Koume prefers clothing she can run and jump around in. The monks, however, disapproved of her wearing clothes that weren't her shrine attire. When it came time for her to leave, they had allowed her the chance to wear something that wasn't the usual hakama and haori. If she had wanted to, of course. No matter how much they prayed for her to say 'No thank you', Koume wanted more than anything to be free of the red and white uniform. The only downside was that the clothing had to pass approval. She was still representing the Shrine, after all.
Using her tail as her main argument, she tried to convince the monks that pants were the best option. Silver tongued Koume wasn’t able to sway them and was instead given a simple dress with a hole in the back for her tail. Her mother's old red hooded cloak that once belonged to her lover is never seen separated from the girl.

Personality:
Since leaving the shrine, and Tadashi, Koume has become colder to those around her. People are now only seen in two ways; obstacles holding her back from her goal or means to an end. Seeing people this way doesn’t bring her any joy. She hurts over the fact that she can’t bring herself trust anyone.
Koume draws joy from getting on people’s last nerve. She enjoys watching a person’s patience dwindle more and more as she talks. Of course this seems to happen naturally, whether or not she wants to see someone burst from frustration. Though the older she gets the less she’s able to get away with her childish actions. Her only saving grace is her ability to charm herself out of trouble. And if that fails, at least she’s quick on her feet.
The teen isn’t the easiest person to get along with. Her temper is ridiculously short and she possesses no filter when it comes to her words. Her manners aren’t the best; she’s been described to act more like a boy or even an animal rather than a young lady. That was one of the things that drove the monks and maidens to their wits end. Though, asking her, she believes being described as more like an animal was just due to her race.
Koume doesn’t believe in planning ahead. She believes in fighting with all her strength and not stopping until her opponent admits defeat. Her reckless nature often leaves her with blooming bruises and healing scars. It’s something she takes pride in, strangely, and will give the story behind each of the injuries with an excited smile. Despite her “tough” exterior, Koume is just a scared little kid who wants to prove to herself and everyone else that she’s worth something.
Biography:
Koume never knew her mother. Dead before going into labor, all the girl knew was that her mother had been a troublesome, but devoted, maiden of Aki’s shrine. The older attendants of the shrine entertained the young Koume with stories about her mother but never her father. Their faces would scrunch up at questions relating to the man. Not that they ever knew who, or what, he was. “It’s a secret!” Was how the young soon-to-be mother would reply, always with a wink, every time she was presented with a question relating to the mystery man. All they had known was that he resided in Nohr, and that’s what they told Koume.
Despite the initial fear and confusion surrounding the girl’s race, having a tail and animal-like ears never proved to be an issue for the child. The maidens would fawn over how fluffy and soft the fur was. They enjoyed sticking small flowers in the fur of her tail, and Koume enjoyed how gentle they were and the endearments they used. The children of Aki were split on how to react to her. Some thought nothing of it and played with her while others threw rocks at her and called her foul names. Koume cried the first time it happened. She fought back the other times.
The shrine attendants taught her prayers and the healing arts, but studying wasn’t something she found herself caring much about. More joy had been found in catching frogs by the river and climbing the village’s tall trees. Koume learned nonetheless. The only thing motivating her to do so was the obligation she felt towards the Shrine for having taken care of her. Her obligations had only done so much as she still found herself sneaking out of lessons and the shrine itself to play.
One of her favorite pastimes, besides swiping treats, was annoying one of the samurai-in-training protecting the Shrine. She had thought nothing of him at first. He was just another samurai looking for honor and glory. He had a habit of stepping into her fights, worried that the girl would get herself hurt as opposed to hurting the other party. She thought he was too caring, too eager to help, but over time she began to consider him a close friend. It was he, the samurai named Tadashi, who would give her the nickname 'Plum'. Koume didn’t like it much at first, but it was better than being called ‘Mutt’ by some of the other children.
It was when the samurai were sent to set about their own journeys that Koume volunteered herself to go along. She had claimed it was to help heal her friend in battle, but the real reason had been more selfish. The shrine had started to feel suffocating and Koume wanted to see more of what the land had to offer. Having seen how restless the girl was in the recent years, it was decided that she could go.
It was only a few weeks into their adventure that Tadashi and Koume had a fight. Tadashi refused to cross into Nohr as he saw the possible danger that they would face. Even though it was something Koume wanted to do more than anything, his main priority was keeping her safe. Koume felt betrayed. Heartbroken even. She thought he understood how badly she wanted to find her family. 'Of course he doesn't understand,' thought Koume. 'He always had his family there when he needed them.' Koume left their camp in the middle of the night and is now traveling through Nohr by herself in search of her father.
Other
Status: Alive and very much kicking.
Pet: None, though she does seem to adopt every animal she comes across.
Additional Notes:
☆ It's not something she openly talks about, but she's desperate to learn about her origins. It's a large reason why she wanted to leave the Shrine in the first place.
★ Koume struggled with shifting between forms until she nabbed a Beaststone from a travelling vendor. While she doesn’t understand what a Beaststone is completely, she knows that the stone is what’s helped her with transforming. She calls it her ‘lucky rock’.
☆ She has a strange collection of things she finds interesting. To name a few pieces in said collection: a torn up doll named Venus, a molted snakeskin, animal bones and teeth, and a small container filled with fish eyes.
★ While Koume is really good at keeping her face clear of emotion, her tail often betrays how she acts.
