The woman ran to the kid whom had joined her in this fight. This was bad. Very bad. The ninja the pair had just fought was forgotten as he laid slain in the street. He was past Lydia's saving. The kid however, had not been. This was the second time she had encountered him. The first had been in her travels through that cursed gate. She grabbed her staff and twirled it around in the air, healing the boy up a little bit. "I really appreciate your assistance, kid. Will you be okay? Allow me to tend to your wounds. There is an inn nearby, we can get out of the street at the very least."
The young mage's eyes glanced towards her, before his head followed in suit, robotically. His eyes looked mostly void of anything, and one of his eyebrows rose, "You may tend to my wounds, however I'll be fine after that." He stated oh so icily, before rolling his wheelchair towards her. "However, don't address me as if I'm a child."
Almost automatically, Lydia walked behind the kid's chair, assisting him in moving along just a little bit faster. She needed to tend to his wounds. Um. Okay? Lydia was a little taken back by the way this kid reacted. She assumed that it was a result from the battle. "I am older than you," she pointed out. She wasn't quite sure how to react to this kids mannerisms. "Would you rather me address you as Young Man, or perhaps you can give me a name to call you? My name is Lydia. I think I've met you once before. We fought together before."
He shook his head in annoyance, he didn't doubt she could be older, but he certainly wasn't a 'kid' as she had put it oh so graciously. "My name is Marian Eisle, however most people seem to call me Asinine, for some completely idiotic reason. Really quite annoying." He stated nonchalantly, with a wave of his hand. "But yes, we did, didn't we. Did you want me to say 'you're welcome', or something?"
Huh. She never would have thought to call him Asinine if he wouldn't have introduced himself as that why. She tapped her bottom lip in debate about that. The kid outright said it was annoying, so why would people bother to call him that then. Unless they were making fun of him. "If you don't like it, then why do you introduce yourself that way?" she asked him. They were out of the streets now and in the inn. She knelt down to get to his level and started looking over his wounds. What her staff hadn't healed, salves might. Nothing seemed to be very lasting. The boy would heal. "I'm not expecting anything from you Marian." She spoke without looking up from a cut he had, "it was merely an observation. We make a pretty decent team."
"It's annoying, but I don't really care anymore." He muttered, as he rubbed the back of his neck quietly.
"That's fortunate, I'm not one for meaningless formalities." He stated ever so simply, as she observed his injuries. "But I suppose we did work fairly decent together..." His clothing was a little torn, not much, but a bit as a result... He didn't really care, after all, clothing wasn't his thing, but regardless, it was annoying to have rips that revealed him slightly. "Are the injuries severe? I sincerely doubt it."
"Still..." Lydia said. This boy made no sense. Something made Lydia think that he didn't think a lot of things through very carefully. Or maybe he just liked the attention. "..Eh.. Nevermind."
She prodded a bit more at his injuries before finishing up. "No. They're not severe. I don't even think they'll leave a mark. We were very lucky that nothing worse came out of this. I wasn't expecting to come across a wanted criminal like that. I'm not particularly fond of violence. I should have healed him up, but you were more concern to me."
"... A worthless Hoshidan? You'd heal someone like that?" Asinine's eyebrows furrowed slightly, before he sighed relatively like he normally would. "They were after our country's secrets, after all." He yawned a bit, as he stretched his arm a bit before glancing down upon himself.
"However, now that you've tended to my injuries, feel free to leave." The way he said that was so blunt, as if he didn't mean to be as rude as he sounded. "I have to progress in my studies."
Worthless. Lydia looked down at the comment the boy had made. How could he think of somebody else in that way? "I wouldn't go as far as to call anybody worthless, Marian. A life is a life. That man had friends and a family. He was an enemy only to Nohr." Lydia and Asinine hadn't even been a target of him. With a long sigh she got up and dusted her skirt off. She was done with this boy. "I'll take my leave," she said. Perhaps that man's body was still there. Lydia had only gotten to the doorway when her body jolted with pain. She reached her hand to her neck, expecting the boy to have hit her with a spell. Her body was becoming stiff. And she fell to the ground, eyes on the boy in the chair before her as her vision was beginning to fade to black. "Wh.." She could hardly speak. What did he do?
"Whatever, farewe-..." Asinine tried to let out a reply, as his eyes began to go even more dull than usual. He started to fall forward, and suddenly there was blankness, as everything that he could see.
It seemed to be quite a decent period of time later, before the young man's eyes opened. As he examined his surroundings, it seemed almost as thought he was in Hoshido. His body was being held limply over someone's shoulder, and nightfall was approaching. He wanted to sigh, however, he assumed it may be better to listen for now. His eyes fell shut.
The men who had attacked them moved into the room with silence. Lydia hadn't even known one was beside her until she felt her body being lifted up from the floor. Her eyes were still focused on Asinine. She saw the man that lifted him up more clearly, well as clearly as she could see somebody through her hazy vision. That ninja they had attacked in the market, did have friends. Why now did they decide to make themselves known? Why hadn't they helped him in the fight? Lydia and Asinine had now been alone, not surrounded by others in the busy streets. Ninjas worked in darkness. Lydia's eyes were growing darker. Her world became heavier as the poison in her veins began to take control. Finally, with her body lifted from the ground, she gave into that darkness.
It was still dark when she awoke later. Night had fallen. It was the only clue to how long Lydia had been out for, maybe. She was on the ground, bound in ropes on her hands and legs. The weight of her daggers were gone. By the light of the moon she could see the two men sitting nearby.
The mage held still as the men kept moving but before he knew it, he was tied up beside the lady who had helped him earlier. He let out a small grunt, as he toppled beside her.
As the men seemed to make themselves comfortable, he began to notice her move. She had to be awake as well, this had to be a most annoying situation... He actually wasn't quite sure yet, how he intended to escape, perhaps offering them money... Actually that working out alright, was very unlikely.
"So, do you think we're going to die?" He whispered with a flippant tone. Honestly, he didn't really care if he did die though...
Her eyes closed as the voice beside her spoke up. The kid was here too. He was still alive. Lydia's mouth hung open to allow a light hiss to come from between her lips. The action was a shush. The boy would keep quiet if he knew what was good for him. He was asking things that Lydia didn't want to think about. These men were probably trained to hear even the lightest of movements. They probably already knew the two of them were up. Her heart was racing. After everything Lydia had been through, this wasn't how she wanted her life to end. She wasn't going to be a prisoner! All she had done was protect herself. She closed her eyes and began to analyze the situation. The woman swallowed hard and spoke, her voice hardly audible to even herself. "Can you use magic still?"
Asinine refused to let another noise escape his lips, as she asked such a teeny tiny question. One of his hands lit a tiny fire, before immediately making it die down. However, they most likely were outmatched, he didn't really know if he liked the odds they were likely to face.
The woman's eyes widened with fear. A simple nod of his head would have been enough. That idiot! He could have burnt her bindings at the very least. It was the worst possible thing for him to do in the darkness of the night. The light was fully visible to the other men. One had already began to come over to the pair. Lydia swallowed hard and shouted up at the man to draw any attention away from the boy he was with.
"You there!" She shouted. Despite being bound, Lydia had wormed her way into a favorable position, her face no longer in the dirt at least. "Untie me. What is the meaning of this? I have done nothing to be treated like this."
The ninja came up to her. His foot collided with her shoulder and pushed her back against the earth. "You Nohr scum are all alike. We were here for scouting only, and look what you had gone and done. Our friend has been killed because you two couldn't keep to yourselves." It was a very Nohr thing to do.
That hadn't been quite how Lydia remembered it happening. "You're lying and you know it," Lydia fired back. "Marian and I had just been protecting ourselves from the man after he attacked us." Lydia was no murderer and she wouldn't be treated as such. She was a nurse for maker's sake. "Untie us and you will never see Marian and I again. I am no enemy to Hoshido. What is it you plan to do with us?"
