Slow them down. Sure. Lydia knew she was more agile than most of the others here. That was something natural to the elven woman. She hadn't had time to respond to the quip before an explosion rocked the camp. It was foolish to be fighting amongst themselves. She took a few steps to the kitsune woman with her staff ready, but faltered. This had been punishment and healing her now could be seen out of line. Lydia didn't exactly wish to be on the receiving end of an explosion. But this woman would he foolish to do so.
Instead her attention turned to a new arrival to the group. Late, but at least she had showed up in the end.
Leliana Daniela's face softened, yet her curving brow remained. Its angles, lending hate to tense eyes. She watched the rogue subordinate bow with little more than a scoff. "Right. To the king and the king alone." She turned her back, unwilling to acknowledge an apology. Instead, she turned her attention to the colorful elven woman, Lydia Chant . "Prove your talent, and heal this girl."
The general's rough attention slowed to the new arrival, Fila . "A bit late, but welcome. You might have missed some important information. Ask the others to fill you in."
Returning to the tent, Daniela faced the group. A gloved hand steadied her crown. "A scout will be ready to lead you in. From there, find Iago. How you do that is up to you, split up if you feel you must. Or stick together. I suggest that those of you without combat experience, follow Kyverian . We train our guards well and he should serve you fine." She turned to the man. "However, don't let them slow you down."
The general's scowl returned as she looked to Serena . "But keep an eye on this one. Maybe lump her together with the fox. Both are likely trouble."
Fila nods, thankful that the general wasn't too upset. She looks over to the assembled group. The general was right, she did need info. She knew of Iago, and that they were going into the portal, but she really wanted to know if there was anything beyond that. Information was the difference between life and death after all. To that end, one of her temporary allies would have to suffice. Who did she recognize...? Ursula and Kyverian were both here. Things had gone... passably well in their previous encounters, so if nothing else they should be willing to get her up to speed. The latter looked busier, so she'd go to the former.
Stepping around the crispy form of Leliana, Fila moves over to Ursula. "Hello again, Captain Von Brandt. Could you catch me up a bit?" she whispered, taking the moment to look over the assembled crew. They had a healer, and another elf. That was good. And some meat shields so the Nohr's finest spell-slingers could stay alive. All in all, an optimistic composition.

Huh, there’s someone she hadn’t seen in a while. She wouldn’t admit it, but there was some comfort in seeing a familiar face among them.
“Oh, Ja—“ Ursula stopped herself, “... Fila. That’s right. I’ve gotten too used to your... squad nickname.” She peeled off one last bit of charcoal cloth from her sleeve, “... Far as I can tell, the portal that has opened leads to an aberrant land with monster subspecies.” Her arm was lifted to her eye level, and a scoff passed her lips at the ruined sleeve, “There were scouts sent ahead of us, but they haven’t returned. I fear the worst, but... that’s simply because I am a pessimist. Now,” she began moving toward the rear of the border captain, Kyverian, “We must be away.” Fila

There was a diffusion of rising tension. A fact that Kyverian takes solace in knowing that the beginning stages of their hazardous journey wasn't going to deprive them of a squad member before they so much as saw the gate. The recommendation of leading into unknown territory has him nod in the General's direction. The line-up suggestion does have him glance over towards the Elf and the Kitsune. His eyes took a cautious note of their ability and their equipment, whatever else he had thought was left to himself. The call from Ursula does pull his attention away.
"If there is nothing else, we shall be meeting with the scout. Those that lack combat experience should fall in with me." At the very least, Kyverian can get hurt and keep fighting, so long as the damage wasn't more than he could handle. The rattling of plates can be heard, as Kyverian spares Fila a glance of acknowledgement before he's off to find the scout. He'd at least, wait for them to get prepared there.
"Of course!" She rushed over to her injured comrade, happy that the commotion had seemed to blow over quickly. One warning was all that was needed. Lydia pulled out her mend staff and gave the woman a quick glance over. Nothing broken. Only visible injuries were from the impact. A quick fix. "That was quite an attack," Lydia observed as she turned to speak to Leliana, "I'm actually amazed you're still standing after that. Not too many traditional fighters could have stood up to it. Though..." the elven woman tilted her head in a motion to Leliana's ears. This one wasn't exactly a traditional fighter. Kitsune blood did help when it came to resisting attacks. The rest had been left unspoken. The magic from the staff restored the mercenary's health while Lydia spoke silently to herself. "There, good as new."
Her chest lightened as the general's mind flew elsewhere. Serena looked to the bowing kitsune as Lydia healed her. Being lumped with her was some sort of comfort. Both thought traitors, simply because of things out of their hand. Both, claiming loyalty. The seeker sighed and fastened her black vest. She nodded towards the healer, before extending her hand to the kitsune. "Serena." She said, shortly. "Feeling better? It takes balls to talk to a nohrian genearl like that."
Leliana began to dust herself off as the General's attention was drawn elsewhere. She couldn't be sure, but it seemed the general had weakened her attack, though whether it was to save her fur, or out of kindness, she couldn't be sure. Still, she gave the young woman to healed her a smile, her ears twitching. "Aye, I suppose so. Though my resistance to magic generally isn't that exceptional..." She shook her head, before offering a smile to her. "All the same, thank you for the help. I hope I can rely on you in the future as well. Your healing magic is something else." Lydia Chant
Turning her attention to the new arrival, she hummed, before taking the hand with a smile. "Leliana. I've had worse, but yes, I am. No balls here I'm afraid," she whistled, and a small cat prowled out from behind one of the tents, her sword dragging behind him. Picking up both the sword and the cat, she smiled. "Tobias, meet Serena, and Lydia." He mrowled, before licking her face clean. Serena

The seeker's brow rose as the animal revealed itself. The simple fact that it carried a sword with it was further confusing. "You're bringing a cat? Don't you think that it might be a little dangerous to bring him along?" Leliana
Serena watched the general slink into her tent before glancing to the other people. There was instant distrust in the fort guard. She briefly wondered if they had seen each other during the fort battles, but she couldn't remember. The woman close to him, with the singed sleeve, seemed a bit out of place. But, who was Serena to judge. She didn't belong here either.

Fila glances around, before spotting a familiar face that nearly makes her gape with shock. Serene? What was she doing here? First Ethan, and now his sister. Were all her old sins coming up to haunt her? Thankfully, she seemed to have noticed Serena before her old childhood friend noticed her. That gave her the advantage.
Quickly putting on the old mask of the cheerful prodigy with an ease and alacrity that might give Ursula and Kyverian whiplash, she quickly walks over to Serena. Her footsteps are light, and something about her presence seems, subdued, like a serving girl meant to fade into the background. She maintains until she's about two feet from her quarry, before-
"Serena! Oh, its so good to see you again? How have you been? What are you doing here? How's Ethan? Everyone at home? My, you're looking well. Never expected to see you here of all places, hah! Looks like you've been doing well for yourself, I'm glad to see that! Its been far too long, I really should've written! Or perhaps you ought t've. Oh, but I had no address, did I? I've been quite busy you see. Enough about me though, how are you? Who is this? You've made some friends I hope, Nohr is a terrible place to be all online. Are you eating well? I know times are hard, but if you're going to be fighting, your body's condition it life and death. You're taking care of your equipment I should hope? All the teachers are going to be so cross if you haven't, you know what a stickler they are for those things! What about-"
And on, and on, and on. A flood of questions, in-jokes, and updates suddenly appears from behind and slightly to the left of Serena without any warning. Before Ursla and Kyverian's eyes, the dour, pragmatic mercenary had metamorphosed into a bright, cheerful busybody who never forgot a friend. It would seem 'normal' to Serena, as this was how the Fila she remembered acted. But for anyone else who knew her, it seemed fake and pained. Like someone trying to return to a life that could never again be theirs. nvmoreKyverianUrsula

"It was really nothing," the woman brushed the compliment off. "I'm happy to help." The simple spell she used was something even a beginner could do. Still, she hoped that was the extent of her abilities that would be shown through all of this.
Chiming into the conversation, "I had hardly even noticed the cat, to be honest," Lydia mumbled. Though brought to her attention now, a warm smile grew on her face. "Hello, Tobias," she greeted with an outstretched hand. Serena was right though. It would be dangerous. Now, There was a familiar face. The woman's blue hair was unmistakable. Lydia had met Serena a few times before. Once had been an encounter in the woods and the other had been on the battlefield. The archer was a very powerful ally. Lydia was glad to see her once again, though seeing her here probably meant she made no progress with her brother. The elf hadn't had time to greet the woman before another came to them. From they way she spoke it seemed like they were almost old friends.
Leliana watched as Tobias leaped from her shoulder to Lydia, landing on her shoulder, before curling up around her neck with little trouble. Rolling her eyes, she shook her head and smiled. "He's been through plenty of dangerous situations before, to the point it's almost startling how much he's survived. And it may have been nothing, but all the same, I have to thank you." Leliana continued, glancing at the new arrival with a curious glance, her eyes narrowing slightly, though she said nothing. "Hopefully this expedition can kick off shortly, so that I can get paid sooner," she mumbled, before shaking her head.

Ursula folded her arms as she observed the elf troubadour’s healing abilities on the kitsune. A complete recovery, and she looked none the wiser... maybe the kitsune had a penchant for trouble, and that in itself was troublesome.
Then, Ja-no, Fila approached the seeker.
What. What was this sudden friendliness?! For some reason, Ursula felt a sudden surge of envy in her chest.
Hold on... they were both members of the Ice Tribe, weren’t they? That blue hair on the archer was unmistakeable. Why didn’t she notice it before? Of course there would be some familiarity, if... if not a little awkward...
“I’ll have to think about that later,” she murmured to herself. For now, the mission. Ursula proceeded toward Kyverian and stood beside him, “My life is in your hands, Capt. Alto. Do be sure to keep it safe.”

The captain couldn't believe his eyes, when he saw Fila acting awfully cheery. It reminded him of a certain Madame, when he saw it. His guts tell him to check to make sure Fila wasn't replaced with a double, a spy to infiltrate Nohrian operations. But, in the same vein, he was probably over-reacting. Yet, his dazed stare at Fila spoke volumes of his confusion. Only when Ursula speaks does his long distance stare get interrupted. His attention is swiftly placed onto Ursula after her statement.
"You are a dark mage, It is my duty to hold the front while you fire your magic from the rear lines." He soon nods, turning towards the scout, waving for them to get ready to lead the party off on an adventure of a lifetime. His attention soon turns back to those gathered, to remind them of the purpose of this gathering.
"Listen up!"
His voice booms to life, to gather the attention of those that were to come along. "We're going into the gates shortly! Say what you will and follow the scout! There is no time for delays!" The captain twists himself away from the group, to following behind the scout as the time for action was upon them. All that remained on Kyverian's mind now was the mission, the rescue, and to find Iago. SerenaLelianaLydia Chantnvmore
It was reflex. Serena's elbow jerked back, freezing inches from Fila as she recognized her voice. Countless questions popped into Serena's mind, numbing her to Fila's interrogation. So much of the seeker's life lay forgotten. Almost like, it couldn't exist passed the Tribe's gargantuan mountains. Yet, here it was. Here Fila was, proof that Serena had been more than a hunter.
"I'm fine, Ethan's. Ethan's gone." Serena reached along her own forehead, correcting the loose strand stretching towards her nose. "Where did you go? We thought you'd be back, but you didn't. We all thought you might have just settled down somewhere, but here you are. There's a lot you missed. My brother he-"
Serena turned to their appointed leader. The armored man stepped out, shouting their attention to him. He spoke with a disgusting level of conviction. He turned and Serena closed her eyes. She followed with a sigh, resisting the urge to dart ahead. She wasn't in charge and rushing out of turn was suicide.
