As soon as Lulu returned backstage, the sight that greeted her was terrifying. A group of armed men were facing off against a wolfskin... One that looked all too familiar.
"K-Kenta?!" Lulu cried out in shock... Then, she noticed the boy watching from afar. If the brigands noticed him... Lulu wouldn't let them take him. After quickly digging into one of the tents she pulled out her bronze sword in its sheath and drew it. She hadn't been in combat often... But that didn't mean she was unprepared. Lulu rushed for the boy, attempting to get him to safety.
*Yawn...* W-what's with the look?! Hmph... Stupid humans.
In his excitement, Ichiro had failed to notice the approaching bandit until he had actually stood over him.
“U... uwah...” the boy trembled, his eyes widened in fear, “You... you’re Tamura the Skinner...”
Tamura chuckled darkly at the mention of his name, “Yeah... you’ve got that right, brat. So, listen up, you ‘n’ me are gonna be best friends.”
“J...” Ichiro stammered as fear paralyzed his legs, “JUMBO!”
The wolfskin’s head raised and turned to see the bandit reaching out to grab the boy. With a metallic roar, the wolfskin tore off the cloak from his head, revealing his true nature. Tamura’s shoulders jolted up as he turned.
“A... a wolfskin!” he nearly gasped. However, in the corner of his vision, he saw another approaching figure, his original target: the kitsune. His quarry was walking right to him.
“C’mere, sweetheart!” Tamura exclaimed as he began swinging his katana at her, “Transform! Show me that beast inside of you!” He hopped backwards seizing Ichiro by his yukata, “Do it, or the kid DIES!” Lulu Aurelis
Lulu screeched to a halt as Tamura seized the child.
"You... You monster..." She spat. "The world has no place for men like you..." She turned and made eye contact with Kenta, trying to convey the message for him to get on the other side of him... Just like the two of them had done earlier that day with the boar.
"But..." She continued. "I will do as you ask... But only in exchange for you sparing the child's life. You'll hold up your end of the bargain... Or perish." Lulu clutched her beaststone and, in a flash of light, revealed her massive, vulpine form.
*Yawn...* W-what's with the look?! Hmph... Stupid humans.
Tamura sported a crazed smile as he pulled Ichiro closer to himself, his blade pressing against the boy’s neck.
“It’s too bad...” he smirked cruelly, “I’m just a scumbag.”
Perfect... just perfect... if she would just lunge, I could easily dispatch her...
Tamura’s eyes were so fixated upon Lulu that he failed to realize the huge shadow over his person.
Kenta had read the message in Lulu’s eyes. He quickly disappeared behind the tents, bounding over the dividing cloth wall. Even with his great form, he pulled his body in, stalking low to the ground until he had reached his prey.
Then, the wolfskin’s hand wrapped around Tamura’s wrist, pulling it the other direction, making a gratifying crunch. The sword was dropped on the ground, the brigand let out a scream of pain and his body was lifted off of the ground by his torso.
“Lulu, Ichiro,” the wolfskin’s metallic voice huffed, “... uh... I think it's best that you forget about me and be happy.”
“N-NO!! RELEASE MEEEEE!!!” Tamura screamed, pounding on the wolfskin’s wrists in futility.
The beast turned around to face the other direction, then with his powerful legs, curled in and bounded up onto a rooftop.
Ichiro blinked, then turned himself to Lulu with his arms raised, “... What does he mean by ‘forget?!’”
Lulu watched the entire scene unfold, stunned as to what she was witnessing. There was no way that the man would live to see another day, that much was certain. Lulu turned Ichiro away from the carnage as Kenta dove back into the forest.
"You see..." Lulu began, shifting back into her human self. "Kenta here isn't human... He's a wolfskin... I don't know why he'd want us to forget him, though..." She said with a shy. She'd wanted to thank Kenta for rescuing her... But now he'd ran off so quickly that she didn't even have a chance. "Do you know where your parents are? Or do I need to help you find them?" She asked kindly. She'd deal with the child first... Then go looking for Kenta.
*Yawn...* W-what's with the look?! Hmph... Stupid humans.
“I’ll be okay,” Ichiro responded with a wave of his hands, “I know this town pretty well, but I think you should go after him...” He folded his arms, “... maybe... and maybe convince him not to go away forever. Jumbo-kun is a nice guy! I think he wanted to protect you from those bandits!”
All the while, Kenta had bounded building after building with the brigand in hand, eventually reaching the edge of the town before bounding into the forest with Tamura dangling by his broken arm.
Eventually, the wolfskin tossed the injured man onto the ground, then began circling him.
“H-h-hey!” Tamura stammered while nursing his twisted arm, “W-we could work something out, big guy! You like meat? I can get you tons and tons of it if you let me go! We can negotiate, right? Right?!”
Kenta emanated a low gurgling growl before he stopped moving. Knuckles and joints began to crack as he pressed his feet and hands into the soil.
“... No, NO! You ANIMALS! I’M GONNA SKIN EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU! DON’T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?! I’M TAMURA THE—“
With a vicious roar, Kenta pounced upon Tamura and tore his body to pieces. There were no human witnesses to this violent display of justice. Lulu Aurelis
After staying to converse with her fans in the reception, which she was required to do in order to establish good relations, she started off for the forest where she'd met Kenta the first time... So much had happened to do... She had to see him, at least one more time before she left the city... She'd hoped to be able to convince him to come with her, in fact. He would make a good traveling companion... If not a friend. And so, when she reached the edge of the forest, she transformed into her full fox form in order to make searching for him easier. She sniffed at the air for his familiar scent... But instead she instantly found something much more pungent- the odor of blood. After a moment of consideration she began to follow it... She was sure that it was the blood of that poacher whom Kenta had killed...
*Yawn...* W-what's with the look?! Hmph... Stupid humans.
Perhaps in some ways that was true in the long run.
But here? When the dust was settled and the end of a conflict was over, it was really another life that had to be taken.
Maybe that’s what Lulu felt when she killed the boar.
Yet, this... this was different. As Lulu had entreated her fans, time had passed. The bandits who had mercilessly slain the soldiers guarding the backstage were executed away from public eye, their heads put on display in brutal, traditional fashion by the riverbed outside of town.
Where Lulu had gone was the scene of Tamura’s demise, and off to the side, a little plot of turned soil was where his mangled body lay, grave unmarked and undeserving. Nevertheless, there was a trail of blood that led deep into the forest, further than where the two had been fated to meet.
It would lead Lulu to a cliff, where there was a steep incline leading to a river at the very bottom. Within the river was Kenta, still in his monstrous form, sitting inside of the water and allowing Tamura’s blood to wash from himself downstream. Lulu Aurelis
Lulu followed the scent of the blood to the horrific scene where Tamura had been mauled... She didn't have any sympathy for him, as she had with the boar. This... Vile man had deserved it, where as the boar had been an innocent creature. Still... The sight wasn't pretty, that much was certain. She held back the bile rising in her throat as she noticed the trail of blood... Smelling it, she was able to find a hint of Kenta's all-too-familiar scent, though it was hard to determine after being mixed in with the overpowering scent of Tamura's blood. Slowly, she began to follow the trial, Kenta's scent becoming stronger as she did. Soon enough she approached the cliff, which overlooked the river where Kenta cleaned his canine form. Silently, Lulu hopped down the cliff in hops onto each stable jut of rock, eventually making it to the ground once more. Once there, she sat on her haunches and looked into the river.
"Kenta..."
*Yawn...* W-what's with the look?! Hmph... Stupid humans.
There was a flash of light as the wolfskin’s monstrous body transformed back, leaving a blood-soaked, half-naked semi-human sitting in the water. He was facing toward the river, his back to Lulu.
For a while, he said nothing and simply rubbed himself clean of the blood on his person. However, as he washed his ears, the red stain did not leave.
“... Huh,” he muttered. The wolfskin dunked his head underwater and rubbed his ears vigorously, but to no avail. The stain remained upon the fur of his ears.
At that time, a large wolf silently walked along the edge of the bank, seeming to pay no mind to the kitsune present. She sat down by the dry bed, observing the wolfskin as he attempted in futility to wash the red marks from his ears.
”Kitsune.” The voice emanated from the wolf, and even more, her eyes had shifted to meet with Lulu’s. ”I take it that he succumbed to rage today?” Lulu Aurelis
Lulu watched the wolf pad toward the two of them and, when she spoke, Lulu flinched slightly.
"I... Um... Yes... Some poachers came in an attempt to capture and skin me..." She whimpered, and thought Just like my parents were... "He came to save me... And took their leader into the forest before mauling him." She sighed and looked at him. "Is that what those red marks are from?"
*Yawn...* W-what's with the look?! Hmph... Stupid humans.
The wolf bowed her head, “Yes. The spilling of human blood holds greater consequence than that of an animal, even in justice. His ears bear testament that he has taken the life of a human. It is difficult to admit, but we wolves live in fear of mankind.” She motioned her nose to Kenta, “A wolf who takes the life of a human is one who should be regarded with dread and foreboding.”
“What, so I’m supposed to be scarier now that I killed a human?” the wolfskin snorted. “What a bunch of pig ribs.”
“That is why the Blood Bear is feared, even by humans,” was the response, “It is unnatural for the wild to hunt humans.”
“Ugh, whatever…” Kenta groaned and dragged himself back to shore. His eyes fell onto Lulu, “And man, you sure don’t listen! I mean, I didn’t tell you not to follow me, but heck, forget! I thought it’d be easier to just kind of forget about everything that happened, man, but here you are!” His pupils had a different appearance. They were sharper in appearance and more feral. Lulu Aurelis
Lulu stepped closer to Kenta as he shouted at her.
"Kenta..." She began slowly. "I came here because I care for you. I don't want to forget you..." She slowly shifted into her human self. "I know you only killed that man because you wanted to protect that child and I... Please... Don't go." She reached out slowly and put a gentle hand on his cheek. "I don't want you to go..."
*Yawn...* W-what's with the look?! Hmph... Stupid humans.
Well, maybe it was because he was chilled from the water. Still this was an interesting experience.
"Hmph," his cheeks puffed out, "I ain't going anywhere. Why would I leave from this place?" He raised himself back and lifted his arms both ways to and from the river, "This is my home! This whole place! I got my family to look after and everything!"
"Kenta... I'm afraid that will have to change."
The wolfskin's ear twitched as his gaze fell on the matron wolf, "Huh?"
"A bloodied wild animal is one that is cursed by nature, and one that cannot but live in isolation."
Kenta's brows knit together sorrowfully as his ears drooped to the side. "... You mean... I can't stay here anymore?"
"That is so, dear one. Your presence will attract others who have bloodied their teeth with humans, and in their years of isolation, they've lived to fend for themselves to great effect, and in turn, they have grown much more powerful. Our family would be annihilated if you stayed here."
"But I can protect them!" Kenta exclaimed, "I'm also bloodied, right?!"
"Sigh... you did not understand what I said earlier? They grew stronger in isolation, whereas you, dear one, just became bloodied today."
"Urgh..." Kenta groaned once again, "So, now what?"
"... Go from this place, perhaps travel with the kitsune. Do not stay in one place for any great length of time."
The wolfskin glanced to Lulu and scratched the back of his head. "Go with Lulu...? What makes that a good idea?" Lulu Aurelis
"Well..." Lulu thought for a moment. She was planning on inviting Kenta to travel with her, but this... It was different. She didn't want him to be forced to leave his home...
"Well, the only reason you became... 'bloodied' or whatever is because you were trying to protect me... right? So it's the least I can do to offer you a place with us. Plus, I doubt that that will be the final attempt on my life... There's bound to be more. It'd be nice to have your help defending myself.
