Little towns weren't places Koume enjoyed staying in. Everyone knew each other too well and was always in the other's business. If something went missing the eyes never went to one of them, but the stranger who showed up in town just the day before. Little towns were meant for quick rests or quick money. Whether it was the former or the latter, not even a mortal wound could keep the young Wolfskin there for more than a single day. This was a strict rule she followed down to the letter. Until now, that is.
Koume peeked into the windows of the sleeping homes. Her eyes focused in the dim light while her nose traced the scents that lingered in the air. She frowned before quietly moving onto the next home. The town wasn't large by any stretch of the imagination yet her search for one man had taken her more hours than she had anticipated. A tiny grunt disturbed the stillness as Koume pulled herself up to the next window's level. Sections of her arms and around her neck throbbed in the duration her held herself up. It took no longer than a few seconds before the house was clear and her feet touched the ground again. Her fingers gently rubbed at the dark colors that stained on her skin; her wrists, her biceps, her throat. The throbbing slowed with her heart and not wanting to linger, the girl continued to the last few houses.
It had been a while since she had smelled what she was looking for, but she was sure that the way it hung in the air meant she was close. Living without her satchel was more difficult than she'd care to admit. Her food, her medicine, her money, her treasures; everything had been placed in there for safe keeping. Of course, nothing is ever safe for long from a big stupid jerk with a big mouth that loudly boasted about the new Wolfskin pelt he was gonna have by the end of the day. The man didn't get his pelt. Instead he got his eye slashed by her sharp nails. That earned her a smack across her face and a blooming bruise on her cheekbone.
As the scent got closer, her hands began to shake. The emotions that began to brew were strong but without names. She was angry. She was humiliated. She was, most embarrassing of all, afraid. A deep breath was taken before she began climbing into the open window.
"As most of you already know, I, Count Oorne have been attacked by one of those half-beasts for no reason other than the beast seemed to have just felt like it.. So I'm hiring the six of you to protect me since I am sure it will come back to try and kill me!"
As that is said one of the other mercenaries would speak up. "So your saying that you want the six of us to fight off on-" As they were speaking the count would interrupt them. "No! I want you to kill the creature due to what it did to me and will no doubt do to others as well if someone doesn't take care of it." Bringing a hand to his face where several claw marks could be seen he'd sigh somewhat dramatically. "As I'm sure you no doubt saw I was a victim of the monster. But luckily there were some healers nearby else I would have most definitely been blind or even half-blind at the best... So whichever one of you kills it and brings me their hide. I will pay five-thousand gold to!"
Letting that announcement hang in the air on how much the mercs could earn five of them would seem pretty excited at the prospect of that much gold, and for most missions involving a single beast person would have only gotten two-thousand at the most. So as they figure out some things among themselves a cloaked merc, that was leaning against a wall, would just look at everyone from under his hood and sigh lightly.
Present Time...
As Koume would finish climbing through the window a cloaked figure would make himself known from a corner of the darkened room. "... It seems that what the man said could happen, did after all... That's a shame." Even though what was said could sound hostile to some, there was no hostility that could be heard in his voice or seen in his stance as he made no motion to attack or even move from his spot. "There are five others here along with me.. So I suggest being careful since you have a price of five thousand gold on your head for your death young one."

The voice stilled her for a moment before she turned to the source. Koume lowered herself, ready to attack if need be, but the pain caused by her stance echoed in her face. Her quickening heartbeat filled the silence in her ears, then brought the throbbing back to her bruises. Even with her vision, it was hard to make out the figure in the room's corner. She kept her face as impassive as possible. Easier said that done, she discovered too late.
"The real shame is you listening and believing a word that giant idiot said." The wolfskin winced as she spoke. Her hushed voice was rough. Still strained from when the man attempted to strangle her. She managed a slight grin at the price; it was the highest bounty she wore yet. For that price, she would've turned herself in just like that.
"That's a big price for me, even if I am a Wolfskin. What's the deal, he charging extra because I hurt his dumb ego? Maybe I did everyone a service and blinded him." She mused to herself as she listened for any approaching noises. Now in the clear, Koume turned her attention back to the cloaked figure.
"What is this, some kind of trick? Why aren't you trying to capture me? Are you scared I'll do to you what I did to your precious boss? Or are you just buying time until your stupid friends get here? Spit it out, before I do more than blind you."
Chuckling lightly he'd stay in his relaxed position. "Who ever said I believed what the beast of a human told me?" Saying the word human with a bit of hate in his voice, the cloaked figure would move his hand upward away from the sword at his side before pulling the hood back and showing his kitsune features, easily seen even in the darkness of the room.
"After all. Any smart Kitsune, Wolfskin or whatever else other than humans, would know to never readily trust humans with their words." Stating this as if it's a fact he'd still stay in place so as not to appear as a threat to the wary Wolfskin. "So that would be why I'm not trying to capture or kill you. I despise humans like that man.. And hate four of the five other mercenaries that are here. The last I am neutral towards. So I don't mind either way if any of them are to die or not in the re-possession of your belongings."
Yawning lightly he'd close his eyes, a thing no enemy would ever do unless they were sure the opponent couldn't hurt them, showing that he is basically on her side or just very cocky. "So now I ask you a question. Will you be doing this alone against those other mercenaries, or will you be doing this with a temporary ally youngling."

Koume's stance didn't falter, but to say she was ready to pounce would be a lie. If she were able to laugh at his words, she would've. She knew that any race that weren't human were very hesitant to trust the latter. Koume herself had many reason to be wary of them. Hearing someone else speak that, however, filled her with a strange sense of validation. Still, the more he spoke the more the situation began to confuse her.
If the Kitsune hated a major of his party, why bother to stick around? Kitsune and Wolfskin, despite their differences, shared a common power. Even if he wasn't killing all of them, five humans wouldn't have caused a problem for one kitsune, right? The yawn drew Koume out of her thoughts.
The Kitsune must've really put faith in his little speech working. Either that, or he was incredibly stupid. Considering who he was in front of at the moment, the wolfskin guessed 'incredibly stupid'. It would've been easy to kill him then and there. Do it quick. Do it clean. Move on. She didn't need help, and for him to ask such a question caused her temper to flare.
As her temper rose, so did the pain dotting her body. The pain kept her grounded, reminded her to breathe, before she frowned. As much as she wanted to do this alone, her body fought against her mind. This was one of the instances where she wished her body would beat her thoughts. Koume sighed then slowly adjusted herself so that she stood.
"Only because you might be of use. You know those people, and you might know where my treasures are. It's only for that reason I'll letting you be my ally." The wolfskin frowned before she continued, "And don't close your eyes in front of someone like that. It's stupid.."
