"Straight, up the stairs, then right? Got it." Ethan said with a nod.
There were no questions. He turned and ran. The runaway darted down the alley with the sound of clanging armor following at a distance. As he rushed up the stairs, he heard the woman scream in surprise. He stopped for a moment. Agitated voices questioned her. Ethan glanced towards freedom.
Should he leave her? Rush into freedom alone? What if she died? Did that even matter? Nohr claimed plenty of lives. One more wouldn't hurt. He blinked hard, knowing that he wasn't cold hearted enough to leave her. Ethan turned around, drawing his sword as he crept back down the steps. He couldn't leave someone behind.

Northella witnessed the two soldiers rush her but she was prepared this time. She grinned at the warriors and brought her naginata down in an attempt to wound the first soldier's head. He was trying to get past her with his spear but there was no way she was letting him.
"You're never going to stop me!" he cried twirling his lance over his head.
"I'm not letting you past," she answered in kind. Her spear was a bit faster then his this time as she aimed for the top of his head with a mighty swing.

The soldier, now upset but still alive, picked his weapon up and quickly responded with haste jabbing it forward into Northella's iron stomach with the pointed end clear as day. He giggled and couldn't wait to rip this woman to shreds for attacking him and thereby disobeying the law's lands to end up a traitor. He hoped she couldn't dodge it was unlikely the case since her huge set of black armor looked very heavy.

"I'm not sure yet," Northella responded quickly, "you already claimed the other one with your sword. Logic says I should take the one down I'm already attacking but-"
Suddenly the first soldier ran towards the wall Ethan used, climbing the stairs with their legs to get there before bounding off it, after performing this wall run they copied his same movements and jumped out from the side to strike at Northella with a very wide, yet awkward spear slash. They were doing this because they realized their regular tactics weren't cutting it. Northella realized in return that she was the slowest talking and moving person in the alley. The problem was would their shaft-like weapon and the blade on it hit. More ever, would they actually do any damage to her?

"Traitor?" Ethan's rising voice boiled with anger. "I never claimed loyalty with you lot. Rapists, murderers! If people like you are calling me scum, then I made the right choice."
He raced towards the lancer, bringing a series of quick swipes at the man. The soldier's distance proved troublesome and his spear pushed every strike away. It fell to the point the the lancer was jabbing randomly to keep range on Ethan. The tribesman surfed through training exercises, but none recalled told him what to do.
"You won't get far if you can't even get passed a night guard!" The lancer teased.
Ethan shouted as he dove towards the spear.

The first soldier noticed his comrade now had a knife. He too had lost his weapon and blinked as his comrade blindly waved his knife at one of the two escaping soldiers. "Aw man, what are we going to do?" he growled aloud.
"You could just run home or die like the scum you are?" Northella commented now winking at him with one of her dark pupils. She spun her lance around hoping to get ready to strike with a long vertical slash of her naginata, however, the soldier was beginning to act much quicker then anticipated. He took a hunched over boxing stance and raised his fists revealing bronzed guantlets on them.
"What the heck? Does he think he can reach me?" She pondered aloud.
The man did indeed think so he was already dashing towards her and firing off a punch. She flinched and in that moment forgot an important thing as he bent down below her waist line. His bronze spear was most likely at her feet! Northella witnessed him rise up and then suddenly attempt to stab the weapon at a horizontal angle into her breast plate. She prayed she wouldn't get hit and pierced at this range but his spear for it would be quite a disaster for her. Ethan was already suffering a good deal of blood loss. Somehow she had come out of all this unscathed so far. It was likely her knight training that allowed for this so she thought back on it and braced her muscles for impact thinking strongly of skidding to the side in her heavy suit of armor if need be at the last second.

The giant woman hits as she expects. A loud "Crack!" fills the air and the poor soldier drops like a rock feeling one of his shoulders dislocated in a single blow as he is knocked to the ground. Blood begins to pool on his lip and the barely living soldier cries out, "What have we made our female soldiers into! This girl's like a fortress!"
"Are you calling me fat!?!" Northella voices with an upset tone as she steps in to hopefully finish off the job with her next blow. "I've only gone through regular military training you know. I don't want to have these be your last words, however, you've made them so mister." Her armored leggings clang down hard next to his head as she stops and turns to Ethan asking, "Would you like to finish this man off or should I? I know you have a man with a puny knife over there but have you ever thought about switching? It's satisfying to drop these weaklings like flies."
Note: I now wish I could double attack. This is actually starting to feel like a long battle just for two people. Usually the Fire Emblem games I play really do limit battles to two turns before moving onto another unit, unless you mess around with fielded units in your strategies. 1-100·1-100
His lack of training grew apparent against hardened killers. Technique lay forgotten and muscle memory proved faulty. All that time ignoring his commander's screamed orders was going to cost him his life. The deserting man slowed himself, paying deeper attention to the world around him. Northella stood like a wall. Her precision and stance were somewhat inspiring. Exposed flesh seemed covered with ease and the fact that she quipped was somewhat intimidating.
"I don't want to kill him." Ethan told her. "I don't want to kill anyone! You people just need to let me go!"
"Fat chance. We'll have your head kid."
"Look at what you're doing! Is this really important enough to throw your life away?" The deserter's pleading eyes danced between the combatants. "We can all still walk away."
The man in front of him wasn't backing down. He grip tightened around the puny blade. Its size left Ethan the advantage. He had range. He had greater force. He just needed the precision to end it. Accuracy came only with a calm mind. The poleman saw his hesitation and charged in. Ethan threw a false swiping, swaying the soldier back. The fisherman's stolen boot forced his enemy to the ground. Ethan left him no time to recover.

"Huh? she groaned looking down at her attacker, "You can still move?"

Northella's naginata cut through the enemy's back ending his life. He didn't let out a scream at all as she pulled her weapon out of him and looked to Ethan, "I'm done. Can you hurry up or do you need my help still? I'd like to get us to that tower, use the wyverns there and get out of here. We can't stop killing these Nohrian soldiers since they're just basic peons of our forces. They won't stop fighting under the threat of immediate death on the spot or of people they know. If you don't like that, maybe I can entice you with a little peak later of what's under my armor. Every guy loves to look at a nice woman from time to time." The soldier was now dead though as she trudged towards Ethan expecting to let him have her help him out. She needed to get rid of the second soldier so more wouldn't be called but Ethan didn't seem up to it. 1-100·1-100
"I know!" He shouted back, not realizing he wasn't the one stopping her sentence. His battered soldier laid on the ground in front of him. Everything inside Ethan screamed run. What did it matter if one guard saw him running? When morning came, and his bunk was empty, they'd know anyways.
The wall's trivial sounding conversation reached his ears. The meaning of her words, lost to deaf ears. She'd be in trouble. Even if she was Nohr, she wasn't the kind of cold blooded person that Ethan had grown used to, that Ethan was trying to avoid becoming. She didn't deserve the fallout for his mistake, just like he didn't deserve to pay for the tribe's weakness. She was right. This man would need to die. Ethan would have to leave a little bit of himself within Nohr if he was going to get out.
Distracted by blinding introspection, Ethan stood motionless against the soldier's leaping strike. His blade stabbed into the deserter's calf and both fell flat. The armored man weighed extra pain on Ethan's fall. The sword was inches from his palm and Ethan pulled the man's helmet off. He tossed it aside as the two rolled.
Ethan switches to offensive support.

The bare brawl was short lived. They struck against a wall, with Ethan being beneath the man. Blinding fists bashed against the side of his azure scalp. Blind hands reached out and snatched the closest object they could. Ethan slammed the loose helmet against the soldier's temple. The downed man slammed against the wall and rolled off Ethan. He was down, not dead. Ethan glanced to Northella. She teased with false promises of tantalizing flesh.

Ethan's fury bounced into the man's caving face. Each strike, vengeance for the unsolved crimes tossing him to a world colder than any storm he'd seen. The soldier's skull was now a cavity of gore. The marred helmet was chucked into the alley as Ethan rose on shaking knees. His hands were a scarlet mess, matching the new colors at his waist His chest heaved.
"There." He said. "He's done. He's dead. Better? Let's just fucking go."

The battle was over and Ethan was covered in blood. Northella smirked at him and announced, "Nice job!" then turned her head towards the tower still down the ways past a door that led into a courtyard. She trod over to the door in her heavy armor and quickly turned the handle opening it to a white tiled courtyard with giant black lizards with tiny wings laying on its giant surface. Two hundred yards away, like she told the gray eyed swordsman, a tower existed. They were now at the edge of the Wyvern Training Grounds. From here they could grab a wyvern in the courtyard or one in the tower and make their escape via flight.
It all depended on them both swallowing their fears of possibly getting caught or scared by the wyverns should either of them feel this way, and making it across the expanse. Northella looked to Ethan and uttered, "Normally I'd go first since I'm the lady here, however, since I'm holding the door feel free to step in and get yourself a giant lizard."
Ethan followed the destructive woman while his clothes clasped his body. Arms tinted red, the color was a damning reminder of murder. Yet, he had little time to process what he had done. Northella had kicked her speed up and he could tell, his welcome in the situation was over. And so, he charged on.
He watched the courtyard, half expecting another platoon to spring out and proclaim his sin. No one knew, not yet, but it felt like the night spread his actions faster than any words could.
"Just wait here then." Ethan whispered. "I'll make sure it's clear. If it's not, I guess you'll find out pretty quick."
He crept along the edges of the courtyard, watching every shadow. A few hoops hung overhead, Ethan guessed they were for flight practiced. However, things seemed clear and the deserter waved for Northella to join him.

Northella rolled her eyes as the deserter ran off on his own to inspect the courtyard and tower they were heading towards. She sighed when he waved at her from under a tree that all was clear. Then, without much effort, trudged over to Ethan at the edge of the courtyard with a loud, "Clang! Clang! Clang!" as he armor bounced while she ran.
"I need to change my body figure," Northella admitted loudly. "I'm making a damn mess of our escape attempt, and if I weren't as thin as a toothpick, well, things would be going better with this armor I have bouncing around. But you really need to learn to swing a damn sword if that's just called everyone here." Northella growled pointing at Ethan with an accusing finger.
Flat lips and narrow eyes watched the woman speak. The tension in Ethan's shoulders hadn't faded and blood-soaked fists clenched at the woman's words. "You want to make this about me?" Ethan pointed towards their alley. "I just beat a man to death and you're telling me that I need to learn more?" His hands shot up, voice rising as loud as he dared. "Loot at me. Look at what I've done. Maybe you're used to killing people, but don't you dare try to put this on me. Maybe learn to be quiet. Learn to actually sneak. Maybe don't run across a yard."
Ethan drew a deep breath. "Instead of trying to put me down, let's just go. Alright? Let's get the hell out of here and put this horrible night behind us."
As his tone fell, so did his attitude. The tension remained, yet Ethan realized snapping at Northella wasn't solving anything. If people actually heard her running, they were coming.

"Fine, let's just get out of here then. You're a rather cowardly man," Northella stated angrily. "It's our job as soldiers to kill and yet you, I suppose due to your circumstances you can't. I can say for certain though that I can. I can reveal to you later why I can do so if you want at a later time, but if you want the short version my mother and my younger sister were slaughtered by Hoshidans in the years leading up to what will soon be war now."
Northella slammed her gauntlets together before approaching the door to the wyvern tower. She'd pull out a brass key and without any effort inserted it into the lock then turned the knob and opened the door. Finally, she stepped inside and voiced, "Follow me. Let's get this done with." After which she stepped into a tiled, granite floor and began to climb a long set of stairs. Along the way wooden perches could be seen in the building and number of extremely large cages each containing at least two of the wyverns Northella had spoken of before.
The one they wanted though was a wyvern near the top of the tower named Pumpkin. It had black scales and orange eyes. Thanks to this, Northella was pretty sure they could use him to fly out of here under the cover of darkness. The problem was whether Ethan would end up getting tackled by this wyvern or not. Northella was the owner of this particular reptile but even she didn't know how he reacted from time to time before he did anything.
"That's just it. I'm not a soldier. I was never cut out to be one. I'm a lazy, good for nothing, fisherman. Okay? My life wasn't supposed to be worth anything, but it was never meant to be put on the line." Ethan's rage died when his savior revealed her bloody family history. "I'm sorry. I guess, these kingdoms took something from both of us. They just hit you worse. Carry on. You'll hear nothing more from me."
He followed Northella with new guilt. The world belonged to more than him and he was getting used to it. The deserter stepped quietly, putting Nohr's training to use. The new room smelled of dung. He nearly recoiled at the scent. "You know." He commented. "These things used to scare me. I always thought that they could bite me in half without second thought."
He kept an eye on the stairwell behind them while his mind reeled between his murder, fear of being found, and the woman's history. If the bodies were found, who would they blame? They'd have to know it was him. He was gone, wouldn't be at count or training in the morning. And what of the steel woman behind him? He wouldn't admit it, but he was afraid of her. She fought the enemy with ease, killed without hesitation, and seemed willing to do whatever it took to live.
