It used to be a quiet and beautiful evening. The full moon shed light over the entire mountain range both up and down the mountain. Yet if the fires in the distance weren't foreboding enough then the the shouting and occasional clash of metal in the distance surely was. Every Hoshidan that could still fight in the area was somewhere in the mountainous forest in front of her. Only a few of them remained here to tend the wounded from nearby villages and the surviving fighters that couldn't fight anymore. Every few minutes the sounds and signs of fighting came closer and closer. She went back inside as the head priest's parting words flew through her mind.
"You must help them Kasumi, we will try to hold them off, but try to help as many as you can." Were about the last words she heard from him. Then he went with the few fighters that were staying here the repel the Nohrian force. There was no doubt that their chances were low and she was nearly down to her last festal, so she couldn't really help many people anymore. She started to use her magic on a young girl that seemed to have a nasty scar just bellow her eyes. Just what kind of person would do such a thing. To other soldiers? She could understand that, but this little girl was barely 9 years old. Surely such violence against children was unnecessary? Maybe she should have taken a hint at how dangerous Nohr actually was.
"Sshh... It'll be alright." Kasumi said more to reasure herself than the girl she was trying to comfort. She probably already lost someone in this hopeless war. Kasumi didn't hear much more than rather silents sniffs from the girl, good enough considering the situation. None of the people here could run away, and Kasumi wouldn't leave them alone when the needed her the most.
The peaceful village was days behind her. Its night, no more than a reminder of distant peace. Serena Leigh had left the hamlet with new hope. Its endless fields and cheerful citizens showed her what she was fighting for, why life had been hell since she left the tribe. The supplies she took with her were long gone. Used to living off the land, the seeker had no trouble adapting and less weight helped her speed. She had been making great time towards the capital.
But the roads grew hostile. The fort's assault, and Ethan's halted execution, had increased the number of Nohrian troops in Hoshido. They marched from seemingly every direction and Serena had taken to the forests. They wouldn't find her there. A lifetime in the mountains would see to that. The seeker avoided towns, or any settled location, knowing they probably weren't looking for her. But, a cautious woman lived longer.
Thick, black clouds choked the sky above tall mountains. Something burned in its distant valley. The war had drawn closer. She could see it, specks mindlessly killing each other without detail. Her pace kicked, azure strands bobbing with her frantic pace. If reinforcements were coming, she wasn't going to wait for them.
The forest peeled back, giving way to thick brush. Beyond it, the uncertain grounds of jagged mountains. The lower hill was an easy climb. Her vantage at its crest revealed a new world to her, one inhabited by a reclusive monastery. The road stretching from it wound down the mountainside, leaving little chance of discovery. People rushing to battle didn't make pit stops along lonely roads. She figured it was the best place to let the battle tire itself.
Her trip down the hill and through its separating forests was uneventful. Finally, she broke the treeline. Approaching the monastery's large entrance, Serena corrected the quiver dangling against her lower back. Her hands stood free. She wanted to be sure the people here knew she wasn't a threat.
"Hello?" She called out, breaching the doorway. "Is there anybody here?"

As she finished mending the girl the wounds of the people in here were mended, at least for so far she could. She went to change the empty festal for the last one she in the building right now and wanted to check on the others if there wasn't anyone too wounded anymore. But suddenly she heard someone stepping inside and a voice calling out as Kasumi turned to the entrance herself. The only fire in the room burning in her back. There wasn't really anyplace to hide now that she was already inside, but if the newcomer had malicious intentions she probably wouldn't have come in with so much noise.
"Yes, yes. I'am here. Be careful where you step please." Kasumi said towards the stranger. So she wouldn't accidentally step on one of the wounded. She took a better look at the woman that just entered the shrine. She didn't think she had seen her around here before, that she arrived on this specific night was very suspicious. Yet since she didn't start shooting yet she was willing to give her the benefit of doubt for now. Thinking of what to do now. She couldn't make out much of the woman in the darkness, but it'd have to do for now.
"I don't wish to be rude, but if you're avoiding the war I'd go on ahead. Nohr's forces could be here any second now." She explained to the woman as calm as she could. Still she didn't manage to get all the tense out of it. Her parents were off to fight Nohr, since the fighting came closer and closer she took that as a bad sign. She only hoped they were alright out there somehow.
War always looked worse when it wasn't the enemy sprawled out in front of you. The seeker's attention kept low as she navigated her way around the injured. Bandages and magic wasn't going to be enough to help them if the battle made its way up the winding mountain. The hesitant, distraught woman in front of her seemed to believe it would. Serena hoped that it wouldn't, but her hopes hadn't really been paying off.
She knew part of the mainden's hesitance was Serena's nationality. She had the pale skin of Nohrian, only offshot by her vibrant hair. The hike had left her ragged, if not almost feral looking and there was no doubt that her outfit had seen better days.
"You need to move these people then." The Seeker said. "If Nohr's coming, you don't just want to wait for them. They don't care if you're injured. It makes their job easier for them, doesn't matter if this is a temple. I dout they'd even give it a second look."
The hills weren't calm. Their harsh brush and uneven grounds would make it near impossible to save every one of these people. Surrounded by ghosts, she turned back to the door.
