The woman's display of dark magic wasn't very appealing to him. His eyes narrowed with a clear unease at the action. This was a very dangerous route Mai was beginning to take. Magic was always dangerous from the start, but dark magic and summoning could easily backfire on its user. Raziel followed, already thinking about what Mai had to show them. He wouldn't be surprised if she had attempted to create a monster of her own after her previous speech.

The two of them had assembled behind Mai as she brought them to the shack. Her head turned briefly to ensure that there were no other prying eyes. When she saw that there was no other people outside to witness, she pressed her hand against the magical lock of the door, causing the door to open.
"Come inside."
It wasn't what one would expect--a small, empty room with tatami tiles on the floor. When the two were ushered inside and the door was closed behind them, Mai knelt down and caused two tiles before her to open. A staircase appeared and candles lit cobblestone walls leading down into the depths. They descended the long staircase, and the further they went, the colder the air became. Eventually, they stopped before a door of beautiful embellishment with no knob or lever.
"... This is it," she turned her head toward them with eyes full of unsettling excitement, "Allow me to show you the hidden fruits of my labor." She placed her hand upon the door, causing it to suddenly disappear.
Immediately, a large chandelier lit up in the middle of the net room, revealing a large space that was nothing short of a laboratory. Half the room had large tomes and tall book shelves lining the wall, while the other was a experimentation facility, with a single large table in its midst. On the surface of the table was a large cloth covering an irregular, human-shaped lump.
"Welcome to my laboratory!" spoke Mai with a confident, echoing voice, "You don't know how long I've waited to show you two this room!" EthanRaziel
Ethan was unimpressed with seemingly barren room. Gray eyes bounced between four walls in an effort to find what Mai had considered important enough to glance over her shoulder for. He held no surprise when the floor gave way to a hidden staircase. A single brow rose and flat lips stretched in confusion.
"You had enough time to make this?" He asked.
His sense of time was distorted further. The stock, the volume, the depth. It seemed ageless, yet Ethan knew he hadn't been locked away for an eternity. Her pockets must have sagged deeper than he expected, though he hadn't expected anything. It was the first time Ethan pondered Mai's funds. If she could construct this, he wondered what else she could make possible. Though, the fantasy faded fast. Funds weren't limitless. He had taken enough of her time, he didn't need gold.
"How long have you had a laboratory?" The wanderer scoffed. "You've come along way from being a simple innkeeper, unless you've always knew you'd become a super hero or villain." He picked up a beaker and thumbed over its glass surface.

It was absolutely fascinating that Mai had done all of this herself with whatever free time she was able to find between building up her new inn, locating Ethan, and building up allies for his rescue. It would be near impossible for an ordinary human or even beginning witch to pull of on their own, and yet somehow Mai had done it. The dragon paced through the room looking at the shelves of books. His finger's gently traced down their spines as he examined their titles. Some familiar while others were not. "Impressive," he said, though his face showed a bit of uncertainty to his normally stoic face. Raziel was naturally ecstatic over the technologies and capabilities that human's displayed but when magic came into the picture there was always a sense of unease. Dark magics made humans unpredictable.

"Fufun. While the long story would explain things better..." spoke Mai with a wide grin, "... the short answer is Satsuki-chan, my most trusted aide. She managed to put this together simply by my instructions via letter. She's ever so reliable!"
The woman drifted toward the laboratory side of the room and stood before the table, "I digress. The main reason why both of you are here is because of this: a being that would lend its strength and unsurpassed loyalty with every fiber of its being!" Her hands took hold of the cloth upon the table, then with a strong pull it slid off. Immediately, the scent of a strong chemical wafted through the air as what appeared to be a large male corpse lay strung across the table, bound by leather straps and metal. The monster awoke immediately, yet it was unable to move in its bindings. However, its murderous gaze wandered between the two visitors and let out a long, wrathful groan.
"He's a work in progress," smiled the witch with a matter-of-fact tone, "He's not used to other people just yet." RazielEthan
"A work in progress?" Ethan questioned. "Unsurpassed loyalty? Yeah. He's loyal until someone stronger comes along. Where did you even get this thing? Did you just seek out a body? Did you find a dead monster to tie down and practice on? What the hell are you thinking Mai? You set up some impossible underground laboratory and fill it with some creature's bod, without fulling understanding what's going on. What are you going to do if that thing gets loose and beats you down? You've put a monster out there. Or what if you take it against someone stronger? You lose it. This is wrong. This is dangerous."

Mai's body trembled at his words. Ethan was almost always right about things, but never had he been so passionate about her decisions as he was here. Everything she had done so far was to help them! Would this monster really be any different than a sword? If they could just wield it in the right way...!
However, faster than her mind can think, her emotions began to build in her chest as her anger began to manifest itself.
"You don't knowANYTHING!" Mai snarled violently with her crimson eyes glowing a sharp tint. The atmosphere in the room seemed to change instantaneously as the lights upon the chandelier flickered and shifted to a redder flame.
"Dangerous?! You think I wouldn't have thought this through?! I'm MORE than just a stupid little innkeeper, ETHAN! I'm a WITCH! I'VE THOUGHT OF EVERYTHING! What have you done so far without my help, huh?! YOU'VE DONE NOTHING! NOTHING! Do not doubt me anymore! I am SICK of hearing your doubt!!" Suddenly, her breathing became shallow and with her left hand she reached to clutch her chest. Her waist slammed against the table, unable to stand on both her legs. The lights on the chandelier returned to their orange flame, and the Entombed fell silent.
As she leaned, a minute, opaque appendage slithered subtly from her right hand and moved beneath the table. With a gentle pace, it made its way to the leather straps. EthanRaziel
Ethan's fist balled at his waist. Instinct pushed his hand towards the hilt hanging at his side. Magic left unchecked, especially dark magic was dangerous. A simple twist, a pointless argument broke her mind. His first reaction was death. Yet, a soft sympathy held him back. This woman had traveled across the land at his words and endangered herself for his own right. Though his hand retracted, Nohr's training took over. He watched her hands and looked for a book.
"I don't know anything huh. I've only been surrounded by Nohr for my entire life. Their cage is all I've ever known and I-:
He stopped mid-sentence, drawing his blade and launching at Mai's sudden tendril.

He cut the dark magic before its grotesque damage could be done. The sword whipped around and he drove its butt into Mai's stomach, using his size and strength to push her to the ground.
"Tell me." He asked, looking down on her through shaggy, azure strands. "Did you think of that? You're not a with Mai. And you're right, you're more than an innkeeper. You're a fool. People don't control dark magic, it controls them. You're a puppet. And before you go asking what I've done, remember that I was the one that saved you from brigands in the inn. You may have come and rescued me from the fort, but I pulled you out after Campbell's men injured you, after you fell unconscious through our escape. You may be sick of hearing my dealt, but look at that thing on the table. Look at where you are. If there was ever a time for doubt, it's now."
He sheathed his sword and returned up stone steps. Ethan had enough of musky tombs and he knew, this would eventually be Mai's.1d100

Ethan react before he could. The dragon drew in a sharp breath. He removed the sheet from the lifeless body. The dark magic couldn't be seen. For the moment it seemed crisis was avoided. There was so much research on the along the walls around him. A collection that he admired shouldn't exist. Ethan was right. "I am disappointed in you Miss Mai," he said. "We need to get rid of it." All of it, the books, the body, the lab.

Mai slowly turned on her side and pushed herself off the ground. She sat up, looked around the room, and then at the faces of the two men. Her own face was forlorn, and her heart, broken.
"All I wanted..." she murmured, "... was to help you..." Shakily, she stood back on her feet, "But all of this... this was for me... this was mine... all mine... a hideaway where I can do whatever I wanted..." She tucked her arms in as her body began to shudder in sorrow, "It... it was a mistake for me to have you two come down here. I was... I was so fond of you two. I loved you both as brothers in arms... I trusted you with my whole heart when I showed you this place..." Her tears dripped as an opaque black liquid from her eyes as her voice began to distort, "And now I... I cAn'T tAkE iT aNyMoRe. I hAtE yOu BoTh!!!"
As her final words crossed her mouth, her face became a lightless shade, and her red eyes flashed a harsh, iridescent light. Wretched darkness appeared from the bottom of her feet and began to cover her form.
"That is good, child," a soothing voice reverberated inside of the room. An unearthly apparition appeared above Mai's left shoulder, "Your wonderful ambition is better off where you may be free of judgment. Come home to me. You are safer here."
In that instant, Mai vanished from their sight, and the phantom took the form of a beautiful, angular sorceress.
"... Ah," she looked down at herself, "Still a touch see-through, but no matter." Her head lifted and a sharp smile crossed her face, "I've waited much too long for this. You two have my thanks."
Mai was gone in an instant. Ther was no time for the dragon to react, not that there was much he could have done to prevent all of this. He thought back to any signs. Nothing struck him as unordinary. He had barely stuck around the woman to really know her. Mai trusted him and Ethan with a lot. "Where is Mai?" he shouted, his voice almost a loud roar. It was directed to the womsan who had appeared in the room before him. She was no doubt an agent of dark magic herself. This would complicate thiings. The books which he had wanted to burn would no need to be preserved. All information was valuable to them until they saw the safe return of their inn keeper friend.
The stupidity of the entire situation ate away at Ethan's mind as he stormed back to the fresh in. He sought comfort that could only be brought by four thick, wooden walls. The fact that the foolish woman hiding below the ground, in some demented hideaway, couldn't control even the smallest form of dark magic was telling. He wondered if she learned her lesson. Hard headed eople like Mai could only learn while laying on cold stone. Then he heard Raziel.
Instinct whipped the grim wanderer around. He drew the iron blade hanging at his side and rushed back to the stairwell. The sound of beating wings backed each step. He looked over his shoulder to find that the plundered wyvern was racing after him. as it loyalty? Or was the beast only helping for the sake of removing evil?
acing down the stairwell,Ethan found himself pausing at the glowing entity. Mai was gone. Some evil, left in her place. "What the hell's going on here?" He asked, not really expecting an answer.
He held the blade out, using it as a deadly buffer. The wyvern managed to limber its way down the steps, leaving him with no room to retreat. Though the room was quite large, he felt the beast's hulking size would play against him. It would only be worse if Raziel had to transform. Whatever this thing was, it would have the advantage. Ethan prepared to defend himself, silently cursing Mai's mistake.

The young rider had angrily left on account of the young witch's incautiousness, but he returned with his wyvern coming after him.
"Uwah, so scary," the apparition raised her eyebrows at the manateke's outcry, "Mai... so that's what they called her. That's a cute name." She waved her hands in front of herself, "But don't you worry, 'Mai' is safe--safe from the both of you. Given the way you lot were talking, it seems you were done with your associations." The woman carelessly shrugged her shoulders, "I'm sure you already hate each other now, so it's for the best. Oh, what's that?" She raised her hand to her ear, "... Oh, I see! Yes, that sounds fun."
The apparition suddenly reappeared beside the table.
"This isn't a bad piece of work. Big, brawny, maybe a little heroic in his day…” her hand brushed against the Entombed's shoulder as dark fire burned the straps, "But it's no fun if he's outnumbered. Let's up the ante!" A portal opened upon the floor beside the table, causing a beaten, scarred man to stumbled out of it and onto the ground.
"D... damn it all..." he groaned as he rubbed his behind, "Where... where is this...?!"
"Caligula!" the ghost exclaimed as she pointed her finger at the man, "You will lay waste to this room with this Entombed! If you do not, I will personally whip your sorry rear cheeks!"
“Hyeeee!” Caligula suddenly raised himself off the ground as he watched the Entombed slowly raise itself from its platform. "Are you serious..." he said with a gawking expression, "That's... that's that guy... will he listen to me?”
The Entombed’s gaze wandered slowly between the figures, then slowly raised its arm to scratch the top of its head.
“… Ugo…” it grunted, “… Gnu?”
The apparition’s eyebrow twitched, “Che… she only got so far with it, huh… I’ll have to teach her a thing or two about personality adjustments. It can’t be helped now.”
“Wh… what do you mean…” Caligula stammered as he took out his tome.
“You want a more favored outcome, coward? HERE.”
Suddenly, out of the shadow in the corner of a room, an transparent Faceless had appeared and stood a ways near the manateke. A look of relief came onto Caligula’s face as he shakily prepared his tome.
“Don’t feel bad, guys,” spoke the ghost, “It’s necessary that you’re out of the picture, since you’d just be a hindrance in the future!” She threw her head back in an irritating, high-pitched laughter, “Yaaahahahaha! Wow! I made a rhyme! Aren’t you proud, matriarch?”

Outside of the inn, Satsuki had come outside with three cups of tea for the three who had sat beneath the willow tree. However, what she came out to see was Leigh-san's wyvern enter the innkeeper’s off-limits shack.
No one other than herself had been down there. Had Mai showed them the laboratory? Why would Leigh-san's wyvern be going down there?
Unease had set in her as she placed her serving plate down on a table and made a brisk run down the hill to the shack.
So Mai was no longer here. Very well. With two beasts around him and a dark mage, the dragon saw no reason to hold back. He was set on burning the lab in the first place. Now he was sure to get it done. With no mercy and full or rage, the man transformed into his dragon self.
Navigating the lab in the huge size made it difficult for him to navigate the room. His targets were much smaller and the layout of the lab gave them places to hide. The stone with an essence of fire only fueled his rage.

The room shrunk when Raziel shifted into his dragon form. The physical transformation was always off-putting, but Ethan had no time to contemplate the battle. Seeing another dragon in the room sent his wyvern into a furry. The creature charged passed him and sent the wanderer crashing towards the ground.
"Damn it!" He yelled out, scrambling to his feet. "You're supposed to wait for my go."
The cramped room grew hotter, bringing sweat along Ethan's brow before he could work one up on his own. Seeing that Raziel had struck first, the wanderer decided to follow his blow.
