"HAHA! This is a step-by-step guide on how to utilize the battle system effectively! Listen to my words, recruits!"
PREPARE!
!!! BEFORE YOU START OR ENGAGE YOUR OPPONENT !!!
1. Get to know your natural stats and skills! For example, a Level 1 Knight boasts these stats!
Health Points (HP) 19 | Strength (STR) 8 | Magic (MAG) 0 |
Skill (SKL) 5 | Speed (SPD) 3 | Defense (DEF) 8 (+2) |
Resistance (RES) 1 |
(The +2 on my defense is from a skill I have equipped: [Defense +2]! It allows me to have a higher defense, of course!)
Now, pay attention to these stats for a moment. I have SKL 5, which I will take into account for my natural hit chance. This will be added to my weapon's hit chance, which I will mention next...
2. Find out your weapon's Hit Chance and Might!
Your weapon's Hit Chance is shown in a percentage. For example: what I have here is a Rank E Bronze Lance! It has 5 MT and a 90% chance of hitting my opponent. If I have 90 HIT on this lance, then I will take my 5 SKL stat and add it to 90 HIT, and so I get 95 HIT!
Arithmetic: 90 (W. HIT) + 5 (SKL) = 95 (HIT)
Arithmetic: 90 (W. HIT) + 5 (SKL) = 95 (HIT)
3. (Optional) See if you can apply the weapon triangle!
If you are using it, find out if you have the advantage! I had a mock battle with Lady Watanabe (Witch Class) one time, and understanding the weapon triangle truly gave me an edge in battle! If the advantage is yours, your hit chance would be increased, and upon higher classing, the chance is higher and your might will also be taken into account! Be wary, however, as a disadvantage is also detrimental! In the mock battle, I had a +5 hit chance against Lady Watanabe, which had spared me defeat in an even match!
ADVANTAGE (+5): 95 (HIT) + 5 (W.T.) = 100 (HIT, which is essentially unblockable and unavoidable!)
DISADVANTAGE (-5): 95 (HIT) - 5 (W.T.) = 90 (HIT)
ADVANTAGE (+5): 95 (HIT) + 5 (W.T.) = 100 (HIT, which is essentially unblockable and unavoidable!)
DISADVANTAGE (-5): 95 (HIT) - 5 (W.T.) = 90 (HIT)
4. Place your hit chance against your opponent's SPD!
Your opponents natural speed decreases your hit chance! For example, Lady Watanabe's base speed stat for our mock battle was 5. Sadly, this would be subtracted from my hit chance!
Arithmetic: 95 (HIT) - 5 (OPPONENT'S SPD) = 90 (HIT)
Speed stats vary from opponent to opponent, so be sure to make a fresh calculation depending on your foe!
Arithmetic: 95 (HIT) - 5 (OPPONENT'S SPD) = 90 (HIT)
Speed stats vary from opponent to opponent, so be sure to make a fresh calculation depending on your foe!
5. Add your Might and Strength together!
Indeed, for if I add my natural 8 STR to my lance's 5 MT, then I have a total of 13 potential damage! I say potential, because we must consider our enemy's defense as well!
8 (STR) + 5 (MT) = 13 (DMG)
(For magic users, this would be your MAG stat with your weapon's MT.)
8 (STR) + 5 (MT) = 13 (DMG)
(For magic users, this would be your MAG stat with your weapon's MT.)
COMBAT!
"Now that we have those out of the way, let us get to actually battling! Would anyone like to volunteer? Oh good! Please come up here!"
Nohr Soldier (Recruit)
Weapon: Bronze Lance, MT 5 HIT 90
Level 1
HP 17 | STR 5 | MAG 0 | SKL 5 | SPD 5 | DEF 5 | RES 2
So, let us remember my hit chance (95) and pit it against my opponent's SPD stat (5).
95 (HIT) - 5 (Opponent SPD) = 90 (HIT)
Conversely, let us calculate his end.
95 (His weapon HIT and his SKL) - 3 (Opponent SPD) = 92 (HIT)
I see! So he has a two percent higher chance of landing a blow on me! Very well!
"Bring it on, old man!"
Don't get cocky simply because of that! En garde!
"HEY, WAIT!"
2rMV5_Lk1-100
(Needs 90)
"YOWCH!"
Now it is his turn!
1-100
Hohoho! I wouldn't bother dividing that!
"Wh... what?!"
Already I see that my opponent has a major disadvantage! He can land a hit, but his arm is too weak to do any damage to this body of mine! Pray tell, recruit! Do you surrender?!
"Ah... ah... no! I'll beat you! I WILL!"
Such courage! Such boldness! I commend you for your bravery, but your struggle will be futile! Let us continue then!
My speed: 3 SPD
Opponent's speed: 5 SPD
1-100
Another successful attack, but there is no damage to be had!
Deacon's HP: 19/19
"Grrr! What's with you...!"
I told you. Oh, well! It is MY TURN!
1-100
A successful roll, and so I have inflicted 8 DMG!
Recruit's HP: 5/17
"N... no way..."
As you can see, another successful attack from me will end the fight, so I shall call upon my opponent once again! Do you surrender?!
"I swear... I will win...!"
No? Well, alright. In this case, I shall be fair and give him the chance to perform a critical hit! YOUNG MAN! ARE YOU NOT A NOHRIAN?! LET YOUR FIERY SOUL INHIBIT YOUR MUSCLES AND GIVE YOU THE STRENGTH TO PERFORM THE GREATEST STRIKE OF YOUR CAREER!!!
"Y... YES SIR!!! UOOOOHHHHH!!"
(A little pep talk to boost his critical chance to 100%. This will give him a chance to show us all what he is capable of!)
1-2
[!!Please note that this was a manipulated roll. This sort of attack would never be in an actual combat experience!!]
"YAAAAHR!"
Deacon's HP: 9/19
1-100
Recruit's HP: 0/17
I simply push the recruit to the ground and hold my lance to his neck! Victory is mine! Very good, young man, I applaud your efforts! NOW GET BACK IN LINE, thank you!
1-100·1-100·1-100·1-100·1-2·1-100Nohr Soldier (Recruit)
Weapon: Bronze Lance, MT 5 HIT 90
Level 1
HP 17 | STR 5 | MAG 0 | SKL 5 | SPD 5 | DEF 5 | RES 2
As you can see, this soldier is using a weapon of similar structure to mine. Already the weapon triangle in non-applicable as we are both using this weapon.
"I shall formally begin combat!"
{COMBAT INITIATED}
{COMBAT INITIATED}
PHASE 1, First Attacks
On the first attack, damage is halved! Why? We're warming up, of course!
I will now roll 1-100, and hope that my attack lands!
2rMV5_Lk1-100
(Needs 90)
A successful hit! Now, time to calculate damage. Weapon MT (5) plus my STR stat (8)! I have 13 potential damage. Let us consider my opponent's defense! His defense stat is 5!
Therefore,
13 (STR and MT) - 5 (Opponent's DEF) = 8 (DMG)
And because it is the first attack, we must half it.
8(DMG)/2 = 4 (DMG)
And so I have inflicted 4 DMG! Let us subtract that from his health! The Recruit's Health is 17, and I have inflicted 4 damage. His health is now 13!
17 (HP) - 4 (DMG) = 13 HP
Recruit's HP: 13/17
Therefore,
13 (STR and MT) - 5 (Opponent's DEF) = 8 (DMG)
And because it is the first attack, we must half it.
8(DMG)/2 = 4 (DMG)
And so I have inflicted 4 DMG! Let us subtract that from his health! The Recruit's Health is 17, and I have inflicted 4 damage. His health is now 13!
17 (HP) - 4 (DMG) = 13 HP
Recruit's HP: 13/17
"YOWCH!"
Now it is his turn!
1-100
He needs 92 HIT, so he was successful this time... but did he do any surmountable damage to myself? Let us find out!
10 (Weapon MT and STR) - 10 (Opponent's DEF) = 0 (DMG)
10 (Weapon MT and STR) - 10 (Opponent's DEF) = 0 (DMG)
Hohoho! I wouldn't bother dividing that!
"Wh... what?!"
Already I see that my opponent has a major disadvantage! He can land a hit, but his arm is too weak to do any damage to this body of mine! Pray tell, recruit! Do you surrender?!
"Ah... ah... no! I'll beat you! I WILL!"
Such courage! Such boldness! I commend you for your bravery, but your struggle will be futile! Let us continue then!
Phase 2, Speed is now a factor
As you have noticed, I have attacked first in the first round, but consider it the initiation for the fight! The next rounds following take SPD stat into consideration! So notice...
My speed: 3 SPD
Opponent's speed: 5 SPD
The recruit has higher speed than I! This means he must attack first... not that he'll do much of anything. Regardless, the Turn Order is as follows: Recruit is first, then Deacon.
Critical Hits: These happen when you roll a number below half your SKL. In this case, the recruit's SKL is 5, thus his Critical Hit chance is actually 2.5, but that is not a number on the dice roll. One must round down to the decimal, in this case, 2, to have a Critical Hit. It should be noted that these attacks never miss!
[!!Please note that this was a manipulated roll. This sort of attack would never be in an actual combat experience!!]
Now that he has a critical hit chance, his total MT and STR are doubled! His might was once 10, now it is 20! HIT ME WITH ALL YOU'VE GOT!
"YAAAAHR!"
Deacon's HP: 9/19
HMMM! YES! This is the strength he needed to inflict damage upon me! However, this is an extremely rare opportunity for people of low SKL level, so chances like these tend to be... 1 in a 100? I suppose it varies with each class and level. Regardless, it is now my turn.
1-100
Recruit's HP: 0/17
I simply push the recruit to the ground and hold my lance to his neck! Victory is mine! Very good, young man, I applaud your efforts! NOW GET BACK IN LINE, thank you!
That is it! I do hope this combat tutorial has benefited you!
