Kenta scratched the back of his head and sniffed sharply, a contemplative look shown on his face. Eventually, he let out a long, discomforted sigh. “I still don’t know about this...”
”Not every new challenge is easy to undertake,” spoke the matron, ”But once you are within it, things will become clearer. You simply must take the first, uncomfortable step into it. I have no doubt that your journey of blood will be a long and challenging one, but it is now one you cannot refuse.”
Can’t refuse it, huh...
“Well...” the wolfskin sighed, “We’re in this mess then.” He glanced to Lulu and flashed a toothy smile, “Alright, it’s you ‘n’ me, now! I’m gonna get stronger beatin’ down every punk that wants a piece of your skin, and that’ll make you safer, right?!”
Lulu let out a soft, shy giggle at Kenta's sudden change of mood.
"Very well. I'm happy to have you along!" She smiled warmly before turning to the mother wolf. "I'm sorry for getting him wrapped up in all of this... And for taking him from you. I promise that I won't let any harm befall him." She then turned back to Kenta. "I think we're gonna have to teach you how human society works, big guy." She giggled once more.
*Yawn...* W-what's with the look?! Hmph... Stupid humans.
“Hah! I’ve lived with a human once,” Kenta exclaimed as he stuck his chest out proudly, “How hard could it be?”
”Kitsune, I will be frank. I am certain that harm will befall him,” the matron stood back up, ”But what will not kill him will make him stronger.”
Kenta let out a quiet shudder, “Geez, ma, that’s pretty morbid.”
”I am a realist. Go now, dear one. Take care that you do not die.” The wolf turned around and walked back down the river, disappearing behind a cliff.
“Man,” Kenta grunted with a fold of his arms, “Talk about a downer. Whatever! Let’s get going before I bring trouble where it don’t need to be!” Lulu Aurelis
Lulu nodded silently and began to lead the way, gesturing for Kenta to follow her. She let out a soft sigh.
"I'm... I'm sorry you had to save me... If you hadn't, you could've stayed here with them..." She said defeatedly. "That wolf... Did she raise you?" Lulu was curious as to how a Wolfskin had ended up in Hoshido in the first place... She was fairly certain that their species was native to Nohr... But she was sure that she'd find out eventually, now that they'd be traveling and living together.
*Yawn...* W-what's with the look?! Hmph... Stupid humans.
“First off, don’t feel bad. It felt like the right thing to do,” said Kenta with a shrug of his shoulders, “Second, Ma adopted me into the family a couple winters ago when I washed up on the river back there. She taught me how to hunt in the wild here, but... yeah, I was actually raised by an old fisherman way further up the river. Adopted me and taught me how to fish. He already died probably... five or something winters ago? I was on my own for a while.”
He picked up a rock from the ground as they came up into the forest, “Hmm... uh... so, that thing you were doing earlier when we were in town... what was that for, anyway?” Lulu Aurelis
"O-o-oh! Um..." Lulu blushed heavily and brushed her hair out of her face. "W-well... I'm a professional dancer... I'm doing it to spread my popularity, but..." She lowered her voice. "Moreso, I'm trying to promote peace between Nohr and Hoshido. I'm just sick of all this talk of war... I haven't seen much of it myself, but I know people who've lost family members in battle... And I don't wanna see that happen to anyone else. Does... That make sense?"
*Yawn...* W-what's with the look?! Hmph... Stupid humans.
Professional dancer? Popularity? War between Nohr and Hoshido?
It was as if one could hear the wind blow through the hollow tree that was his mind. None of what she said made much sense to him.
Kenta itched the tip of his nose, his lips forming a straight, tight line on his face.
“... Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...” his drawl was long and dumb, and at one point, he began to nod his head slowly, “... Uhhhh, sure, I guess that makes sense. So you dance and it makes people not want to fight anymore? How does that all work? I don’t get it.” Lulu Aurelis
"Well, it's long and complicated..." She said. "See, I was raised in Cyrkensia... Which is a city in Nohr's territory. But I'm a kitsune... Which is a race native to Hoshido. By performing in both kingdoms equally, I'm hoping it will open people's minds a bit to the idea of coexisting with the other kingdom... Does that make any sense to you?"
*Yawn...* W-what's with the look?! Hmph... Stupid humans.
Kenta sniffed sharply and cleared his throat as he tossed the rock in his hand into an indiscriminate direction, "Well, uh, alright. Coexisting. Yeah, that sounds like fun." He stuck his hands on the sides of his pants and sighed, "... Dancing to help people coexist. That's kind of fun."
Somehow.
There was a part of her explanation he was still missing.
"What's the reason why they ain't coexisting now?" he asked, "If you haven't noticed, I've lived in the wilds for a loooooooong time and never bothered about what's going on out here." Lulu Aurelis
"Oh, so you don't know about the war..." She said solemnly, and sighed. "Well... About 18 years ago... King Garon of Nohr led King Sumeragi of Hoshido into a trap... He was angered because Hoshido wouldn't share it's plentiful lands with the Nohrians, but this was only because of Nohr's hostility toward Hoshido in the past... And so Garon murdered Sumeragi in cold blood, sparking a war between the two countries. Queen Mikoto of Hoshido set up a magical barrier between the two that prevented soldiers of Nohr from invading Hoshido, but... Queen Mikoto died a while ago and the barrier fell..."
*Yawn...* W-what's with the look?! Hmph... Stupid humans.
Kenta's ear flicked straight up as his eyes began to bug out, "Wait, so there's been a war going on for eighteen years?!" He swung his arms up in the air, "What the heck! Something like that should've given a bigger splash around here! Man..."
He folded his arms and let out a long, flustered sigh, "Man, oh, man, oh, man... things'r worse than I thought... well, not to worry yourself then." He pointed to himself with his thumb and flashed a toothy smile, "I'll watch your back as best I can. Ain't nobody gonna sneak in and give us a hard time! Not while I'm sticking to your back like a thistle!" Lulu Aurelis
Lulu giggled softly at your remark and planted a soft kiss on his cheek.
"I'm sure you will. And I am really, truly grateful for it. Now then... What do you know of human society, Kenta?" I asked curiously. "I'm sure there's quite a bit you may not know..."

Friendly kitsune, wasn’t she. The pups back home gave him plenty of that affectionate display, therefore (as he then deduced) she was likely trying to be friendlier toward him. How nice!
“Hah!” the wolfskin slapped his knee with gusto, “I know enough to get around on! Don’t you worry about me! I’ll fit in like a trees in a forest” Thus, the two headed back to Kitsuki, and despite the words he had spoken, he had much to learn, indeed.
