You travel through the woods and push the brush aside. The grass beside you starts to shake. An ant emerges. It's the same size as you! You look around in awe before fear starts to settle in. How did this happen? You don't have much time to think about it because a giant spider jumps from the grass and attacks you.

Whisked away from his usual surroundings once more into an aquamarine void. Needless to day, the butler was less than impressed at the occurrence.
The pointed tips of pine trees appeared like a sea of flaky racing green specks- divided only by patches of dark cream and asparagus coloured grass. Grant did not foresee the enigma that is the gate dropping him off at such a high elevation.
Quick thinking was in order.
Not that he could not survive the fall. Regeneration was among one of the many things which allowed him to live through situations considered fatal to most men. Simply, he wished not to deal with any injuries he might receive from a failed attempt at landing safely.
Flying was out of the question, as was gliding down in any sort of manner. There were no nearby structures to grab onto or soft places to land. Duly, he needed to make his own entrance.
A dagger materialised in his right hand as he continued to descend. A Bael residing on the ground spotted the falling butler and in it’s hunger of prey, began to scale a tree.

"Tch," the butler narrowed his eyes as he cleaved downward heavily with the intention of sinking the dagger into both the Bael and the tree.

Unknown material jabbed straight through the Bael's head and into the trunk of the tree. His descent jerked to strongly, causing his body to hang downwards by his one arm securing himself to surface as his blade grinded his slow to a halt. Surprisingly enough, his body did not break under such a strong gravity. The tree however, was now in splinters.

As the butler dealt with the giant spider creature, Mai finally tumbled out of the portal.
"Geh!!" the woman grunted as she stopped rolling, "... What's going on? What just happened?" She rose from her spot and patted down her dress, then looked up toward the young fellow standing beside the Bael's corpse.
Oh, so it was over already?
"Hmph," the woman folded her arms and frowned, "So it seems the gentleman took initiative before the lady." Her hand waved as she turned away, "Fine. Have it your way." Grant

Grant raised an eyebrow upon hearing another person coming. Quickly after, he turned around to face the woman who had appeared seemingly out of nowhere. This made him all the more suspicious of her when taking into account how the Gate had it’s tricks of presenting harmless people only to have them hold a full on assault on him.
“I do not suppose you are another one of the various inhabitants of the Outrealms, are you?” He asked with a wave of his dagger before it appeared to dissipate into air. “It would not be the first time the gate has thrown me next to a beautiful lady only for her to then pull out a weapon whilst attempting a lunge at my throat,” he stated casually, unaware that he had used the term ‘beautiful’. It might have been the annoyance he had for the random antics of the multidimensional portal, or simply because he had been disturbed in a time of rest.
“Or perhaps you are an illusion of some sort- fitting considering the alluring grace you hold.” The butler continued with his rant. “For instance, your locks are curled to perfection!” One of his two index fingers pointed at her fringe. His eyebrows knit in aggravation.
For a person who appeared to be angry, he seemed to be rather full of genuine compliments.
“Gods confound it.” He took a deep breath of air in after throwing his arms up into the air. “I am speaking to an illusion.”

What was this fool babbling about? An illusion? Her? Quite the thespian he turned out to be.
"You're kind of weird," spoke Mai with puffed cheeks, she twisted her finger around the long sliver of blonde hair on her head, "Fumu... but at the very least you know how to compliment a lady."
She shrugged her shoulder and advanced a few steps, "Maybe you know the way out? I'm a bit lost here after stepping through the gate..." Grant

“Stepping through the gate. . .” Repeated the butler after her. Grant back-pedalled briefly before bowing forward. “You have my sincerest apologies for my tone, stranger.” The young man himself was unsure if he felt ashamed or idiotic for his actions- possibly both. He dared not to stand up straight, lest he would have to face a look of disapproval.
Irksome interruptions of the portal in his daily life might have made him mildly lose his temperament for a few seconds there. One moment he could be taking a stroll down a lonely road, and the next he was pitted against a pack of Mauthe doogs. At least it did not come at the most inconvenient of times and was considerate enough to spit him back out from where he entered.
All the more strange when she spoke of coming to the gate on her own accord.
“I suppose I know ‘of’ an exit,” he said. “In theory and as well as from my own experiences, there tend to be two ‘doors’ between these realities. One leading into these strange worlds. One leading out.” His eyelids fell shut.
“Finding the way out should be as simple as a matter of walking around in any given direction until we stumble upon it. It should not take more than an hour or so.”

So, he was a sane person, albeit with an eclectic vocabulary and unusual sense of humor. What an embarrassing thing she must've witnessed on his account.
"You've been through here a lot, huh?" Mai snickered with a fold of her arms, "Well, hopefully there wouldn't be any more creatures about after what just happened. Lead the way, umu..." she squinted at him, "... I didn't get your name."
If anything, that should've been the... tenth or so thing he said. Young men in these portals sure have lack of manners.Grant

“Indeed I have,” he stood upright and proper. “That or at least more than the average person.” Grant then began to trail along further into the dense woods. A hand waved around in perhaps emphasis of his casual disregard for the Gate’s nuisances. “Grant was the name I received at birth.”
Not long down the unpaved path they took, a faint blue glimmer could be seen emanating past some trees.
“I suppose this is where we part ways,” the butler uttered as he sheathed his weapon.

"Grant , huh?" Mai nodded, "I'm Watanabe Mai. Innkeeper of Raven's Rest. Maybe next time you're in Kitsuki, you can pay me a visit, ne?" She waved her hand toward him and smiled, "I'll see you around, Grant-san." Shortly after she had spoken, she entered the blue light and stood on a hill overlooking Kitsuki.
Something felt strange though. Mai reached into her vest pocket and pulled out a piece of topaz.
That guy... did he slip this on her just before she left?
