The nurse walked through the woods with her hands resting on low hanging trees. She wasn't strong, but she did what she could to silently make Marian's trip easier. She was quiet at first, her thoughts traveled to her past when she worked on the farm. "It's not my first time being tied up," she admitted. "But this is the fiest time I actually knew I was in trouble. I've done my share of fighting. I probably could have found some way to get away from those men on my own." Maybe they would let her go on good behavior. Hah.
"Oh really now? I have a preference for avoiding being tied up, myself, hopefully such events will cease to occur." He stated ever so bluntly, as he tried not to show the exhaustion this walking created upon him. "I have no doubt you could easily beat me in a battle." He lit a bit of fire into one of his hands to provide some light.
"Probably," she responded. She wasn't going to hide that from him. The kid could barely walk on his own. His body was frail. Though Lydia had very little knowledge of magic, she could probably find a way to resist it. If anything, she'd make it out of here with a few simple burns. Burning, she had known before.
"Thank you for the light," she responded. "You might be weak, but you're useful Marian. I'll give you that much." Without her speaking, the forest had grown quiet. In a way, it bothered the maid. "So, why Asinine?" She hadn't bothered to ask about it before, but seeing as the two had plenty of time together now, there would be no choice.
"It seems rather hard to proceed, whilst shrouded in darkness." He said with ease, as he kept going along. Perhaps if he learned a wind spell, he could make it easier? He definitely would have to look into that in the future. "However, I'm glad that by some chance, I've made myself useless, otherwise I'd probably be dead."
He heaved silently, as he tried not to collapse. "Asinine... While I've never been particularly foolish, my servants and maids, for some peculiar reason, view me as a logical fallacy. My actions and mannerism confuses them, clearly a sign that they lack understanding... Mistaking me for foolish, it became a common nickname." He took a deep breath, before continuing.
"The name only bothers me slightly, but call me my real name, or that, I don't particularly care."
"I could believe it. I'm sure there are plenty of ways that your magic could come in handy for me. While I don't have an affinity for magic, I have been thinking about studying it a bit myself. I'm actually pretty fascinated by it. My daggers were just a faster option." The woman continued walking ahead of him while he recounted the story of his nickname. At points, her head would tilt slightly in his direction to show that she was paying full attention to him, just not interested in wasting energy in standing around making idle chitchat. There was no telling how much longer this boy would last before a rest was needed. "I can understand where they're coming from. As a nurse, it really does seem foolish for me to allow your body to deteriorate in such a way. You're still a youthful young lad, yet you can barely carry yourself through these woods. I take it you have no interest in building a family, or friendships for that matter. Doesn't that life get lonely?"
"Hm... I'll have a family eventually. As the only Eisle heir, I have to carry on the family legacy." The boy said plainly, his steps getting more shaking. He sighed a bit, as his monotone voice continued onward. "However, with the meaningless nature of my life, there's not particularly a position for something such as friendship. Lonely or social, there's not a point to any of it."
Lydia could hardly believe this boy. A lot of what he said made very little sense to her. He didn't want friends, yet he needed to carry on his family's name. She highly doubted that he was interested in that. "So why bother?" She asked him. "You don't seem interested in it. Why bother? You don't seem to care what other people think of you, I imagine that includes your parents and family. So what if your family's name ends with you? It would save your future wife a lot of trouble. I doubt you're looking for anybody and maker bless the woman who is willing to put up with you." Lydia knew that money could be a powerful motivator for some, but it was never worth a lifetime of unhappiness. A life without love or an arranged marriage just seemed so... pointless to her. "Maybe you should at least try to accomplish something for once. It might actually give your life some meaning."
Her words caused him to pause for a moment, something not easily done. He rolled down against a tree till he was seated. This felt like a good time to take a break, if he was being honest.
"That's an interesting assessment, accurate. However the Eisle family has survived many generations, and made many scholastic advancements. I have a duty to uphold that, no matter how meaningless a duty it is." He stated plainly, his only real reason to continue, was as he said. Duty. "After all, that was the only reason I was born into this world."
The nurse kept on walking at first. She hadn't realized her slower companion stopped for a break until the flame he held in his hand as a torch grew dimmer as she got further away. She sighed and turned back to him. This would slow their progress down quite a bit. Lydia dipped her body down and picked a fallen bran check off of the forest floor. She held it out in front of the boys fire and hoped it would catch. "You could have been brought into the world to have more purpose than that. Your life is whatever you make of it. Do not let anybody tell you otherwise. I'm no stranger to shattering people's expectations," she tilted her head so her pointed ears were fully visible, "I've had to really show this country just what elves can do. Who would have thought that medical knowledge was actually important?"
Asinine shrugged lightly at such an idea. "I suppose you could say... It's different if you're not a member of an established family..." He said, in a bit of a mumble, rationalizing an excuse to this, as he breathed back and forth, to catch his breath. "It's a shame you were birthed with such a blatant disadvantage." While the words were those one would most likely consider rude, the young man didn't seem to notice, having meant instead to compliment.
"I suppose I could say that," Lydia didn't bother to fight it anymore. "At least you're learning a bit about survival now." The elven maid pointed out. She used her makeshift torch to look around the area for something she could forage for them to eat. What she found wasn't much. Some dandelions. Some berries. It was almost like a very natural salad, served from her hands. She held it out to Asinine. "It's no meat, but it'll held get your energy up so we can keep traveling. The greens might do you some good. If you want to try something more, you'll need to help me catch it."
