It was uncommon for Lydia to go out with her childhood friend, and master. Antoinette had grown into a fine young woman and was married off to a rich man to insure her father's stable farm. The elf and her past master would write to each other from time to time, but the letters wouldn't come fast enough. Her latest letter had mentioned attending Layla's grand performance in Cyrkensia and stated how wonderful it would be if Lydia could see it with her. Full of excitement, Lydia made way to Cyrkensia to meet up with her friend after so long.
In such a large city it was near impossible to find her. After a good hour, Lydia finally caught sight of her walking through the stalls while clinging to her noble husband's arm. Lydia waved sheepishly, but had gone unnoticed at first until she ran up to the woman with a cheery hello. The two greeted each other with warm welcomes and a kiss on the cheek. Making light conversation that evening, they walked the streets until it was time for the opera. Lydia took her seat first while Antionette followed behind with her husband. Her husband came, but Antionette was nowhere to be seen. Lydia looked to her husband with a confused look on her face. "Where is she?" They both seemed to ask at the same time. "I thought she was with you."
Lydia left the theatre in a hurry and scanned the crowded area for the woman. She caught a glimpse of the woman in the crowd. Antionette was struggling, in the arms of another man as he pulled her through the crowd. "HEY!" she shouted, chasing after the pair, trying to draw attention to others in the crowd to grab the two. She reached into her bag for her dagger but soon she was lost in the sea of people unable to make contact with the man.
The streets were crowded, had been for hours. Despite being packed tight between rows of stalls and street performers, Ethan Leigh was enjoying himself. The various unhealthy foods being sold smelled better than they probably tasted.
His sword dangled at his hip. On occasion, it made things difficult to pass. However, he wanted people to see it. This wasn't just a fun trip. This was business. This place was so busy, people were bound to need help. And he was the right person to help them.
Someone's shouting voice caught his attention. A woman panicked, surrounded by a sea of faces. Ethan pushed his way through strangers and caught up to the woman. "Hey!" He said loudly "What's going on ? You okay?"

For a moment the sudden attention that the man had giveno to her had startled her. Lydia had been expecting to be no different than thever others, just another face lost within the sea of others. This man had came to her through all the noise in the crowd. He had seen her frantic expression. She didn't think for a moment to stop and thank him, or even to say hello and get to know him. The maid's problems would now belong to him.
"We need to hurry," she said to the man, he words rushed through her panic. "They have my friend. They're getting away!" Lydia had started moving as she spoke, leading the man away isn't the direction the others had been seen last.
"Who does?" Ethan asked as the stranger lead him on "How many people?"
He tried to, but couldn't think of anything more to ask. Her rushing confused him, bound his mind to nothing and all he could do was run with her. People watched them. Their judgmental faces called the two mad. Ethan tried to push them away. He stood in front of the woman, using brutish force to shove people away and carry them faster.

"I could only see one man clearly. Another followed close, but I can't be certain if he was with them for sure." It was a safe bet to say that it was indeed the case. Who knew if there were more after that. The further the maid pushed on the more lost she began to get. She lost sight of them blocks ago and was now running on a whim hoping that she would once again catch a glimpse of her friend being pulled into the crowd.
Finally feeling that she had lost, Lydia's pace began to slow. "The man that had her had black hair and a beard. He had fur around his shoulder, I think and from how the sun hit him, I'd say he was armored. The man behind him had to be a dwarf.. He was so short and stumpy. " Lydia thought it might be easier to find a dwarf here. Human's blended in being the majority.
Panic was once again settling in. She wouldn't be able to find her. "Why did it have to be her?" she growled. Out of all the wealthy women in the city, why did the one that just so happened to get kidnapped today have to be her friend?
Ethan slowed ahead of the woman as she stopped, nearly bumping into a stranger as he stopped. He listened as she described the kidnappers and as she lamented her luck. This was no time to break down and it sure as hell wasn't time to stop. He turned and faced the woman.
"I know you're torn up, but we can't stop. We can't let them get further. A person can be anyone here, but a dwarf is a bit easier to find. We'll look around. They're probably going to want to get off the streets, so we need to find that. Now calm down. What's your name?"

Lydia took a long deep breath in an attempt to calm herself. The man was right. Antoinette was counting on her, and now this man, to come and rescue her. With her exhale she tilted her head up to the sky, taking in the tall walls that surrounded her in the city. "We could ask around. Surely some people know of a dwarf here. Or better yet, that man. I just don't know where to start." An inn? A tavern? Or there was the stables. Lydia didn't have the time to stand around and talk.
She started moving again, heading towards a nearby tavern. She'd heard plenty of story about a dwarves and mead. "It's Lydia. And yourself?" She asked the man who had the time to stop in the middle of the crowd to help a woman in distress. A real knight in shining armor.
"Ethan." He answered, meeting her eyes with the most comforting look he could give. He started walking, he knew who he was going to ask. He lead Lydia on, seeking any child. The younger ones, who were often ignored, always noticed things that were out of place. A man with heavy armor or a dwarf. Eventually, the two found a a group of children splashing about a puddle close to a hanging lantern.
"Excuse me!" Ethan called out as they approached. "What do you want?" A child asked. His body was dirty and his clothes were ragged. These children were urchins. "I need your help. These people kidnapped a girl and we really need to know if you saw them." The kid turned away "Why should we help you?"

Children? For a moment Lydia flashed Ethan a confused look. There wasn't much a child could do to help them, unless Ethan was planning to lift the child into a hard to reach place. They looked small enough to get into anywhere. But from their reaction it didn't look like they would be willing to help. Not for free anyways.
"My friend could be in a lot of danger," Lydia frowned. "Would you be willing to help us for a sweet roll?" Lydia had seen a stall in their rush over.
The kids glanced to each other. A devious smile spread across their leader's chubby face "A sweet roll for each of us? And some hot chocolate?"
Ethan glared at the child. Of course of all the children in the city, he would run into the bratty ones. The wanderer rolled his eyes "And what information do you have that would be worth a sweet roll and chocolate?"
"Pay up and find out." The kid met Ethan's eyes with a glare of his own.

Lydia held in a breath as the children's demands only grew. She was hoping to get away with a single sweet roll for them all to split. Now she had to get hot chocolate too? She would make her friends husband pay her back for sure. The man should have been the one out here with her, that coward.
"I'll tell you what," Lydia smiled, she crouched down to the child's level and placed a hand upon his forehead, "I'll get the sweet rolls now, but the hot chocolate will come after you help my friend and I out."
The scrappy boy looked to his friends. They smirked, flashing thumbs up and he turned around "Yeah alright lady. Cough up the sweet rolls and you'll get all the info you need."
"You're actually gonna do it?" Ethan asked "These little punks aren't the only one on the streets!"
"Hey, up yours too old man." The kid said "We happen to have some great info and I wouldn't talk about us like that if I were you."
Ethan's bored face met the child's "Right."

Punks or not, Lydia was going to take any chance she had to save her friend. This was Ethan's idea, and now he wanted to find some other kids. "I'll take my chances," Lydia said. She pointed at one of the kids and waved him to follow her. She left the man with the kids and fished out some money for sweet rolls from her pouch. The two of them carried the rolls back for the group. And Lydia went right to questioning.
"I'm looking for a man who was seen with a dwarf." The woman went on to describe the pair as she had described them to Ethan earlier. "Do these two sound familiar?"
"Yeah we saw em." The boy said, munching on his snack "We saw the dwarf. He was with that guy. They were carrying her off to the river docks and we overheard them talk about getting on a boat to go deeper into Nohr. They were going to sell her to some slaver man. They sounded like bad guys so we didn't try to scam them. You need anything else?"

What? How the heck did a kid know all of this? He was lying, he absolutely had to be. The woman could feel her legs starting to feel weak. She pulled out a few gold pieces and gave them to children. It should have been enough to cover the price of the hot chocolate. Lydia didn't bother to thank them outside of that. She turned in her heels and started off to the dock. There was a direction to go now. Her fingers balled into a tight fist, nails digging into the palm of her hands. "Of course it had to be slavers," she growled. That friend of hers had horrible luck.
