The young man glanced around, as his servant pushed him along, within his wheelchair. The young mage glanced around with a rather annoyed look. "You know where we're headed, correct?" He said, addressing his servant. He seemed quite annoyed, as his servant sheepishly nodded his head. The scholar huffed a bit, he hated this kind of area.
They were headed into the darker, grimier sections of Nohr. They were already within this dirty little city, and Asinine couldn't help but desire not to go alone. It was a shame that he had to keep this meeting under wraps, or he'd have certainly brought reinforcements. As outlawish folk started to be seen left and right, Asinine glanced back.
"Turn into that tavern." He said forcefully, and the man quickly complied, pushing the young scholar inside. Asinine glanced around, at the people inside.
Evelyn hated coming to places like this. They were smelly, and dirty, and she had to keep a hand on her purse for fear of what little money she had getting stolen. Again. She would have felt a little better--safer--if Mortimer had been with her, but even among the dregs of society people tended to frown upon wyverns in buildings. She had been forced to leave him just outside of town, and was keenly aware of his absence.
But beggars couldn't be choosers, and after using the last of her savings to buy some cast-off armor for Mortimer she needed a job badly. Places like this were, unfortunately, the best place to do that. She kept one hand on her purse, the other on her axe, and hoped someone was willing to hire such an unimpressive-looking employee.
Just when she was beginning to think this particular tavern was going to be a bust, the door opened and two newcomer walked--er, walked and was rolled--in. He's so small! she thought, a tad hysterically, as the man in the wheelchair spoke.
She noticed a few of the patrons eying the man like they thought it might be faster to just shake him until the money came out, and with a burst of confidence stood and walked forward. "I am," she said. "Er, I mean, what did you have in mind?"
Asinine's eyes examined the young lady whom had presented herself. Based on appearances, she didn't look the strongest, but she looked like she had the potential to be competent, due to the fact that her appearance seemed somewhat professional, in some ways, at least. At the very least, it bore things resembling that of a uniform.
As the lady approached, with an unfeeling expression, he spoke softly. "I need a bodyguard, to help me retrieve a specific item." This girl didn't look particularly deceitful to him, however, if he was incorrect, he was capable of fighting back. "We could discuss the pay outside?"
A bodyguard? Evelyn could do that. She stood up straight like she had been taught in the academy and nodded. "Of course, sir. Lead the way," she said. Excellent. That sounded much more professional.
Almost as soon as Evelyn stepped outside, there was a loud screech from across the way. She looked up just in time to see Mortimer swoop down from the roof of a nearby building. Not, she noted with some chagrin, the wood where she had left him. At least he was still wearing the armor. She had been worried he would chew through the straps without her there to watch him.
The wyvern landed heavily next to her, causing a few startled townspeople to scatter. "Morty, we talked about this," she reprimanded, but nonetheless reached up to pat his snout. The wyvern merely chuffed and pressed his nose harder against her hand.
Oh, right, employer. Evelyn lowered her hand and turned back to the young man and his servant. "Sorry about Morty," she said. "Ah, I mean, this is my wyvern, Mortimer. We'll be working together to, um, keep you safe."
"Very well." Asinine responded, as he was wheeled forward, the lady following along. Of course, the scholar would rather not discuss payment inside there, where it'd make him an easy target. As the screech made itself heard, Asinine's servant looked in terror, as Asinine didn't even glance over. He knew what a wyvern sounded like, and he also was very aware that if it was an opponent, they have absolutely no resistance to magic.
Asinine finally did glance over, as he saw the girl speak to it. "Mortimer? Alright..." Asinine didn't do anything such as asking her about her own name, but as they moved a bit further away from anyone, he clasped his hands together, as his servant turned him towards her.
"Anyway, the details... I trust you desired such information. I'm willing to pay you 400 pieces of gold, to guard me, and help me obtain an artifact. I'm suspicious, as these people decided they'd wish to meet in the shadiest part of town, to do this deal, but this is very necessary." The young man spoke calmly, his tone having little differentiation the entire time. "Are you willing to help?"
400 gold pieces? That would be enough to recoup the losses from Mortimer's armor with a little left over. And Mortimer alone was usually enough to keep away the riff-raff, so hopefully it would be an easy job, too. Although, the person her prospective employer wanted to meet with would probably chose a building for their rendezvous, and Mortimer didn't do so well in confined spaces, but still...
"We'll do it," she said. If she debated pros and cons all day, they would lose the job and she would be forced to camp out and eat bear meat. Again. At least this way there was a chance she might have a bed and warm food in her future. "When did we need to go?"
"Immediately." The young man spared no time to respond.
He casually allowed himself to be pushed onward by his servant. Most people in his situation, may introduce themselves, or ask the name of the person they're employing, however Asinine didn't really care. The person looked, at the least, somewhat competent to him, and that would have to be good enough.
They headed down alleyways to wherever they were going, the young man was awfully silent, until right before they reached a turn, into another dark alleyway. He spoke quietly, as he glanced over. "If there's more than one person over here, expect a battle."
In that case, it was a good thing Evelyn brought her equipment with her. She motioned for Mortimer to follow and trotted after her employer and his servant.
"Very well, Mister-" Her voice cut off and she half-stumbled. "-Sir." Oh, Great Dusk Dragon, what was his name? Had he introduced himself? Had she? Oh dear. Maybe he hadn't noticed? She schooled her face and kept her mouth shut for the rest of the walk through town. Less chance of embarrassing herself further that way.
Evelyn stopped just to the left of her employer and nodded before glancing around. Mortimer wouldn't be much use in the cramped alleyways where he couldn't fly, but he could at least prevent anyone from sneaking up behind them.
"I'll go first," she said, sotto voce. It would be poor form to lurk behind the person she was supposed to protect, after all. She grabbed her axe with her right hand and peered around the corner, looking to see if they were walking into an ambush after all.
As the lady looked around the corner, it was clearly very dark, a lantern lit up the area of one man, who seemed to be a mage. If one were to observe a bit closer, there were several strange lights, coming somewhere behind the man. Asinine went forward a bit, then glanced at his servant, who walked a few feet back. The young man wheeled himself closer, as the wyvern rider went ahead.
"So?" Asinine's glance showed that he was expectant, but the lantern lit mage snickered menacingly. He honestly didn't seem trustworthy in the least.
"What, you expected me to give you the artifact, when I could get an awful lot more ransom money for you, couldn't I?" A giant spider like being... A Bael, came under the lantern light with the mage.
Asinine sighed, as the opponents prepared to fight.

(Bael: Level 2 HP 12 | STR 8 | MAG 0 | SKL 3 | SPD 3 | DEF 7 | RES 3 Weapon: Bite, MT 5 HIT 80)
The Dark Mage quickly starts an attack, and desiring to remove the bodyguard out of the way, quickly attacks with a fire spell.

The fire quickly hit on, burning against part of the wyvern rider.

Asinine quickly started to motion his hands to send a spell towards the bael

The fire easily got on, and the spider rapidly tried to rub it off, taking a while before making its first attack.
Evelyn hissed as the fireball caught her in the shoulder. Deciding the Dark Mage was the bigger threat, she reared back and swung at him with her axe.

"Take that," she snarled as the weapon connected with the mage's flesh. Behind her, she heard Mortimer shriek, but as she feared it seemed like he couldn't be much help in the narrow alley.
Evelyn yelped as the Bael bit her. She half turned and swung at it, trying to make it at least let go.

The axe hit with enough force to drive the Bael back, but not quite hard enough to kill it. Evelyn backed toward her charge, trying to keep her eyes on both combatants. She'd kill for a Vulnerary right about now, but at least she was doing an OK job as a meat shield.
With the Bael out of the way, Evelyn threw herself at the dark mage.

Her swing went a bit wide, but connected against his torso just the same. She yanked the axe back and stepped to the side, hopefully giving Asinine a better shot to finish the bleeding mess of a mage off.
Asinine quietly raised his hand out, as to shoot a flame at their opponent.

But as he tried to start up a flame, it went half the distance to the opponent, and then... It fizzled out? He glanced at his hand in annoyance.
But just as he glanced back up, the dark mage attempted to take out his easier target.

Asinine released he screwed up big, as flames hit against the girl. She wasn't dead, but clearly unable to fight.
(Eveyln's is unable to fight.)
He had to finish this quickly, usually all his strength, he sent out one last powerful flame.
1-100 (Must be under 90)
The opponent was swiftly incinerated, and the young man rolled himself quickly to the girl.
(Opponent is dead.)
"Are you okay?" He asked, his tone having maybe a tinge of concern, it wasn't much, but it wasn't his usual monotone voice... He would've been captured without her, but now she had to bear the brunt of this last minute failure.
He may have to bring her to where he lived, then she could have her treated...
