The crescent moon hung high. Its hollow light spread uncertain shadows across the captured fort. Guard duty was light and those patrolling paid little attention to night beyond the walls. Instead, they mourned over the celebration they were missing. Nohr had taken countless steps towards victory. Leigh was apprehended and army had mobilized. The war was off to a perfect start and the traitor's head would solidify that.
Deep within the fort's protective walls and hidden behind rusting bars, was Ethan Leigh. The wanderer had all but given up. The world beyond stuffy halls was filled with taunting laughter. And occasionally, a drunken soldier waltzed right up to his cell. Their insulting, slurred words meant nothing to numb ears. Hope dwindled with each day. Now, there was nothing left to fade.
Campbell earned his vengeance. Nohr would have its bloody example. And the Ice Tribe would have their disgraceful child. Everyone won and Ethan's prize was a shallow grave, with a headless afterlife. His bitter rage had subsided. Whatever would come, would come.
An unknown collection of saviors sat behind the battered fort. Clayton sat at the head of their circle, a hastily drawn map laid out in front of him. He traced through uneven halls with one meaty finger.
“Remember, left split is a dead end. You don't want that. Dungeon is above the tunnel. Now it shouldn't be guarded. If it is, don't hesitate. Slaughter those Nohrian dastards. Remember, Ethan's high priority. His key wont be with the others. I have no idea where they will be, but keep silent.”
Clayton pointed to the escape tunnel's entrance. “Any questions or last minute ideas?”

Finally. The long awaited moment drew nigh. There was a clear tenseness in the air, yet Mai figured she was the only one feeling it. She knew Clayton and Akemi had already tasted the silent anticipation of an operation.
The Hoshidan defense ended in failure, and that weighed heavily on Mai's mind. What was she even doing there? What was she even doing here? She must be madder than a haddock to even attempt this kind of thing... but she knew why. Friends don't deserve to be tortured and put to death. Not on her watch, anyway.
What's more, Campbell had already torched her inn, so it was about time she got payback for that.
Instead of wearing her regular yukata, Mai was dressed in a faded violet Nohrian dress with her long hair tied and braided. Her tomes sat in a pouch that slung across her chest and rested on her hip, and a powder keg was attached to a belt on her rear end.
It was safe to say that she looked distinctly Nohrian in her outfit.
"I've got no questions," spoke Mai boldly with a fold of her trembling arms, "I'm ready to bust my friend out." She turned her head to Akemi, "Are you ready?"

After that botched up last raid Akemi had been spending time honing her technique in preparation for the next one. Her outfit now consisted of a black version of the Hoshidan army uniform which would make it easier to blend in with the dark, however the moon was particularly bright this evening which would make their infiltration slightly trickier.
Carefully, her cold blue eyes examined the map layout finding it to be rather accurate. So far their plan seemed rather simple. The oni kept her axe at the ready along with a hammer in case she ran into that stubborn Knightess.
" I only have a question: Do we have a plan B in case our escape route is cut off? I cant help but wonder if it would have been a good idea to bring a Pegasi for a quick extraction of our hostage." Getting to the dungeon couldn't be easy but once everyone on te fort where aware of their intrusion the entire garrison would be up on them and the numbers where against them.
Clayton swept a hand across his mouth, glancing towards the full sky. "Yeah. We have two of them. You'll notice that Raziel isn't here. I have the dragon waiting opposite side of the Fort. He has a carriage. Things go bad, we climb over the edge and exfil into the forest. We'll have to camp out, but it's better than being skinned alive by those monsters. Second plan, and the riskier one, is that we break into their pen and steal one of their bird horses. I've never flown one myself, but I figured that you can at least get the three of you out of here."
"Now here." Clayton pulled a sheathed sword and offered it to Mai. "You're most likely to hang back. So take this and give it to the guy when you find him. We don't need no dead weight. Me and Akemi here will take lead."
He glanced to the passage. "This is our chance girls. Our chance to strike back at every dastard that ever ruined our lives. No mercy. Alright? Remember what they took from us."

As the sword was handed to her, a chill ran down Mai's spine.
They were going to actually do this. There was no turning back now!
She looked down to the sword and pulled it gently out of the scabbard to preview the blade. A sharp glint of light danced on her face from the polished blade before she closed it once again.
"Remember what they took from us."
A deep sigh escaped Mai's mouth as she cracked her knuckles, "Ohhh, yes... and if we ever come across that kisama, Campbell, I'm going to make sure he doesn't forget this night... not even in the afterlife!"
" That's reassuring to know." This information gave Akemi much needed peace of mind. Once things where set in motion it was important to have a back up plan to fall back on. Not surprisingly she would be with the vanguard, leading the way into the dungeon. Since Clayton would most likely be the one carrying Ethan with them it fell on Akemi the responsibility to keep their path clear.
The Oni turned to face Mai as she examined the blade sharpness. " You be careful out there." At times like these Akemi preferred to keep her feelings under wraps. She had to go in there with a cool head in order to focus with the task at hand. In order to travel light Akemi hid the hammer somewhere close by. If they ran into armored opponents it was better to avoid a straight up confrontation or they would be running out of precious time.
" Let's go." Akemi strapped the Axe she was going to carry into battle to her back, wanting to have both hands free in order to sort any obstacle on their way more easily, at least until it was time to get violent. The girl began following Clayton in, keeping an eye out on their surroundings as they advanced in silence.
Clayton shared a look of intense desperation with innkeeper. He found resolve in her words and a deeper strength than any bottle provided. The lumbering giant moved for the fort, feeling along its aging walls until he found the loose stone. Pulling it free, Clayton reached in and removed the rod binding the hidden gate. Rust wined out, threatening to give them away as he pulled the false wall open.
"Go." He said, motioning into the inky tunnel. "Be quick."
After the women dashed in, the ex-soldier stepped in and closed them gate behind them. Blind hands reached along the edge of the wall until they found forgotten candles. Matches later, a brief flame revealed the musky stone hall. He drew a short sword and let its silver edge guide him into the labyrinth. When the hall split, he ushered his troop to the right. They stopped at the feet of stairs.
"This leads to an old bath house. No telling who will be there, but I highly doubt they're armed."

The scent of mold and mildew was heavy, but that was little surprise considering Hoshido's humid weather. Mai sometimes wondered how these Nohrians managed to adapt from their much colder country... regular sauna visits, maybe?
"Whether or not there are," spoke the woman with a furrowed brow, "They should know better than to take respite on the front lines." She took a darker-toned tome from her pouch and gripped it tightly, "I don't want a single one of these incompetent fools telling their top brass of our presence. I saw we kill them on first sight as quickly and soundlessly as possible."
That said, Mai peeked around the corner of the doorway to the bath house.
A Faceless stood inside of balmy, steaming water with a lance soldier and a dark mage standing by.
"So..." the soldier scratched the back of his head, "... You're giving him a bath or something?"
"Idiot," the dark mage snorted, "He just wandered in here by himself."

Akemi followed Clayton close by, taking the lead when he gave the all clear to get into the tunnel system. She breathed in and out constantly trying to keep a constant flow of air into her brain as they ventured into the underground passage way, her steps as quiet as she could afford to be with all the gear she was carrying around.
She was taken by surprised by Mai's remarks. Her senior seemed to be out for blood and was not in the mood to leave anyone alive on their wake. As much as Akemi despised the Nohrians slaughtering unharmed soldiers was something that would without a doubt leave a bad taste in her mouth.
Luckily for her there seemed to be a Faceless creature close by she could murder in cold blood without an hint of remorse. Killing humans was a messy affair that often filled her with remorse but these creatures where fair game.
From the looks of it there was no way around these individuals so Akemi leaped forward now brandishing her axe. She rushed the Faceless with the intention of putting it down as quickly as possible while the others dealt with the rest.

Clayton watched as Akemi rushed into combat. She was fearless and the ex-guard reveled in it. Spotting the mage, sent him dashing. His silver sword left its sheath with eager breeze. The mage was readying his spell when Clayton's blade slid across the worthless man.

With a sullen glare, Mai proceeded with her comrades to combat the threat before them. Taking her Flux Tome, she targeted the soldier, who still stood in place with a shocked visage.
leuy9pvY1-100 (ACC 70; DMG 20)
"Stop staring like a fool," spoke Mai with a cold tone as a ball of darkness manifested and plunged itself into the soldier's torso. With a deep gurgling noise erupting from his throat, the soldier staggered backward and shakily felt for his chest.
Soldier's HP: 10/20
"My... my insides...!" he coughed as he brandished his lance, "You'll... you'll regret this...!"
1-100 (ACC 91; DMG 11)
The soldier ran forth and attempted to stab the woman in her belly. However, now that he was a bit closer, something startled him.
"You... you're a witch!" he said with a gasp, "We're taking this one with us!"
That said, he whipped his lance around and slammed her waist with the broad side.
This bathhouse was now the scene of a violent struggle. These thick walls would certainly muffle the sounds of battle but there was no telling when they would be interrupted by more of the Fort new inhabitants. Whatever happened next they would have to make certain it ended quickly.
After narrowly dodging that attack Akemi went for a horizontal swipe aimed meticulously underneath the Faceless extended arm. With some luck she could attempt to sever the entire lib off after a few precise blows.
YtRGPS7t1d100 ( ACC 83; DMG 9 )
Direct hit. Faceless takes 9 DMG. Faceless HP 5/18.
The Creature let out an ear shattering screech after being cut just underneath the arm pit with that Axe which immediately caused it to bleed its nauseating black blood.
It wasn't entirely down for the count yet as evident on its attempt at striking back with its other arm. Human or not these creatures still felt pain after taking such a grave injury.
1d100 ( ACC 79 ; DMG 5)
Akemi's HP 14/19 After committing to that last strike there was no way Akemi cold have countered the next punch. She was hit straight on the face, Seeing stars for a brief instant as the strength behind the punch knocked her back a few feet. She maintained her footing, however.
"They trained me for people like you." Clayton said as he shrugged off the glancing fire. "They trained you for mages?" His opponents question came with doubt. "No. For Nohr scum."
The large man dodged another ball of flaming plasma, sliding beneath its intense heat, and rose up with a diagonal slice. He put full force, full fury, full hatred behind the blade.
Clayton's attack on dark mage, chance of 98: 9x9nQ0Dn1d100
Hit, dark mage is down.
Silver entered right below the man's rib cage and cleaved its way through the rest of his chest. His hand fell loose, bringing a bloody book with it. Clayton glanced to his allies. They seemed to be holding up just fine, but it was the enemies that earned his attention. One man fought with a pathetic weapon, a weapon that Clayton wanted. His silver sword left them with an easy death. He wanted the man's weapon. These people needed to suffer more.

Mai winced at the soldier's attack, but she kicked his chest plate to put some distance between them. She pulled out her Wind Tome, then prepared to strike.
hoHzaT0L1-100 (ACC 96; DMG 16)
With the tome outstretched, she caused a great gust of wind that blew the soldier into the air and smashed him against the wall, knocking the wind out of him.
Naturally, he was still alive, with hopes that he knew where Ethan was being held.
"Akemi ," Mai grunted, "At least be a little more subtle. Crush its windpipe so it would stop screaming."1-100
" You want me to do this quickly or silently? I cant exactly do both with this thing." A little bit of banter at a time like this was all Akemi needed to re-think her current strategy. Now that there was more room to maneuver it was easy for her to go for a wide overarching strike aimed to cleave its entire head in half.
GoosSrzV1d100 ( ACC 83; DMG 9 )
This attack was more successful at silencing the screeching beast as the sounds of battle around them ceased to be. Now that they held the control of the room she headed for the door with her back against the wall, preparing to ambush whoever attempted to come see what the ruckus was all about. 1d100
