" I think i'll have another one of those. " And just like that she was sniffling, wiping away her tears with the sleeve of her Yukata. Before she could embarras himself any further in public she realized introductions where in order or else Mai wouldn't pipe down. " oh! This is my former instructor, Oouyou-san. " While Akemi still valued him as her mentor now that she'd joined the ranks they where equal and her manner of addressing him matched this change.
The whispers about him flew right by his ear as the instructor locked his focus completely on the woman he came to accompany. If he had a bit more information, he was sure he could at least decipher what exactly happened, if anything happened at all. It was possible that this was all loose talk he was offered; but, sitting rather close to Akemi let him determine, how her breath lacked any major scent of alcohol. She also hadn't drank once since his actual arrival. So then, was this simply blowing off steam?
Before the instructor could piece a proper reaction, he was caught off guard; flinching in his place as he watched a hand, pushing a gyoza into his former student's mouth! How bizarre. Turning to the new character that appeared, a drop of sweat rolled down the young man's head, relieved. He didn't think he'd be lucky enough to have the beautiful woman approach him herself, even if the situation called for it differently. Mai right?
"Very well." Calming himself, Sakaba stood up briefly to face the tall woman. Offering a polite, light bow with his introduction. "Thank you for having me. I'm Instructor Ouyuu Sakaba." He promptly followed, flashing a smile at the innkeeper before reclaiming his seat; moving to pour himself yet another cup. "I understand you are looking after my past disciple. Regardless of the circumstances, you have my thanks for that." He was expressing an awful lot of gratitude for a first talk.
"Also, if I may order one of these for myself, please." Drinking on an empty stomach is never a good idea.

Mai flashed a lip smile before nodding her head, "Ouyuu-sensei, ne? I've known Kihara-san since she was a young girl." She patted the young woman's head affectionately, "Taught her all she knows about being a lady, only... fufufu..." a gentle giggle reverberated from her throat as she winked at the instructor teasingly, "She may have forgotten when she began service in the military. Too much testosterone floating about. I digress!" She leaned away from them, "I'll bring out your gyoza in a flash."
Without missing a beat, the innkeeper disappeared into the kitchen and began barking orders to the staff. AkemiSakaba

Having this type of exchange happen around her was quite embarrassing and exactly the same reason why she hadn't told Mai anything about it until now. Still. it wasn't as if there where any better inns around not to mention that if she ended up drinking too much her room was just around the corner. Everything Mai said was more or less right but there was also an hint of exaggeration mixed in with her words. It was easy to see Sakaba was interested in the Inn keeper just like most men.
" Don't let the appearances deceive you. Mai will eat you alive if you give her an excuse. " Only a handful of times did Akemi provoke the inn keeper's anger and she ended up regretting it ... somewhat. Having these two exchange pleasantries nd introductions was enough to make her absolutely forget what they where talking about before hand.
Once Sakaba was done pouring himself a cup she took it getting a drink for herself. " Kampai. " A toast was in order so she raised her cup and downed the sake in one go, getting herself another drink shortly after gulping that one down.
If anything the instructor could take from this light exchange, it was that the two women were awfully close, that much apparent by the innkeeper's manner of speech. Best friends, probably. He'd lie to say his curiosity wasn't piqued, about the woman. Watching, as she left, how several of the other men occupying the inn followed with their gazes. "It's not the testosterone... right...?" He muttered under his breath, after Mai had left to the back.
He half-expected a warning of the sorts to come his way. As such, he only chuckled at Akemi's words. "I suppose I'll have to watch my back then." He jested in response. Lifting up his own cup and downing it as well, only an instant slower than his companion. "But she's quite popular." That, apparent enough from the bustling inn's folk alone. To an outsider to Kitsuki, it'd be natural to be surprised.
Sakaba took the liberty to pour his company and then himself another cup. He wasn't planning on finishing this round so quickly, thinking the alcohol should affect him soon enough. But it was handed regardless, simply to keep a merry air. All the while, fully ignorant to the surrounding talk. "You know, by contrast there's barely anything similar to that in my field. The worst I have to deal with is a pompous genersl or two."
For the next couple of hours the two of them talked about mundane things. Akemi went on about how she knew what type of ingredients the girls in the kitchen used to cook these perfect beef Gyozas. In time the two of them got their orders sorted out and as always Akemi dumped hers into the soy sauce more than once.
Eventually she'd forgotten how many cups of sake she had, losing the count somewhere around twelve. Akemi was visibly buzzed but she could still see straight. At this hour most of the clients where walking out one after the other so they could discuss other more personal matters openly. " I've always been a bit of a hellcat myself so I've never gotten along with the people in charge. They look down on us too much. "
" I understand that we are at war and some sacrifices have to be made and all that but it really makes you wonder if there would be anyone left in the end. " After surviving a couple of encounters with the enemy Akemi came to the realization their officers- mostly Samurai's- where fond of using them as disposable assets at best.
Unlike his companion and much to his shame in the future, Sakaba failed to properly restrain himself. While the woman wasn't drinking so much as to get hazy vision, the instructor took cups rapidly in comparison, easily persuaded by the beautiful waitresses. By two hours' time, he had already downed two whole bottles and was nearing on his third. While that did win him some favor with fellow soldiers in the inn, if it wasn't for Akemi stepping in once the young man began rocking in his seat. Alas. A full stomach wasn't enough to pose resistance.
"It's not fair!!" He loudly protested. "We do our best to prepare soldiers for this, but those mustached bastards chuckle as they're laid to waste!!" He may have referred to a very specific superior he had encountered in the past with that one. "We're not meat shields! We're not supposed to be...!" And with that, the sobbing began. He had a lot to say about that, of course. But in a vulnerable state like that, face practically red as a tomato, he could barely let much go.

Mai had returned herself to her seat shortly after serving the gyoza to the two of them and slumped once more against the wall.
Those two really drink their hearts out, don't they? Everything they're saying is simply complaint after complaint about the military system.
True, generals and their loyal pawns have a disparage of views between each other... yet, it only seemed as if Ouyuu spoke indirectly to a particular individual.
Ah, one trial at a time here. She still had yet to embark on her suicide mission. There was no room for stress for his own troubles as of now; nevertheless, that indomitable mindset of ethics certainly showed itself once again in her heart, even if it were from the babbling of a drunk man.
The innkeeper rose from her seat and placed a hand on his shoulder, along with one on Akemi .
"Shishou," she spoke gently, "This is a free place to share your troubles. Please, what is on your mind? I'm always interested in hearing the stories of veterans." Sakaba
Surely if the man had drank less, he still would have preserved rational thought process. But under the effects of heavy alcohol, he could barely piece together much of a single, negative thought; only drowning himself further in his surprise sorrow. That the soldiers he was working so hard to train and teach, were sent to the front lines and killed in action, while their superiors did nothing to atone for such. For the most part, it should be deducted that the guilty ones are said superiors, but in this case, Sakaba blamed himself for their loss.
What a sorry state. "I-I'm sorry, Akemi... It's just, it's just that...!" He couldn't even finish his apology before once again letting the waterworks flow. A pat on his shoulder did help with the sobbing some, as the drunk man turned to see the innkeeper, lending him her hand. Such a nice person... How could she be deceiving?
Still rocking about on his seat, Sakaba sniffed some as he tried wiping his tears away. "Mai... Thank you..." He thanked, leaning at her as he rocked; even going as far as to wrap an arm around her for a supporting hug. "And, I'm sorry..."
