The thunder that was loosed from Markus’ tome seared forward with a purple glow, sparks flashing with raucous, uninhibited energy. It sped past the two bandits instantaneously and crashed into the brigand toward the back. In but a moment, his entire body flashed with light, his bulbous hair spreading outward with a magnificent pop. His body shook with the coursing electricity, arms appearing to gyrate as his body absorbed the destructive energy.
But it was not enough. The energy that had been left over snapped into the next closest metal object, being the axes in the hands of the two other bandits. The heat in the iron caused the crude wood to ignite, and upon noticing it, the two dropped their weapons in a panic for fear of being licked by the flames.
As for the bandit who was struck by the lightning, he collapsed in a steaming heat, his hair far poofier than before.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a second!” the straight-haired bandit cried and dropped to his knees with hands waving desperately in the air, “Stop! Cease! Parley!”
The other brigand also dropped to his knees in kind and began blocking his face timidly.

Odette had landed hard enough to knock the wind out of her, even being used to moving around in heavy plate sometimes it took her by surprise. And so, by the time she had managed to get herself back to her feet, the rest of the group had already managed to apparently subdue the bandits who had been attacking the old couple. With a grunt of annoyance, one of the few verbalisations she had ever manifested, the young woman approached the group, head tilted slightly.
Unwilling to speak, she instead leaned forward slightly, doing her best to emanate a threatening aura to the bandits as she loomed over them. If they tried anything funny, now that they were waving the white flag, she would be more than happy to shred them with magic. For now, however, she would be more than content to let them grovel. A part of her father in her, she supposed.

To be honest, Cassius wasn't outright all that sure about how he and Erdrick were going to stealth this. I mean, he was wearing armor... And there was a wyvern that would have to sneak too. But he supposed he would have to try. Staying on Erdrick's back so as not to let his own movements cause his armor to make noise, he would direct Erdrick to begin to slowly creepy to the side, hoping to flank and ambush the bandits.
Unfortunately, their stealthy approach was halted when one of their number would rush them. Cassius let out a low growl in irritation, but it wasn't long before the remaining bandits had given up. Cassius hadn't needed to swing a blade or anything. While it was partly a relief to know it was handled this easily, he also couldn't help but be annoyed that he had been unable to do anything.
"Your parlay is accepted" Cassius remarked as he hopped off Erdrick's back and drew his sword, pointing it toward the bandits. "Get out of here."
His gaze pierced into them, as his expression turned hard and stern.
"One wrong move, or if I see you doing this again... And I'll kill you. One and only warning."
Markus looked at the bandit he'd downed with astonishment. Had he really done that? The sparks from his hands told no lie... How could he be so powerful?! Perhaps that had just been luck... Yes, that had to be it. It seemed to have done the trick, though, given that the bandits were now begging for their lives. The young mage outstretched his still-sparking hand menacingly.
"We won't be merciful, I can tell you that much. You can't expect us to let you get away with attacking the innocent like this."
With frantic nods, the two bandits lifted the unconscious one off the ground, then ran off into the nearby forest.
Meanwhile, Monty spoke to the older couple, both speaking gratefully to him.
“Right, glad we could be of assistance,” said he with a nod, “I apologize for the inconveniences that lot caused.”
“Well, hopefully they’ll learn their lesson from this!” said the old man gruffly, “Seems like those kids are ready to take heads!”
“Geordie, I wouldn’t call them kids,” the old woman chuckled, “They’re students of the monastery, you know. They’ve a bit of renown behind them!”
Monty made a short glance to the old woman.
“That so!” the old man exclaimed, he turned himself to the younger individuals spread across the field, “Not too shabby, youngins! If I was your age, I would’ve whipped those boys into shape all by myself!” The old woman gently nudged him on his side and whispered something in his ear. “Haha, I was getting to that, honey! Let me give you kids a little something for your trouble.” He removed his backpack, set it down, and opened it.
[The party receives Vulnerary x3!]
“Hope that helps!” said old man jovially, “Anyway, we’ve got an appointment at the monastery! So long, kids!”
The old woman bows as well, “We hope to meet you again. Take care, dears, and thank you for your help.” And so, the couple resumed their path to the monastery, and at the same time, Montgomery called everyone to attention.
“Right, let me point out some things,” he said with furrowed brows. His eyes stared directly at Slaine, “You do not, I repeat, do not engage without first securing the safety of innocent civilians. If you had missed your shot, you could’ve killed someone unintentionally! Secondly, this goes for all of us, we need to do better communication on what each of us are planning beforehand so we don’t get any mixups or sudden shifts in the plan.”
The professor spoke up, “Monty, the latter could use some further discourse. Nothing goes according to plan most of the time, and discussing smaller details of what people must do would shorten the amount of time you have to react to an unfolding situation.“
The patrolman rolled his neck and sighed, “Fine, maybe that’s a nitpick. Overall, the situation was dealt with, and we have some vulneraries to supplement us in case we get in a bad way. Let’s get back on our route, we’ve a little ways to go yet.” As he spoke, he flung his arm in the air as a signal for them to move out.

The warning was heeded it seemed, and the bandits ran off. At the least, the older couple was safe. With that in mind, Cassius' gaze darted toward the idiot who had completely blown their cover -- on purpose at that when they had specifically stated stealth was necessary to preserve the lives of innocents. While Cassius was no soldier type, he had been stressed of the importance of keeping civilians safe. Even if you happened to not be a very virtuous, innocent protecting type... It's very possible they could be related to the client, and so prioritize them if you want to get anywhere in this line of work, his father had always told him.
Rushing in like that and potentially getting them killed was a big no no unless absolutely necessary. Cassius opened his mouth to give the dimwitted, green lout a piece of his mind. This wasn't a lesson, people's lives were at stake and this stupid, pious, selfish noble had nearly gotten them killed, and for what? Ego? Glory to their stupid noble family or something like that? He didn't know the woman, and after this he didn't think he wanted to. It was a stupid mistake that should have been hammered out of her spoiled rotten head on the first day. Prioritize innocents. They were being taught to be of use to their respective lords, yes? Then why wasn't this being taught straight up? Why did it take this long, when someone almost died, for this lesson to be hammered in?
He had been about to yell when one of the older ones beat him to it. After the discourse that followed, he just shook his head and started to move out. Though not before turning to them.
"Leaving their egos at the door and prioritizing the people "below" them should have been lesson one the minute we walked in."
Their saving grace was that the couple was safe. If they had died, there would have been no stop to what he had to say. He motioned for Erdrick to move beside him, and the wyvern trudged along to catch up with him. He decided to walk for now. The exercise he supposed would do him some good when he was fuming.
