It would be pretty sad if Akemi, being an Oni wasn't capable of holding her liquor as well as she did. The green haired woman had started drinking since an early age because she was a rebellious spirit like that. That being said she really preferred light beer over Sake but this wasn't the time to get picky.
' I had no idea he was such a lightweight. ' Akemi thought keeping that to herself. While amusing at first she was starting to pity her poor instructor and felt to blame for putting him in such a miserable mood.
" Now now, its fine, sir. " Unlike her inn keeper she really couldn't find the right words to make Sakaba feel better so instead she opted for standing up and patting him in the back while he hugged Mai in a rather uncomfortably tight embrace. " You've done everything possible to help us out survive. I' proud to have a mentor such as yourself. " She could try to make him drink some more but that could only end in disaster and if they made a mess she would have to be the one to clean it up.
For the sake of saving Mai the trouble of dealing with two over emotional drunk people Akemi decided to stop drinking right now.
Such kind people, these two were. Soon enough, Akemi joined in on supporting the instructor, which he could only appreciate further. He had great company tonight. Between a reunion, two beautiful waitresses and a benevolent innkeeper, Sakaba truly considered himself lucky then. Applying more of his weight on Mai as he swayed.
Today had been quite eventful. He hadn't experienced so much action in one day in too long, perhaps even in two whole years. Though understandably, simply because he was promoted to a rather mundane position. Softly sobbing, the drunk man let go of the innkeeper. "...I didn't...!" He shamefully admitted to his past student, hand slammed upon the table; toppling his glass and the extra bottle over. Another tear began to follow the trail marked by its previous. "I really, really didn't!" He repeated.
While his sober self would see contradiction in this amount of self-blame, he would still indulge in it. It was his responsibility to train them to the best of his ability, and that's it. That was his job. Yet, even that... "Even today! I let the others cover for me..." He slurred, reaching for his knocked glass. The leftover liquid that previously rested there now spilled all over the table, but Sakaba decided to reach with his lips anyway.
Drinking would make this go away, right? "I didn't...!"

Mai froze in place from the embrace and let out a flustered sigh. Another day, another drunk man's hug, with the public watching.
"Shishou..." the innkeeper grunted as he began to apply more of his weight on her, "... Shishou! Get a grip on yourself!" The instructor had released her and began spilling himself all over the table in his crapulous state of expression.
One thing at a time.
The innkeeper readjusted herself and tugged the seams of her dress. "Right... Kihara-san, would you mind sharing some of Ouyuu-san's troubles?" She squinted at the man, "He's obviously so inebriated to really understand a word I'm saying." If anything he could simply drift off into a stupor in the next moment. SakabaAkemi

" I-I have no idea! This is the first time I've seen him like this. Usually he's a hell of a lot more composed. " While it might have been true that Sakaba was her instructor this was the first time Akemi had even seen his drunkard antics and it wasn't impressive. It was clear that Mai wasn't particularly enjoying this tight embrace and she suspected her instructor might try to act like a pervert, putting his hands where he wasn't supposed to.
Akemi placed her hands between their bodies, attempting to free her inn keeper from that possessive, alcohol fueled hug, prying them apart a moment after. " He's has strong as ever. I don't know why you're getting all mopey on us, teach. "
In her brief life AKemi had seen only two type of drunks- passed out blind ones and overly aggressive ones; this was the first time she'd seen someone drink so much they got into a depression episode. " I think that's enough Sake for you, sir. if we let you have more you'll probably get sick. " it was easy to snatch the cup from his hands since on this state he lacked most of his dexterity and reflexes.
It was futile. His sober self would look back upon this day with great shame, and add it to his personal disappointments with himself. The cup was swiped away from his hands in no time, before the instructor even got the chance to bring his head closer. Caught off at that, he flinched in his place, the shock strong enough to knock the dropping tears away from his cheeks; and cause the chair itself to rock some-- forward, then backward. As Sakaba only happened to take a good lean to the back, and just like that, the chair fell to the floor. With the drunkard still seated.
"Ngh!..." Pathetic... He couldn't even keep proper face in-front of these pretty ladies. He must have been causing them some trouble by now... The feel from being knocked over only hit him a moment after he had, and the pain in the back of his head caused him to wince. The drunk sloppily rolled off on one side, then onto his stomach. For someone this drunk, it was a miracle he had yet to throw up his liver. Now laying on the inn's floor, he wept some more to himself.
"I-I'm s-sorry..." The floor felt strangely comfortable. Shamefully enough. AkemiMai

What a miserable man he was. How utterly pitiable and almost contemptible! Patrons traded looks of concern and disgust at the fallen instructor.
"Such a waste." "Even as handsome as he is, he is a failure after all." "It really is too bad."
All the talk was uncalled for and unnecessary! A blood vein revealed itself on Mai's forehead, along with all the stress of the last few weeks appearing as a darkening look on her formerly cheery visage. She's had enough of this pitying!
"Silence!" she hissed. Instantly, the patrons tightened their lips in jerk reaction. "Let the man be. Kihara-san, help me bring him to one of the open rooms. He needs rest for his sake." She proceeded to pry the sorry fool out of his seat. Akemi

" Yes, ma'am. " The deeply rooted respect Akemi held for her mentor kept her from allowing this sad display to go on. With a firm scowl she turned to face the few people that remained seated nearby.
" You guys didn't see anything here tonight. " Now that she'd give them this ' advise' she could carry on the excruciating task of getting Sakaba off the floor. In a way she didn't want to do it since he seemed to be rather fond of staying in a surface in which he wouldn't sway and tumble.
" As soon as you close your eyes this will be all over, coach."If they where lucky then Sakaba would have a limited recollection of this event. Her handling off her fallen mentor showed a good degree of care and efficiency, even if sometimes it seemed she could tumble over. Instead of carrying him on her back she grabbed him by his dominant hand to prop the man back on his feet. As soon as he was more or less ' standing' she would let him fall on her arms. He wasn't exactly light but even in this inebriated state she could carry him to a room.
Thoroughly managing to ignore the passing remarks, Sakaba fully focused on his own depression, and the awfully comfortable floor. Eyes still teary, the drunk instructor could see how the scene to his front seemed to blur. Spin some, through the unclear vibe it took through his watered eyes. He failed to comprehend anything said not directly to him, too hung on his own 'business' by this point.
He could feel himself being lifted off the floor. A short observation told him soon enough, once he saw the green hair fluttered in his face, that this was Akemi. "I've... I've really, caused you trouble this, this time... Akemi..." He silently let out, almost in a whisper, as he was led through the inn and to the rooms in the back. From here, he could see where this was going, and while opposed to it, saw himself in no position to fight back. He was completely in his student's mercy by this point.
Through some further self-pity and weeping, Sakaba was led to a bed at last. He managed to somehow walk with Akemi's help, stumbling here and there and poorly keeping his balance swayed on and away from her. Sakaba would wake the next morning to see himself lucky not to have had the need to throw up, mysteriously. Anyone who had drank as much as he did, save a few, would surely experience a bad night. "I'm really sorry for causing so much trouble..." Though as he was laid down, his parting, silent words were given. "You wanted to tell me, something, today... Right? Then, I swear to listen... As soon as I can." A hint of responsibility in the drunk mess he was, as if sobered up for a moment. However, with just that much said, Sakaba flopped like a dead fish on the mattress, and drifted off into immediate sleep. AkemiMai

Mai brushed down her dress as the man drifted off to sleep, "What a mess he is." She looked to Akemi and shook her head, then ushered herself and Akemi back out into the hallway and let out a quiet sigh, "You should get some sleep, too. Rest up as much as possible. I want you ready for tomorrow evening's travel to our old home."
Shortly after speaking, she retreated back to her counter, and when the time came, she bid her guests good night and closed the tavern for the evening.
The next day came with little ceremony. Her other comrades were also taking care of other preparations, thus it was a busy day for them all. There were breakfast specials, but that was being prepared autonomously by the chef and the morning shift tavern waitresses. By special request of the innkeeper, they also made surplus for their trip.
During this time, Mai sat once more behind the counter of her inn. She watched through the open doors as the bottom halves of Kitsuki citizens made their rounds across the sleepy market, with the occasional rush-by of a group of small children.
Kitsuki certainly had a different feel than the village back in Fort Jinya. There was a fresh and carefree atmosphere here because of the presence of the samurai... not that they were the final defense against anything, but the fact that they existed was nothing but comforting.
Even with the instructor who slept in one of the rooms for free... even if he had a fall from his glory days, old spears still have edges. Sakaba

" Trouble? Not in the slightest! I'm really glad we where able to talk and have a good time together. " The least Akemi could do at this point was reassure her mentor she hadn't taken an offense after that little show that had transpired. If Sakaba wanted to apologize to someone that person would most certainly be Mai of all people.
" We can talk tomorrow over breakfast. " Sober or not she knew perfectly fine he wouldn't pass the opportunity to get some sleep as soon as he laid on that bed. The poor man was very clearly tired and stressed so this rest was well deserved even if he was being mopey about it. As soon as he began snoring Akemi walked out, closing the door behind them.
Her prediction was more or less accurate judging by Mai's rather cold reaction. She certainly wasn't patient when dealing with drunks and how could Akemi possibly fault her for thinking like that? " Yeah, poor teach really let himself go back then and there. He must have been really tired and stressed to get all depressive like that. " With how late it was the green haired Oni really took up Mai's advise, heading over to her room after wishing the older woman a good night.
-----
The following morning ...
Akemi was quite the early bird. The girl had woken up and after taking care of her needs and getting cleaned up she went to the kitchen to prepare some breakfast for her mentor who was most likely still in that room where he'd been left off. It was a fairly basic meal but rich in protein. Hopefully he would eat it and the two would have a the opportunity to exchange more words.
" Good morning, Watanabe-San. I'm going to take this to our friend. With any luck he'll be sobered up by now. " She told the inn keeper standing behind the reception desk as she carried the steamy tray of food to the room where Sakaba laid dormant for the time being.
He hissed. What greeted him the next morning was not the mornkng sun or the alarming sounds of a well-trained bird. It was pain. A strong, stinging sensation at the back of his head, pulsing as the instrictor straightened himself, running a hand slowly over the area. Not only did he find a nice new lump that made him wince further as his fingers traced it, but he also learned how his hair remained tied up since yesterday. That won't do, the string would tire itself out... It also wasn't so healthy for his own hair. Still in the midst of collecting his thoughts together, Sakaba wondered how did he manage to sleep so soundly but messily, not feeling his ponytail getting in the way.
Not a second was wasted on recollecting last night's events. Because the now-sober man did, unfortunately, remember most of it. How he began drowning himself in pity and depression, and even... Acted improperly with the pretty innkeeper. An awkward face. His nose scrunched some as Sakaba tugged at the string still holding his hair up, shaking his head some to let it breathe. I'll have to apologize.. Again...
Dizziness soon came over to throw the instructor off his feet. The effects of the alcohol last night still lingered somewhat? Or perhaps it was just his body still reacting to those. He could hear some slight bustling outside his room's door, like people were waking as well. For now, he needed to hurry and pay his part, apologize to his assorted party, and hurry back to base. The other instructors really could cover for him for so long.
But before everything else... "O Great Uzume." Prayer. Opening the window in his room, Sakaba got down in his knees in-front of it. Closing his eyes, he pleaded to his God with whispered prayer. MaiAkemi
Akemi knocked at the door repeatedly with one hand, not wanting to disturb Sakaba's morning activities by being overly loud. " Its me, sir. I've brought you some breakfast. " Sure, she could have simply slide the door but didn't want to interrupt him in the middle of something. The girl stood attentively, awaiting until he allowed her to come inside so she could set the tray containing a few onigiris, sunny side up fried eggs and a healthy serving of natto.
She was wearing a different Yukata this morning- a indigo colored one with a white obi tied up behind her. Her hair was neatly tied up behind her back in a bun. " Are you feeling better now? " She finally said, once he was finished with his morning prayer.
" You had me worried there for a moment last night. " Shortly after falling asleep Akemi could have sworn the whole world was spinning. Having more than a dozen of cups of warm sake did that to pretty much anyone. This time all shed brought for him to drink was a cup full of fresh water.
He did hear her knocking on his door, and her voice (if faintly) following. Though, he couldn't allow her entrance in the middle of his prayer, unfortunately; as such, Sakaba did the courtesy to finish his reciting a little faster than usual, if only to attend to his past student sooner. Though that on itself, took some time too. But even if he usually would have chastised himself for keeping her waiting for those two minutes behind the closed door, this, he saw as first priority. His offering to his Deity came first, and as such he could spare that moment.
"...Yes. I'm awake." He confessed through the door, standing up and closing the window. "Sorry to keep you waiting, Akemi. You can come in now." Though he did think; if he had been still asleep, would she have waited outside for a moment more, or took the initiative to come in?
Taking an eyeful of the girl's new wear, the instructor offered a warm, but awkward smile at her entrance. "Yes... I, would assume so." He admitted, looking away as he took the tray from her hands. Shortly looking at the assortment he was granted. "Did you make this yourself? It looks great." The instructor complimented, slowly taking his glass of water. He winced some, the effects of last night still lingering in his head.
"--You wanted to tell me something yesterday, no?"
There was no need for her to interrupt his morning prayer so she stood by the door, awaiting patiently. Sakaba was their guest so she was just making sure to look after him and make the stay all the more pleasant. No doubt he was getting ready to get back to his daily instructing activities.
" Of course. Not even I can screw something simple like this. " While not exactly aa master in the culinary arts Akemi's cooking was passable. She stared back at him perplexed for a moment when he inquired about their conversation the night prior. Truth to be told Akemi had completely lost her train of thought at the time. She was hoping for a chance to get stupid drunk and let loose but her instructor had beaten her to it so she had to be more restrained what with Mai being around.
" I'm just really grateful I had the chance to get out of that hole alive. " The idea of being handed over to some Nohrian scumbag as a concubine made her blood boil but that had been adverted by her own devise. Soon enough she would be getting back at their enemies for even considering such an atrocious act.
