"That's horrible..." Naru stated, disturbed at the fact that anyone would hunt down another person, just to get rich. "Well... How about this..." He took another bite of his pastry as well, enjoying the delectable treat.
"Is that why you have to resort to... What you do to survive?" He asked. "Because you don't trust humans, usually?"

"Humans never gave me a reason to trust them in the first place." Koume smiled humorlessly before eating the strawberry that stuck to her nail then taking another bite of the pastry. She didn't speak immediately, instead choosing to properly chew and swallow what she had bitten. Fresh fruit, that tasted as sweetly as these did at least, were hard to find in the forests. Her previous bitter smile threatened to turn genuine.
"I have no problem surviving without stealing. There's plenty of food running around and fresh water ain't that hard to find. I know a place that would take me in if I asked, but my distrust in humans has nothing to do with me taking their stuff." Her smile turned sharp then, "It's just them paying me back for all they trouble they put me through, and they've put me through a lot."
She ate the remaining piece of her first pastry and gestured for him to ask the next question as she chewed.
"Ah..." Naru stated, thinking on it for a moment. "Yeah, I suppose that makes sense..." He smiled at the girl as she continued to munch her pastry. Naru was also quite content with eating his.
"Well... Hmm..." He said, trying to think of the proper wording for his next question. "Okay. Do you know any other Wolfskin? Personally, at least?"

"'Course it makes sense. My logic is flawless." Koume stated bluntly before continuing with the new question.
"I didn't know any until recently. Real big guy, almost like a tree. 'Bout as dumb as one too, but that's probably too much of a compliment." The girl laughed a bit to herself, "We didn't get to know each other much, but we fought together once. It was amazing! I was bruised and ripped up for days! I got all these new scars too. Oh man, it was so cool!"
Despite the excited glint in her eye, Koume remembered all too well how uncool it was at the moment. It was her first true fight for survival, and she remembered how the fear of being killed paralyzed her for a brief moment before she forced herself through it. She remembered how bloody and torn they both were afterwards, and how painful the healing process was. Even now Koume couldn't move a certain way without wincing at the stretch of new, healed skin. She would have to adjust herself to that soon. That new skin made her vulnerable, made her weak, and she couldn't risk that deciding whether she lived or became someone's new cloak. The scars began to burn quietly on her skin.
"Ah, that's pretty cool!" Naru replied, smiling. "I'm glad you've found someone to connect with."After a quick moment, he decided on his next question. "So, do you have any particular destination in mind at the moment, or are you kinda just wandering?"

"Hold your horses there, Ice Triber. I know I said I'd answer your questions but you've already asked three. Kinda unfair that I haven't gotten to ask any. Of course, I don't really care about your situation or whatever but it's my turn now."
Koume hummed as her mind began to search for a question. It would've been much easier if she actually cared enough about the guy to ask personal questions. She would've preferred him to ask her questions. It gave her a better chance to kick him should he ask something stupid, but Naru had already known too much and was treading closer into dangerously personal waters. She heaved a heavy sigh and sat up in her chair. Koume didn't care much about the young man but having control over the conversation did make her a happy, even if her face didn't show it.
"Why'd you leave the Ice Tribe? They kick you out or something?"
"Ah, not a problem at all!" Naru replied, smiling gently. "After all, it's only fair that you get to know me a little bit as well. I wasn't forced to leave home or anything. No, I'd just lived in the village all my life... It is home, but it certainly got... Boring after a while. I decided I wanted to travel and see the world." He lowered his voice a bit for the next part. "I want to see Hoshido, eventually. I've long been fascinated by their culture..."

Koume gave a laugh under her breath. That sounded somewhat familiar.
"Don't blame ya for leaving. The Ice Tribe doesn't sound real exciting in the first place." She carefully picked the fruit off her last pastry as more questions rolled around her mind. "Eventually? Why not go now? You're seeing the world, right? You don't have anything holding you down to one place. You could go anywhere right now and no one can stop you."
The Wolfskin caught herself. Her tail slowed it wag. She didn't meet Naru's eyes until she felt the excitement was properly hidden. "I can tell ya right now that Hoshido isn't as exciting as here or Nohr, but it's a lot nicer. The air is sweeter there, and the skies feel more open."
A wave of nostalgia overcame the young girl, and it took the taste of her own blood to make it disappear. Koume ran her tongue over the fresh cut on her inner cheek and ate the fresh fruit in hopes of drowning out the iron taste. "How'd ya find out about Hoshido? The Ice Tribe is real far from there, isn't it?"
"It is," Naru nodded in confirmation. "My family owned a rather nice library, back in the village. And since I was raised by them, naturally I became a bit of a bookworm," He chuckled. "Stories of Hoshido always fascinated me... That's why I want to go there so badly. And to answer your other question, there are many places I want to visit here in Nohr, too. It's just easier to go through them first than when I'm returning from Hoshido." He chuckled a bit as the wolf-girl's tail was wagging. It was honestly rather adorable...

"A library, huh? I guess that explains why you're such a big nerd." Koume wanted to press on and ask why he hadn't just gone outside to play. She had seen snow a fair amount of times and while it caused her skin to prickle, it was like playing in heavy clouds. Unless it had mixed with the dirt... The Wolfskin shuddered at the slushy combination. She wanted to press on, and had her mouth open to, until she heard his next statement. The question quickly turned into a scoff.
"Places you wanna visit in Nohr? I can't imagine a single place worth visiting in that hellhole." A lie, of course. Koume could think of a single place. Maybe even two if she were feeling kind. But those locations weren't something she was likely to talk about. "Where in Nohr is even worth visiting in the first place?"
"...You know?" Lexx began, chuckling a bit with embarrassment. "I honestly don't have any place in particular. It's just... I enjoy traveling in general, you know? And if I go through Nohr first, then it'll make my overall journey a bit... Longer." He smiled.

She couldn't argue with that. Koume had a destination in mind, and was determined to reach it more than anything, but even she couldn't resist the occasional detour. Unlike the young man in front of her, the reason why wasn't something she could clearly place. She didn't want her journey to last any longer than absolutely necessary, and yet...
Koume gave her head a quick shake to banish the thoughts.
"That sounds more like a quick way to waste your resources. Not really the smartest thing to do in a place like Nohr but hey, you're the one traveling, right? So whatever floats your dinky little boat. At least you'll make some 'good memories' along the way." The Wolfskin wiggled her fingers at the words. Despite the internal eye-roll at the thought, Koume had made a handful of precious memories through her travels. That, however, was something she would keep to herself for now.
"Well, I mean... To each their own, right?" Naru agreed, smiling. He was truly enjoying talking with this young girl... It wasn't like any conversation he'd had in the past. Not that he'd been able to have many conversations with complete strangers, that is.
"Either way... Thanks for taking the time to talk with me," He stated happily. "I loved talking with you."

Koume eyed the young man for a moment. The Ice Triber was strange, that much was obvious, but this was something else. In normal circumstances, the girl would've past off the compliment for simple politeness. Simple politeness, however, wasn't something the people she interacted with offered her after their conversations were done. Naru had remained mostly calm throughout their entire exchange. With a familiar kitsune in mind, Koume couldn't help but think she was becoming a magnet for patient types.
"You're really weird, you know that?" The sincerity of his statement created a momentary blush.
"It's not like I had a choice, idiot. You blackmailed me here, but I guess I should thank you too for getting these sweets." Koume carefully scratched underneath her ear, eyes looking off in the distance. "Or maybe not."
"Heh. Fair enough," Lexx agreed lightheartedly as he stood, preparing to depart the little pastry shop. "I'll see you around then, Koume." He extended a hand for the young wolfskin to shake, his trademark innocent grin marking his face.
