Ethan Leigh always felt safest when traveling through mountains. There was something about their cold nights that reminded him of home and their rocky isolation was welcomed comfort. The more time he had spent out in Hoshido, the more he grew to like it. On occasion, he would stumble passed the war torn rubble of some unfortunate village and it would remind him why he was constantly on the road.
However the road he walked was unkempt. If there were sign posts about, they words had faded long ago. The work of man often loss to mother nature. All things returned to her grand design in the end. And Ethan found a strange beauty in that. Jagged hills pulled away to reveal a peaceful looking hamlet.
Ethan picked up his pace. The wandering man, of blue hair, was tired. His black jacket and gray undershirt held several days worth of sweat. Even the soles of his heavily worn shoes needed changing. Above all else, he really just wanted a nice bath.
As he walked, lost in thought, he heard a short meow to his side. The wanderer turned to see a cat stretched along someone's post. The little animal amused Ethan and he approached it holding out it his hand. As it sniffed, its eyes narrowed and the wanderer chuckled to himself. "I know little guy. I could use a bath."

Uki was fairly unknown, even to those who lived in Hoshido all their lives. It was very isolated and most people who would visit the town would have to make a conscious effort to find the place. It wasn't know for anything. It did not have a special attraction or festival that would peek people's interests. Even when visitors would come, most would be during the summer. Uki was simply a small farm town in the middle the Hoshidon mountains.
When it came to the people of Uki, there are only a few variances. There were farmers, which included most of the town's residence, the occasional merchant, a couple soldiers, and then the clergy. The seasons and the location of the town kept the population small. Most people who lived in Uki were born there, never having seen anywhere else for their entire life. There were exceptions though. One of these was Miyoko.
Miyoko, a young shrine maiden, hadn't lived all her life in Uki. Before becoming part of the temple she now resides in, she lived with her parents in Southern Hoshido. Miyoko's blindness endangered her in the more or less dangerous region. Her parents dropped her off in Uki, never to see them again. She didn't mind, however. It was a peaceful life that she enjoy in the village.
Today she had to operated her healing post, a small post the temple had set up for her. It was there to help any traveler, however unlikely, she would try to assist them any way she could, usually either with healing or some food. Miyoko was under her post's counter, feeling for her rod, having dropped it just a few seconds ago. Her cat had suddenly jumped on her and she threw her rod to the ground. Just as she felt the rod's handle, she heard her cat meow. Grabbing hold of the staff, the panicked shrine maiden came up behind the counter.
Bowing towards the direction of the voice she had heard, she put on a warm smile and rattled off the message she was told to convey. "H-hello! I'm Miyoko, Shrine Maiden at Uki Temple! I welcome you to our humble town~ I-Is there anything I c-can h-help y-you with? I-I will point you in the r-right direction...errr, more he will...." Miyoko pet her cat as she said this, laying her healing rod on the counter.
"Oh." The wanderer smiled. "Hi there. I'm Ethan." He brushed his hand against the animals soft fur. "Cute little fellow. What's his name?"
His words came with a certain amount of embarrassment. Not that everything counted on first impressions, but he felt like his disheveled manner and stench might be offensive. The man charged through his circumstance by upping his charm. "Nice little town you got here. It looks quite lovely." He sighed. "Well Miyoko, I am in desperate need of a bath. I've been on the road for a few days and well a soft bed to sleep in would be great too. And if your little friend could point my someplace to fill my stomach, I'd be pretty grateful. I don't ask all this for free. I have gold of course."

Miyoko nodded, stroking her cat's soft head. Outside the monks who raised her, her cat was probably the closest she has to a family. He was her guide through life, her protector and everything in between. "His name is Hisoka. He is my guide. You see, I'm blind." Miyoko gave Ethan another smile. "Well, we don't have an inn or anything in town but my Temple has open beds and a shower for travelers. We have food but we ask you for a small donation if you choose to dine with us....If you want to go there, I, uh, can come with you...." Miyoko tried to give Ethan a reassuring smile, hoping her doesn't assume that he is causing her no trouble.
"Hisoka?" Ethan repeated. "Cute name. Oh." The wanderer stopped, noticing the blank stare in her vacant eyes. "That's unfortunate, but um. At least you make do?"
He felt a certain level of sympathy for her. Ethan couldn't imagine a life without sight. There were questions, but he wasn't rude enough to ask them. He approached the woman. His actions slowed, almost like he was giving her enough time to sense him.
"I can definitely make a donation and a bed would be well appreciated."

Miyoko tilted her head, shooting a radiant smile at Ethan. "I'm happy. The monks and the people are super nice here and I'm not in constant danger as I would back with my parents. It's a simple life but it's rewarding...." Bowing, she patted her cat behind the left ear. The cat meowed, looking at Ethan. Jumping off the counter, the cat started to walk closer to the inside of the town.
Miyoko smiled, pulling her healing rod from the stand. "I'm a healer, you see..." Miyoko smiled, listening to her cat as it slowly walked towards the temple in the town.
Even though she had explained it, there was still a level of surprise with the cat guiding her. Ethan hadn't been out of the Ice Tribe for long, but he had learned that cats weren't the most obedient of creatures. The wanderer smiled. Watching the cat lead her was somewhat amusing.
"A healer?" Ethan asked. "That's pretty admirable. Not the part about you healing, but the fact that you don't let it stop you." He stopped himself, not sure with how rude he was acting. Subjects were changed fast. "Do you see your parents often?" He asked. "I don't see mine. It's been a few months and I don't think I'll be seeing them again."
