At the Ruin of the Wyvern’s Rest Starring Ursula von Brandt and Captain Kyverian Alto Morning Macarath, Wyvern’s Rest Ruins
“So this is what’s become of it...” “Yeah.”
The witch known as Ursula von Brandt stood next to a younger blond soldier before a massive, burnt, crumbled building that marked the location of the Wyvern’s Rest. There were a number of people and soldiers who were bidden to assist rummage through the destroyed lot. Children were forbidden from coming near, yet in spite of the instruction, they looked on from atop rooftops and over fences.
“How’s your arm feel, captain?” the soldier asked, “Have you gotten used to it, yet?”
“... No,” Ursula sighed. A cloak hung on the left side of her body, concealing the damage she had received from the night before. “It feels... it feels wrong. Please do not ask such a question any longer.”
“... Yes, ma’am.”
Ursula proceeded to walk around the corner until she spotted a line of blackened and burnt corpses, some with parts of their bodies crushed or completely charred away.
“... And Jensen? What happened to him?” asked the witch.
“I don’t know,” was the answer, “... I didn’t see him following us as we escaped.”
“Then... we can presume he also died here.” “That would be a safe assumption.”

It felt as if Marcarth didn't want Kyverian to leave. Every time an opportunity that presented itself outside of its influences, Fate had laid down the groundworks to prevent his eventual re-assignment elsewhere. Here, in what saw little activity from the frontlines, was more dangerous, to him, than facing down the Hoshido forces. So much had transpired that he hardly had the time to process it all, when another trouble made itself known. Kyverian eventually snaps out of his long-distance staring at the burnt down Wyvern's Rest.
There was emotion in his gaze, the somber mood of a crestfallen man, one who had witnessed a part of his history burned down. He wasn't around to prevent it, Kyverian wasn't able to do what he could to ensure that the Wyvern's Rest stood proudly. His attention turns towards Ursula, a slow blink to hide his emotions behind the veil of stoicism. "Captain Von Brandt, I am here as instructed. How may I assist?" From returning back to Marcarth for some rest to chasing down thieves, to coming around to see the Wyvern's Rest in ruins. Marcarth has been hot and cold with the two captains, it seems. Ursula
Ursula’s hard gaze turned to the now approaching Captain Kyverina Alto, a man she had once worked alongside before on occasion.
“... Captain Alto,” she responded with a deflated tone, “Other than the obvious sight of this crumbling heap before us, there is naught to do but unbury the dead.” She glanced to the broken, mangled corpses on the side, “... The most I can tell you is that I was not conscious during what happened, except that there was a tremendous loss of life here. Eighteen bodies have been uncovered, but there is no telling how many more were there.”
The young soldier at her side turned his face away, “... It’s... pretty terrible, isn’t it, captain...”
“Yes,” she responded coldly, “Get to work, Ensign.”
With a curt nod, the boy proceeded to assist with the cleaning effort.
She turned her body to Alto, as her gaze became piercing, “Where were you last night?” The question was intensely interrogative, a burning fury hidden from beneath. Kyverian

The sight of the Wyvern's Rest in its current state was far too distracting to answer, initially. But the heated, inquisitive stare tore away his attention. The piercing stare was met with a gelid gaze that refused to buckle underneath the pressure of a demanding officer. The posture remains stiff and rigid, as Kyverian meets Ursula and her question head on. There is a moment to consider his words, before eventually, he speaks.
"I was posted outside of Marcarth when all... This... Happened." He gestures to the ruined tavern, "I was following up on a lead as to who organized the theft of a caravan transporting treasure to Garon's estate. Some lucky thieves nearly made off with all of them, until we worked desperately to retrieve most of it. I came back to Marcarth to find out that there's been an incident in my absence."
An incident he could have prevented, something he felt that, had he been there, maybe the Wyvern's Rest would still be standing. Many questions swam through his mind, but his eyes soon divert from Ursula and onto the wreckage, watching as the Ensign pries away the rubble. "I take it there were no survivors?" His eyes do not bother to avert back to Ursula, far too busy scanning the wreckage before he eventually makes his way over to assist.
The question caused the witch’s eyes to divert away, yet she held nothing back, “... My squad, and apparently... myself.” She motioned her hand to the ensign as her voice dropped to a murmur, “Ensign Brigham could tell you more, and considering your affiliation with this inn...” she gave him a knowing glance, “... I know for a fact you would like hear what had happened... in detail.” She turned away and walked over to the bodies.
The ensign lifted a small rock and tossed it aside. A typically cheery young fellow, he was caught by the melancholy of the moment and worked with a sluggish tempo.
“Where did you go...” he mumbled to himself, “... how far did you run?” Kyverian

There was no use in denying his frequenting presence at the Wyvern's Rest. Word of his involvement did spread like wildfire, as well as the culminating rumors that were half-true and half-false. But those mattered little in the moment, when all he could see was the destruction of yet another place he had grown fond of. Rummaging through the rubble alongside the Ensign, pausing, once he registered Ursula and her words that compelled him to ask.
"Ensign, I need the details."
That was all that was uttered from the captain's lips, as his gaze remained upon him, in quiet anticipation.
Noting the older captain’s presence as they worked in close vicinity, the ensign simply turned his head as he was called upon. He was actually a familiar face in the tavern, a young troubadour by the name of Lucas Brigham. He would often see the Nohrian captain visit the tavern to chat up with the Madame. That said, the medic himself had trouble approaching the staunch Nohrian captain due to affiliation with Captain von Brandt.
But now, the opportunity arose.
“Ah, C-Captain Alto,” the young, sprightly soldier stood upright and saluted, “Details I will give you, but they are strictly need to know.” He glanced this way and that, and having confirmed there was no one within earshot of a whisper, he drew near to the captain. “I and my assigned unit was awaiting the arrival of Captain von Brandt and another mercenary by the name of Fila Filigree. I’m certain you two are acquainted.” He cleared his throat, “The Madame came in flustered, and I could tell something was wrong, but I didn’t know what until later. Fila arrived shortly after, carrying my leading officer and throwing her into my companion’s arms. She immediately went upstairs straight after, but some time after that, another person came into the room.” His gaze became fearful, “... An intimidating man who called himself the Doctor. He... bought out a majority of the mercenaries of the inn... and basically had them attack the Madame and Fila. However, there was one other mercenary who had joined their fight. It was all happening so fast that I couldn’t tell who it was.” He tugged at his clothing, “We fled after Ms. Halfox told us that this Doctor fellow would attempt some type of wide-spread ice attack, and soon after, the inn collapsed. Currently, their bodies have not been recovered from the rubble.”
Lucas sighed once more, “... That would be the end of my... regular testimony.” However, he glances around once more, “... But Mom told me that if anything should happen, you should know more, captain.” Kyverian
