About
Profession: Innkeeper
Alliance: Neutral
Hometown: A village near Fort Jinya
Likes: Exotic creatures, barbecue, her inn, crows, adventurer’s stories, her foster parents
Dislikes: Discrimination between patrons, dogs, lecherous men
Personality: A strange and genteel woman, the madonna of the Raven’s Rest Inn is one of the few more interesting women in the drab outer villages of Hoshido. She carries herself modestly among her patrons, carrying a curious, dark-colored book around within her kimono’s obi. She is feisty when riled, and won’t take lip from someone who throws themselves around. Words are her weapons, be it for chants for physical attacks, or plain old psychological warfare, she’s in it to win it.
Mai's personality has changed due to influences of dark magic. She is more aggressive with people who disagree with her, but she is detrimentally short-sighted.
Biography: “Nnn? You would like to know about little ol’ Mai? Kufufu, well, where do I start…
The very beginning, yes! That’s a good place. I don’t remember very much, actually! The townsfolk say they found me in a basket along with this little tome of mine. My foster parents took me in with open arms, as they were barren and unable to raise their own child. They taught me everything there is to know about being an innkeeper, as well as being able to cook! I’m rather grateful for the skill.
My education came from the local schoolhouse. I was an excellent student—the beautiful protege of my class. I was almost always surrounded by my classmates, but I paid little mind to them… after all, I wished nothing more than to learn and learn some more. I had my belittlers, yet their words were like rain upon the walls of the capital. Fufun, you may think I see myself highly, but not so, dear patron. I am just like you—human, and with faults.
So, where was I… ah, yes! After I had graduated from school, I went back to innkeeping to help my parents. Matured as I became, my father decided that to give me a strange book. I inquired what the book was, and he told me that it was an ancient tome of dark magic. Apparently, this tome… this one here, was wrapped along with me. It is an old thing, and I took time to read into it. The symbols are strange, yet familiar to me, and I can read them easily. The magic within the tome is dangerous to people, but rest assured, dear patron, I wouldn’t ever think of using it! These may be trying times, but I am sure that the warriors of Hoshido can protect us!”
