Clayton watched the creature fall. He shook his head at the torn faceless. "Beasts. Only monsters use beasts." He patted Akemi on the shoulder. "Good job."
He approached Mai, kicking the soldier she left alive and claiming his weapon. "We don't need to question him. I know where the dungeons are."
"You're here for Blue?" The injured soldier asked. "He's not there."
The lumbering giant glanced to Mai, giving her a deep nod before lifting the man off the ground. "Where is he?"
"In the stocks." The man said. "He's going to be there until the executioner gets here. Let it sink in."
"Where!" Clayton shouted.
"Center courtyard." The soldier scoffed. "With a lot more guards than you guys. Face it. He's dead."

Mai's face contorted suddenly as her eyes began to glow with a bright crimson color.
"... Kisama..." she murmured with her brow furrowing sharply. Her hand suddenly wrapped around the soldier's neck as she gripped him tightly, "... I have not come all this way to bury a comrade!" One of her locks of hair began to change a shade of color as her intensity rose.
Suddenly, the soldier's body began to convulse as he let out a shrill scream. Black tendrils erupted from Mai's hand and pierced into his skull, causing his body to shrivel until he was a pile of ashes.
"Clayton!" Mai exclaimed as she made for the exit, "Do you know where they would keep gunpowder? I'll need it for later!" AkemiEthan

" Doesn't seem like anyone is coming to investigate." Seeing that no one was showing up was a bit of a relief. There was always the chance that the soldier was bluffing but once he'd given his verdict Mai rather quickly dispatched him. Under normal circumstances Akemi would have advised hiding the bodies but they didn't have the time for that.
" If you are going to blow this place up make sure we don't get caught in the blast. I don't mind being the decoy but you guys better be quick." Now that their business on the bath house where wrapped up it was time to move up, Akemi maneuvered across the halls, keeping herself relatively out of sight, lowering her axe in order to not make it stick out too much.
"We're not blowing this place." Clayton snapped. "I lived here. My brothers and sisters died here. That isn't going to be for nothing. We save your friend, and we do it without destroying this place." He moved to the hidden stairwell, pulling it open. He continued his rant while dragging the bodies. "You aren't taking this place from me. And before we go we need to think of what the hell we're doing."
He shut the hidden stairs, then glanced to his allies. "Two stories. The courtyard is spacious. It was where we trained the recruits so there are observation decks all over the place, not to mention you can see the center from all sides. You want to blow something up? It can't be walls, rooms, or anything that belongs to the fort."
As he followed them, Clayton didn't focus on stealth. He was hoping for a fight. Every twisting hall came with hellish memories. Phantoms battled in his mind. Shadows died behind him. Ghosts begged for mercy. They came to a corner and the lumbering soldier stopped behind the verdant leader. "Any place specific you want to head, or are you planning on heading just for the courtyard?"

"I'm not blowing this place up," Mai grimaced with a fold of her arms, she shook her head and let out a flustered sigh, "I know for a fact that no loud noise goes off without special attention. If anything, it might buy us a few seconds of confusion." She patted her pouch on her waist, "I'll use Wind magic to toss a bunch of powder kegs into the air, then I'll use Fire magic to set them off. At that time, you two try to free Ethan while I start my one-woman onslaught from the fort rooftop." She wound her arm with a dark look on her face, "It's worth it to buy you guys some time. You'll know what to do with anyone who comes in your way, ne?"
She peered into the hallway and let out a sigh, "I'll take the roof after I found the kegs. Considering that most of the soldiers are in the courtyard, the halls should be fairly clear." AkemiEthan

" Let me give you a hand." From the looks of it most of the guards where outside, lining up to witness the execution. Nohrians sure where a morbid rabble eager to see a man get killed and Akemi would love to disappoint their expectations. While everyone else awaited the arrival of the executioner she hauled barrels full of gunpowder from the powder magazine to the roof where Mai would set up her fire work display.
In a matter of minutes she'd brought at least half a dozen kegs with some help, of course. They had to make more than one trip but this was a suitable amount of barrels which would be used to make for a rather convincing diversion effort.
" I'll go get in position below." She knew Clayton didn't care much about being sneaky but they couldn't exactly jump down from this height and expect to survive. While Mai got set up she went back inside, using the ladders to go down.
There was a certain level of discomfort with the idea. Manipulating the elements could ruin everything, but these two had proven capable women. He would trust them. The bearded alcoholic watched Akemi head for the latter, still sweating from helping them carry the barrels up.
He turned back to Mai. "You know lass, you could be overrun. You realize that?" He glanced to the latter. "There's a chance you won't come down from here and I thought it would be me that wouldn't walk from this place." The man sighed. "He mean that much to you?"
He followed Akemi down, eager to finish the fight. He had this demented feeling that Mai wasn't coming back. She was just going to be another life claimed by Nohr, another life claimed by the fort. "She trading her life for his." Clayton muttered as he stood behind Akemi.

In very little time, the powder kegs were in place.
Good.
Mai's head turned toward Clayton as he spoke. Weeks of worry and sleeplessness produced dark circles beneath her eyes, not to mention the state of her thin, trembling body. In spite of her condition, her eyes betrayed no fear.
"I could care less if the odds are against me," she said with a smile, "I hate breaking my promises." She shook her hands out, "Wait for the fireworks to start, then make your move."
As the two disappeared down the ladder, Mai looked once more and surveyed the central fort. Groups of soldiers stood in rough rows with their weapons at their sides, all facing the northern direction to a raised platform. Her eyes squinted as she attempted to seek out her Ice Tribe comrade...
There he was... bruised and battered, barely recognizable except for the bloodied, ice-blue hair on his head.
At the sight of him, a surge uncontrollable rage coursed through Mai's body. Without even consulting with herself, she seized one of the powder kegs in her hands, heaved it over her head, and tossed it into one of the crowds. As it drew near to the heads of the soldiers, a harsh beam of thunder struck it, causing it to burst upon those within its vicinity.
After the first, she took her Wind tome and used it to throw aloft more of the kegs into the central square before setting them ablaze with her thunder.
When all the powder kegs were gone, Mai let out a loud, demented guffaw. AkemiEthan
" Like hell she is! As soon as we get Ethan i'm coming back to get her out no matter what." This was probably the first and only time Akemi displayed her true emotions while out on this adventure. The girl could care less about this crummy fort but she wasn't going to let her senior of all people become another prisoner within these same walls.
In a hurry she went down the staircase, getting her axe at the ready as soon as they made it to the floor level. Just as Akemi maneuvered towards the courtyard she saw one of the barrels drop between a group of soldiers, scattering black powder all around, followed by a Thunder which ignited the explosive component.
That was their signal to advance. In the wake of the explosion the green haired Oni leaped out of her concealed position making a run towards the battered tied up prisoner. Those Nohrians had certainly put him trough his paces it seemed.
Sweaty, blue strands streaked down Ethan's battered face. His neck sat stiff in the splintery stock. His hands, close by. He had been in this position for two full days. The scent of piss and and sweat had all but faded.
"You've seen better days." Campbell's taunting voice breezed from behind. Ethan didn't respond and the treacherous man kept on. "I'd say you look worse than your sister when she drug herself back to the tribe." Still no response. "God, do you remember that day? We had just got done fishing and had the biggest catch ever. And you just dropped it when they said Sera was back and in a mess. What do you think she'll say when she hears you aren't coming back?"
"Are you enjoying this?" Ethan said.
Campbell knelt in front of his captive. "It's not about enjoyment Ethan."
"Then what?"
The man sighed. "At first it was just about bringing honor back to our tribe. Hell Ethan, you've spent months with these Hoshidan losers. You should have learned about that. Then you had to kill someone at that inn. You know what it's like to meet the king? Tell him you failed? It's fucking scary Ethan. That man is a beast. Then there was the ridicule. Countless soldiers saying that we couldn't beat a deserter. I COULDN'T STAND IT!" He calmed himself. "You've made my life a living hell Ethan. You have a debt to pay. Both to Nohr and myself. Let me ask you something. Was it worth it?"
Ethan stood quiet.
"Killing soldiers that were just doing a duty." He taunted. "Staying out in the cold?"
"Better than killing innocent villagers." Ethan said. "And you'd be surprised with what I've learned while out there."
"Like what Ethan?"
"What it means to be alive. What friendship is. So no. I don't don't regret it. I don't regret one minute of it."
"Yeah. Friendship. Look around Ethan. Your friends aren't coming."
The sky exploded. Campbell dropped to the ground as Ethan winced.

"They're already here." The wanderer said.
Campbell launched up, rushing for the interior as he gave orders. "Don't let anyone take him. Kill anyone that shows up!"

"Ha... ha..." Mai breathed heavily as she leaned against the edge of the fort, "Lost it for a second there..." She looked up to see the soldiers dispersing this way and that in panic, leaving only a few on the ground for Clayton and Akemi to face.
Now, all there was left was to give Ethan the sword...
... Oops.
The sword was still strapped to her side.
"... Kuso!" she spat as she ran toward the ladder. She slid down and pressed against the wall to check to see if the coast was clear.
Then she saw him. That kisama, Campbell. His back was turned to her as he ran down the hall, no doubt in a hurry to arm himself. If she could just reach her tome and strike his head...
No, he was Ethan 's prey. It would only be right if he was the one who ended him.
Instead, Mai ran out to join her comrades on the battlefield.
"Watashiwa baka desu!!!" she cried as she ran alongside them, "I forgot something important, but let's clear these guys up!" Mai enters Offensive Support with Akemi!
"C'mon, then!" the witch roared as she pulled out her Elthunder Tome, "I'll send you all to the afterlife!"

Ethan watched as Mai broke from wooden doors and threw about her damning magic. He waited patiently, with a pit in his stomach. This was reckless. She wasn't supposed to be here and neither was the towering stranger beside her. The man seemed a destructive force all of his own and his sword arm came swift.

By the time Akemi realized it Mai had shown up from behind them. There where only a handful of soldiers between them and Ethan so she would be hard pressed to reducing their numbers as quickly as possible.

"Get out of my way!" roared Mai as she sent a powerful gust of wind at the soldier. It tossed him high into the air, sending him head first into a wall.
With the soldier incapacitated, she rushed forth and climbed up the raised platform to Ethan 's side. She pulled the metal level from the pillory, then threw the top half off of his neck and arms.
"Kept you waiting, huh?" she grunted as she pulled him up and off of the stocks. The sword's handle was placed in his hand, "Sorry it took so long, my friend... I hope you can still fight." 1-100
Mai dashed to his side, hastily working at his wooden binding. "You shouldn't have come for me." Ethan said as she lifted it. "You could get yourself killed." Warm iron found his palm. His fist closed around it. His knuckles lost their color. "You could be anywhere else right now, a million miles away and safe."
Clayton's blade clanged against a new soldier. This man seemed more experienced when compared to normal Nohrians. The giant held his own against two soldiers, while the boarder guard assisted him. There was slight surprise to Ethan. He wrote her off as dead days ago, but here she was. Another person put in danger because of him.
"I was a stranger." Ethan whispered. "Done with. My burning hatred for Nohr gone. Dead Mai. I thought I was dead. Yet here you are, saving the embers." He scoffed. "I was a stranger that night."
Clayton reached out, pulling the soldier that charged for Ethan. "Boy, fight!"
Ethan nodded, before looking to Mai. "You took me in."
The wanderer charged forward. His steps came shaky. Their muscles, too used to nothing. He swung the sword with fury burning brighter than it had ever dared. This was his vengeance for the life they stole from him. He planned on taking much worse.
