Cold. Not quite liquid, yet so far removed from solid that every inch of your body felt wrong. Any hair that wasn't floating, clung to the back of your neck. Somehow, soppy, yet stiff. Opened eyes found oblivion in the form of endless lights. Their glow, without source. Time lost meaning. Its concept, almost laughable. There were long stretches of solitude, yet you could feel your allies beside you. Their presence, almost there.
Azure eternity births a quiet countryside. Hills roll behind you. They rumble into a sunset, tainted by a trail of thick smoke. Following its charcoal path, you see three buildings waiting in front of a wall. The wall stretches to your right for miles, curving out of sight in some tight angle. To your left, a wide river's restless rush.
Drawing closer, you realize that the three buildings make up an empty checkpoint. A road separates two buildings from one other. Two hold the left. One, the right.

Passing through the gates has never felt so wrong. No matter how many times one had gotten use to the feeling, the sense of misplacement always settled within the pit of the captain's stomach. A queasy expression fell upon him, as if he were mere seconds from hurling up his breakfast. But the stomach holds steady, taking his first few steps with the bronze sword drawn and ready. Soon enough, the three buildings came into sight, the words of the general gradually coming to mind as his gaze flickers from the two buildings, then back over to the one. Immediately, he turns to face the others, prepared to split the party with tasks that should ensure a safe, but quick search.
"Alright. We're going to be splitting up, with Lydia and Leliana scouting the right building. Fila and Serena shall check the furthest building while myself and Ursula shall check the first building on the left hand side. Shout if you engage in trouble, thoroughly search for any clues on Iago's whereabouts. Before we set out, ask your questions, but only one question per person. We must move swiftly, but cautiously."
The less words he spoke, the better. Yet, even for Kyverian's tastes, he'd need to speak more than usual if he wanted to keep everyone alive and just barely clinging to life. However, getting him to say more than he deemed necessary was going to be the true challenge for them, should they take the nigh-impossible challenge. For now, he proceeds onwards, taking point with his bronze sword as he heads over to the building. Fila / Serena (Far Left building)
Fila had no questions for Kyverian. This was not the first, or even second time she had worked with him. Search the buildings, keep everyone appraised, don't die. Nothing fancy, a job she had done oh so many times. The buildings were intact even, not burnt husks filled with melted skeletons. A nice change of pace, truth be told.
She did, however, resent him a little for putting her with Serena. It wasn't his fault, and she didn't let her aversion show on her face. IT was her own fault, really. She had done too good a job pretending. It wasn't that she disliked Serena; far from it, she was immensely relieved that the girl was still alive. However, her fellow Ice Tribe member also called up painful memories of the past, and even more painful questions about her own life choices. Questions she'd been more or less running away from for the last 5 years.
However, none of that mattered. Or, it did, but it was not allowed to be a hindrance. She was contracted for a job, and no matter what uncertainties in her life, she would complete her job to the best of her ability. She jerks her head towards the buildings they were assign,ed gesturing for Serena to follow her. In a low voice, she murmurs "C'mon, let's go. We might turn up something useful.

Every part of the trip felt wrong. Oblivion left little room for the seeker to get her bearings and when she finally exploded through the portal's shimmering blue, she landed on her knees. A spinning head pushed her to all fours. Her next breath felt like the first. Cold. For the first time, she understood what lowlanders felt. She coughed her lungs clean before using a bow to help herself up.
Her surroundings seemed clear, calmer than expected. The ashen sky felt familiar, but Serena knew these foreign worlds mocked her own. Her sleeved arm felt along the tips of her surprisingly dry hairline. She slid helpful wood over her shoulder as the appointed leader spoke. She said nothing in response. He was given the same information that Serena was. Her questions would go unspoken and unanswered.
"I'm on you." Serena said, slipping the metallic rod from the inside of her black vest. The revelation that it was dry wasn't as shocking, but why did she still feel wet? She kept the rod firm in hand, checking every shadow as she walked stalked behind her old friend. She had nothing to add.

The elf clutched tightly onto her staff. Splitting up as they were made her a little bit uneasy. It looked like they were balanced in groups of one offensive and one support, but Lydia had been the only one that was able to heal. If something were to happen to anyone else, she wouldn't be around to help them. "Sir Kyverian," she spoke up. She knew what the mission was and surely splitting up was the fastest way to get it done, but was it wise? "Are you sure we should split up? We don't know entirely what we are up against."
Hohoho. It seems like the portal traveling did everyone a number.
Myself included.
Ursula teetered back and forth as she exited the warp after the others, all the while trying hard to keep her composure even in the face of crippling nausea. When she was able to coherently react to orders, she proceeded behind Kyverian without question, except she had glanced behind herself to ensure that they were all accounted for.
Huh, the fox is missing. Did she get lost in the warp?
That would put someone at a terrible disadvantage if they split up now.

The Captain pauses his movements, turning around to face Lydia Chant upon being addressed. The idea of splitting up did seem like a bad idea. But when pressed for time, risks had to be taken. Sure enough he nods in her direction, both eyes closed as he begins to carefully lay out his thoughts to the healer. "We must make haste, thus, we are to split up and search the buildings. Once all avenues have been searched, we re-convene to continue our search for the scouts and or Iago." That was the general plan, his attention looking over to see where Leliana might have gone off to.
"Should you run into trouble, shout. If none of us are engaged with enemies, you'll be assisted immediately." His attention soon drifts away to the building he had intended to search, resuming his movement like new, provided there was nothing else that would ask for his attention to speak another question.
"Hold on." Serena said to Fila, before turning to their appointed leader. "You're going to send the healer to search a building by herself? You forget that we don't fully know what's out there? I mean yeah, we're in a hurry, but that doesn't mean we should be making stupid decisions. She screams, we might get there too late." Kyverian
The seeker turned to her elven acquaintance. "Lydia Chant, don't go alone. Come with us. You can keep watch from the door, see if Leliana makes it through." She glanced back to the guard. "Because if she comes through alone, she might head off alone. The last thing we need is for someone to get lost."
The seeker glanced off to her building, slowly turning towards Lydia's. "We can search her building after. Or you can, whoever gets done first."

Before he could go any further, another question had come up. The captain soon pauses to turn around to see who had asked. He glances over to Ursula momentarily before he replies to Serena and her question. "She's suppose to go with the Kitsune, not by herself. Though, should the worse already happen to the Kitsune, she shall head with you two. We will check the last building altogether, in that case." Soon enough, the lack of action and the constant delays does have him somewhat antsy to make the full use of their three days. There was a time limit set, they needed to make full use of every hour.
"No more questions, you have your contingencies, move out."
That would be the last question answered, at least, for now. Sure enough, Kyverian ensures the grip on his bronze sword is firm as he once again heads to the building closest to the road on the left path.
Leliana could only chuckle as she stepped through the portal. Humans, it seemed, were not as sturdy as she when it came to travelling through the gates, and she took note of it, for later. All the same, she had arrived a moment later than the rest, and had evidently missed some form of plan. She did know where she had to go, having caught the tail end of the conversation. She moved close to Lydia Chant , her blade whispering as it slid free from its sheath. "I will protect you. Should the worst happen, I will cover your escape, as you are a far more valuable asset than I."
She started moving towards the right building, ears twitching beneath her hood as she took stock of it, eyes narrowed as they darted from entry way to windows, to any other points of escape on the building. nvmore

Fila pauses, glancing at the bow Serena carried, before moving on. "Glad you have my back Serena." Her voice had to be warm for the sake of her friend. Her face, however, did not. Having Serena behind her was convenient; she didn't have to work to smile.
She dutifully pauses at Serena's request, raising an eyebrow as Serena questions Kyverian. True, the healer going off with only one other person was a bit risky... But they were all in the same general area, and the troubadour would likely be able to flee if the worst occurred. Fila reasoned that anything that could kill Lydia before Leliana could stop it would have even odds of doing the same if she went with her and Serena. Some means of concealment could fool any amount of watchful gazes.
"Don't worry Serena. I've worked with Kyv before, he knows what he's doing. Mostly." Be reassuring. It was important her friend feel like things would be okay. nvmore

The appearance of the kitsune ceased any conflict the others had going on. At least the portal had left her companion unaffected unlike the rest of the crew. It still made Lydia a little bit uneasy for the others to be sent away without any form of healing, but with a bit of luck, perhaps they would encounter a vulenary or two, or perhaps a place to rest up. "Please retreat if you are in danger, then call out to me." But there was nothing more to say. Lydia made a motion to the building she and Leliana were meant to go explore. "I will have your back Ms. Leliana."
The Seeker listened to their appointed leader. Most words came throught the tone of a commander, yet still. she found Nohrian methods in his final sentence. Her eyes narrowed to the back of the man's head as he turned. Her scowl stood noticeable to the rest of the group, fading as shhe listened to her old friend. The woman's voice killed any reponse.
"Maybe he does." Serena let the subject die with a short sigh and looked to Fila. "Let's go. The sooner this is done the better."
She turned her back as the portal stood disturbed. The kitsune arrived late, seemingly fine as she dropped into line. Serena said nothing, following her ally to their appointed building.

Lydia ChantLeliana Approaching the far right, you get a brief glimpse into the buildings resting to your left. One stands quiet, lonely in the shadows that own the world passed shattered windows. Their jagged glass clings to the fine length of wood streaking across the frame. The furthest building hosts a small flame. The orange glow paints a table with warm light. Your attention turns to your building. Its wide walls are swallowed by the long, pointed roof that flows along them. You move around the building, sticking close to the road to find no door. The western wall is gone, replaced with wooden gates. Hay rests behind them, marked by traces of blood. The rotting carcass of some eviscerated horse rests near center of the barn. Its putrid scent poisons each breath, toying at your stomach. Beyond death, you find hanging saddles and other equestrian equipment.
KyverianUrsula You step along sullied wood. It leads you passed some vacant frame's shattered glass. What's left, traces the frame as an unsteady heartbeat. Each rise, followed by an even steeper fall. Looking into the silent building yields little by failing sunlight. From your window vantage, you spot at least a dozen cots. Most, dominated by human figures. Their details, stolen by growing shadows. A quick glance reveals that no one is moving, but its hard to tell from here. You spot a counter against the northern wall. A variety of bottles litter it. The shelves behind it are mostly empty, save for hints of glass and metal.
Fila Splitting off from your leader and moving passed the closest, left building, you find an empty window. Looking passed it reveals a lone candle. Its spilling lame flickers along a table, calling attention to the map atop it. The building itself is rather small, nearly one room. You do spot a door beyond the table. It remains closed. Chairs litter the walls and at least one nightstand hosts a small amount of food.
“Good luck,” the witch said to the rest as they left them, “Hopefully we’ll all be alive by the end of all this...”
Having followed after Kyverian, they entered a building of wood and passed by an empty, shattered window frame. Ursula stepped on a shard, and upon its shatter her back arched upward in surprise.
“Curse it all,” she hissed under her breath, “What a mess.” She glanced out the window, and from afar she confirmed with her eyes the cots and humanoid shapes that sat within shadow. The sight caused her to pull back, pressing against the wall to peek over the side of the opening instead. “... Captain, do you see this?” she uttered quietly, “There seem to be humans over there... but I can’t tell for sure.”
