About
Profession: Student of the Officers Academy, Black Eagle House
Alliance or Fódlan House: N/A
Hometown: Unknown
Likes: Meat, training, reading, jokes, animals
Dislikes: Laziness, lying, politics, vegetables, senseless violence and cruelty, impracticality
Personality: Cassius is incredibly hard-working and dedicated to his craft, though can overwork himself to exhaustion. In his eyes, his father threw away his chance of being able to settle down and have a more peaceful life in order to afford sending him to the Academy so that he might succeed, and it would be a disgrace to his honor to fail him by not excelling. He is intense in training, and may not even see those around him. He is even intense in his reading, whether it is for the sake of training or fiction that he becomes invested in.
This does not mean he is unsociable, of course, for neglecting his peers and refusing to make connections would also be considered a waste of the time and money spent to bring him here. While Cassius is quiet and stone serious on the surface, when he opens up is when the warmer side of Cassius' personality comes out. He is open and honest about things, and enjoys cracking a few jokes for the sake of making people smile. He is well-intentioned and it is rare for there to exist even the smallest of malicious bones in his body. And he will very much go out of his way for someone that needs it.
In battle, the gloves come off and Cassius is a ferocious fighter. His experience on the field lends him keen battling instincts, but also a sense of paranoia from being on the battlefield from a young age. This paranoia can also extend outside of battle. But when on the field, Cassius is goal oriented and will do whatever it takes to get the job done. This leads him to being just as reckless on the battlefield though, as he is in training. Something that could very easily get him killed if he's not careful. He is a tactical man, always doing his best to plan on the fly. But he can overthink things sometimes too. He is close with his battling wyvern, Erdrick, and dotes on him.
Biography: To be honest, Cassius has no idea where he is from. Nor does he know who his father, Caspian, was before becoming a mercenary. He had asked, but his father either didn't want to talk about it, or simply no longer remembered. Either way, it wasn't relevant to their situation, and thus wasn't important enough to pursue. All he really knew was that he spent his first twelve years in a cottage with his mother and father, and at thirteen his mother was no longer there and the cottage wasn't either. He and his father traveled around Fodlan and other countries, his father taking mercenary work to keep them both fed. As the years went on, Cassius learned to wield a sword and joined his father in the mercenary business. But his father wanted more for Cassius, more than just fighting to survive and to put food on his table with no end in sight.
At some point in their travels, they had come across an abandoned egg from a nest of wyverns that had been driven out. Not able to stomach just leaving it there, Cassius obtained Caspian's blessing to take it with them. While it was difficult to feed the wyvern that hatched at times, they were able to make it work. Over time, Cassius and Erdrick bonded and became a ferocious team as Cassius began to pursue the battling style of a Wyvern Rider.
Unbeknownst to Cassius, his father had been steadily beginning to put away a percentage of their earnings. When Cassius realized it, he had suspected that perhaps his father had finally decided to work toward finding them a new home, as he had talked about over the campfire many times. A chance to settle down once more and not have to spend their entire lives fighting for coin just to survive and to put food on their table. When the time came though, his father unexpectedly spent a great deal in order to send Cassius to the Officer's Academy in Fodlan. Taken aback, he initially tried to refuse, knowing that his father would be giving up any chance of accomplishing his dream anytime soon. But Caspian's mind was made up. Even if that meant continuing this cycle on his own, he was intent on ensuring that his son did not have to live this way any longer.
With that, Cassius was sent to the Officer's Academy where he joined the Black Eagle House. Dedicating himself passionately to his work, Cassius didn't know just yet what he intended to do with what he learned here. But he knew that he would figure it out eventually, and work hard every day until he found it. His goal? Not only did he intend to graduate while becoming one of the greatest combatants that Fodlan had ever seen, but he intended to somehow, someway find a way to make a serious living for himself, and for his father as well. In his eyes, it was the best, if not the only way to repay him for what he had done. His father had given him a great gift, and he would repay it in kind. No matter what it takes.
