"Me goin' after someone else's treasure? Of course I have, and I was successful in getting there up to a point," the old fool began, his mild grin shifting into a wide berth of trickery. Oliander sat upright as though he was never injured in the first place, vocals rising to levels that may as well have sundered mountains, "That day we were near one of those isolated little places, coming back from a good haul. Figured why not make a pit stop on the way! So I began steering in that direction, until a terrible crisis hit me." His mouth remained agape, building up the tension in effort to gain as much of Ethan's attention as possible.
A sigh and huff emanated from the sailor, cringing down and arms folded in a pout, "My crew wouldn't have my stupid little adventure, took the wheel from me, and threw me into my quarters for the rest of the trip."
He took a moment, tapping a finger on his bicep. The captain chuckled and resumed his more pleasant demeanor. Careful attention was placed into the blue haired wanderer's story about the mysterious lady who shows up during a storm, but never found. Oliander gave a nod, "Well now lad, that sounds like a ghost story if I ever heard one. Although long as she isn't getting people hurt it just makes int more interesting to figure out what's going on there. Ghostly pirate ships at seas on the other hand are filled with much more intensity and valor! Maybe I should get you on my ship one of these days and we can go hunt one down."
Booming laughter rushed into the air. Part of the claim was in jest, but the nature of this man meant difficulties figuring out just how much of it was such. A brow quirked again, this time as the mention of sea monsters becoming an issue. The veteran sailor tapped his chin in thought, "HA! Unless it's a storm I know of ahead of time ain't no sea monster is gonna get the best of me. I can tell ya all about the wretches from the deep, ladies who both reward and damn men who wish for nothing more than safe passage, even a living whirlpool that I would gladly cut down with my axe if it meant claiming control of MY ocean. Gahahaha!"
Placing his massive hands on his knees, wide chest in display, another chuckle escaped his grasp, "Course, maybe you just enjoy a leisurely walk on the beach with no sense of adventure. It's fine, you landlubber lot like nice little rides down a stream to the next village or two while I'm out there breathing the entirety of the world." His grin sly, the old bastard hoped his taunt would get some pleasant retort from his companion. Rare were the times he could gather up the local children, regaling tales of his past experiences.
Ethan listened intently. He leaned forward, eating every word, only to sit back when his grand adventure turned out to be nothing. "A minor mutiny? Did you punish anyone? I've heard stories of people getting pushed off planks or being tied to the mast and left to starve to death.Well, then again you don't seem like the type of person to do something like that."
Ethan scratched at his blue hair. "I haven't been on a boat often, but you know what. Sure." He joined with laughter of his own. "I'm always willing to hunt for ghosts. You either prove a mystery false, or gain insight into a this strange ass world of ours. Or you die. SO you know, no big deal." The wanderer laughed.
"While I do lub my land." He said. "I prefer a more hostile environment. Ice Tribe after all. My preferred kind of water is the type you can walk on or the type that chills the skin and leaves you shivering. Rather have ice than water. It just makes me feel more comfortable."

Oliander formed a scowl, giving Ethan a scoff, "Now what kind of man do you think I am allowin' myself or any of my crew to punish someone like that? We aren't pirates, and none of us are keen on becoming a crowd of rowdy criminals anytime soon. Besides, uuuh, if it weren't for my crew treating me like a child sometimes I probably wouldn't get much of the paperwork done." The large man leaned forward, rubbing the back of his head. He was not trying to hide his behavior, as it was too late for that, but the old captain wanted to keep as much concern off his companion as possible.
"Hey, if yer lucky out at sea ya might get to witness a beautiful siren before crashing to your death," he continued, another outburst of laughter echoing through the air. Creating loud noises had the potential to attract more attention to their location, yet, the sailor's volume might just be enough to scare away danger instead of welcoming it. No old man was this cheerful out in the cold wilderness without the power to back it up. Nearby wolfskins might be grateful in some regard due to extra security.
Ethan continued his streak of showing off his lack of seafaring knowledge. The captain's eyes narrowed, his body leaning forward as though trying to get a better grasp of the words being tossed around. "Lad, did you say the sea ain't that hostile? Oh no, no no no. This won't do at all," Oliander said, "Guess we really do need to break you in with being out at sea. The ocean is a much more hostile place than you give it credit. Sharks, pirates, other sailors trying to reel in your catch, and that's not including the sudden storms."
His fingers drummed against his leg all the while giving soul pierce glares. Oliander tried, in true honesty he did, but just could not keep up the act, "Ha! Guess I definitely will have to drag your sorry ass out onto my boat when I'm done. Gahaha! Aside from trying to see who's the stronger man out of us, ya hungry? Brought along some of my recent catch I kept nice and preserved for a meal."
Throughout Oliander's explanation, Ethan only heard one part. "Hold on. You do paperwork? They used to have us do it after every shift. So imagine standing in the same place for about four hours in the night, then having to write a paper that was a minimum of two pages. There's not a whole lot to mention when you're half awake and absolutely nothing is happening. Most of us started writing fake little stories. The higher ups never read them anyways." Ethan laughed. "But if I had an entire crew, I'd make them do the paperwork. I mean think about it. You're the leader, shouldn't you be reading what they said."
Ethan shook his head. "I mean come on. You're in a large boat. I'll give you pirates and sudden storms. We dealt with sudden storms too, but those were only dangerous because you could get lost out in the mountains. But come on. Sharks. You're in a boat. How are sharks going to be a problem? And wouldn't other traders trying to take your catch, just be pirates?"
"Fish? Yeah I wouldn't mind trying it. I was a fisherman back home, but I haven't really had the chance to try any ocean fish yet. You know." Ethan stared off into memory. "We used to have a way of preparing our fish. We'd heat up stones and then set the fish in a small box surrounded by them, sort of like the ovens you guys have out here. It would, um bake them. Then we'd have them over fire for that extra kick. It wasn't bad."

Perhaps some of the old man's one track mind was starting to rub off onto this guy. Regardless of the ongoing banter, paperwork was all that bothered Ethan's thought process. Even still, it got a chuckle out of Oliander, "Much as I would enjoy seeing my crew suffer through all that nonsense, I don't have much of an excuse. The ship is, technically, under my name, so it's gotta be legitimate as possible. Been around docks too often over the years for someone to not recognize whether it's my handwriting. Course, I do make some of the crew record some of the menial tasks such as how much we caught on a particular day."
Some of what the blue haired mercenary brought the captain back to his youth. A few moments of naivety made him inquire to the veterans of the time why a large ship would have issues. Tall tales were a mere part of the reason, but quality of life experiences made sense over time. A sigh escaped the old captain's lips, "Pirates are the easy problem, believe it or not. Sometimes we'd catch a shark or two in our nets, and don't forget maintaining the boat requires us to actually dive into the water. As for storms, we can be blown off course and even have pounding waves destroy our one way to get around, and storms don't care how far you are from land." Oliander rolled his shoulders back, a distinct crack interrupting his pause.
He needed to do some combat related work more often. Getting rusty was never a swell idea.
"Anyways, other traders means we have to negotiate where our nets land, and even divide the catch in one spot. There's only so many fish in the sea, even if it is vast," his graveled voice noted. Adjusting his seated position, the sailor leaned in as his companion spoke of the Ice Tribe's cooking ritual. Baked fish? To him it sounded like an exciting new treat from a foreign land, even if it was still a part of Nohr. Glancing around at his not yet lit campfire, Oliander grinned, "Just so happens I do have some fish, preserved of course, brought along with my camping gear. Haven't gotten a meal yet, so what do you say ya show this old dastard how an Ice Tribe man cooks his fish?"
Unfolding his legs, he pushed his body up, standing at his full height. The campfire needed to be lit still, and he never finished chopping the firewood. Oliander nodded his head towards his tent, "Feel free to look through my stuff and help out a bit. Just don't mess it up too much. Gahahaha!"
"Look at your arms." Ethan listlessly pointed. "I'm sure you can wrap those tree trunks around their necks and strangle the life of them. Or you could just push them back. That's much more realistic." The man sighed, letting his imagination calm before continuing on. "You ever have to do repairs while out at ocean? Like emergency repairs? Never had to deal with that in the hills. In fact, the only thing we'd risk losing and having to repair was our poles. Occasionally the ice would crack, and people would have to move fast, but that wasn't always a problem. We can handle the cold, better than most people in fact, but even we have a limit."
The wanderer pushed his hair out of his eyes. It drifted back often. "When you grow up in a tight knit community, you don't have to deal with stuff like that. Nearly everyone was willing to share. I mean at most, we had a village of no more than one hundred people. We had our share of selfish people, don't think that people in the tribe were perfect. We had our faults." Gray eyes turned deeper into the mountains. He stared passed the verdant trees and into icy peaks. "But greed and I mean real greed. The kind you'd someone for, I didn't see that until I got out here. I guess what I'm trying to say, is I bet you've seen some crazy stuff while out in the ocean, where laws mean nothing."
Ethan stood up, brushing his dirty pants free of dust. There was a sudden life to the man. "Sure. I wouldn't mind. It's been a long time since I've had some. It would be a nice change. Alright. We're going to need some stones. The flatter the better. We want a few for the base and those are the ones we leave in the fire longest. The rest of them can be a bit bulkier."
Stones of varying sizes dotted rough grounds and Ethan went about collecting. His judgement came harsh with multiple rocks being chucked aside. He glanced over. "How do you cook things when sailing? You have a special place for fire so it doesn't burn the ship down?"
