Even with how chilly it can get in the catacombs of Windmire, nothing could truly beat the constant bluster of the mountains. Props for the Ice Tribe on managing a way of life out here... even if they were a people most persecuted by the derelict king of Nohr.
A large carriage trudged along in the snow, led forth by four wooly oxen. The wheels of the coach were specially made for the snowy terrain and climbed the mountainside with ease, and the design was no doubt of Nohrian make. Piloting the carriage was a figure so covered in heavy clothing, except for a nose that peeked out from beneath a pair of shaded goggles and a scarf.
Inside of the warm carriage was a young woman in regular Nohrian dress with exposed shoulders, scribbling away at a journal before her.
According to West, there was a group of Nohrian soldiers who were ambushed and captured by revolutionaries in the Ice Tribe. Given that Nohr's forces are spreading thin to attack Hoshido, King Garon won't spare the manpower to rescue them. The request came from a member of the Black Market, a noble, whose daughter was part of the captured party. He's done everything in his power to ransom her, yet they fell on deaf, snow-plugged ears, thus he's come to us to do something.
So, here I am in this wasteland of a--
Her hand stopped. There was a low rumble in the distance... no, it was quickly drawing near.
The woman closed her journal, put it in her chest pocket, and opened a window latch to look outside. There was nothing to the left or right, but when she looked up, her heart felt as if it fell into her stomach. In the next moment, she tumbled backward inside of the carriage as a harsh impact threw the carriage into a roll. The inkwell spilled its contents all over the place, and whatever other loose items also flew about inside. The woman reached here and there for something to hold onto, but her sense of direction was already gone, and with it, consciousness.
Eventually, the carriage had landed violently on its side. The driver and oxen were missing, but the woman remained, lying on her side inside of the carriage. The several hot coals from the heating stove had spilled out the moment the carriage had hit the ground, and eventually a small fire was coaxed against the curtain.

High up in the mountains a young woman of small stature happened to pass through a number of pathways filled with ice and slippery rocks. She wore a red kimono, tied down with a white obi as well as a big overcoat made from black bear's fur and boots of matching materials. Usually, she'd wear sandals and an uchikake on her body but because of the cold temperatures soldiers she had been traveling with from Hoshido to a nearby camp informed her the best thing to wear was heavy coats. She'd taken the advice seriously on the account that the great dragon she visualized in her head said the same thing when passing through Nohr's northern terrain. The great dragon also reminded her to wear gloves, which she did, made from the brown fur of regular deer.
The problem was after talking with all these folks and walking with them only a short while a shifting snow drift separated them and now all she wanted to do was get back to civilization. Even if that meant capture by enemy forces. She had a long oak rod with lily flowers hanging from it in her right hand but beyond that no way to protect or survive out in this area too long. She managed though to see an odd fire rising up from a wreck in the distance though, thanks to gathering smoke, and rushed towards it finding herself greeted by an unnatural sight. Someone's carriage had tipped over! Even if it was a Nohrian lord Ran didn't care as her pink eyes widened and she rushed towards the flames. She dropped her staff and started tossing snow with cupped hands onto the flames. It only put out so much but if anyone was alive in the carriage they had a chance to crawl out.
The problem was there appeared to be a lot of glass so Ran had to step back on accounts that she couldn't go over it lest she cut her feet. Her thick boots were made for warmth and comfort and not much in good terms of sturdiness. She clasped her hands together and frantically prayed someone came out on account that traveling by herself now felt a bit too dangerous.

The woman within the broken coach began to stir at the feeling of heat, aside from the obvious pain reverberating around her body. There was the fire that climbed to the ceiling from the thick curtains and smoke began to fill the wagon.
There was no time to waste, even in the daze of the moment. The woman began to crawl toward the rear exit The door was broken, and completely blocked in by snow, but the immediate thought of digging her way out came to her mind. She therefore acted upon the thought and began sinking her bare hands into the snow to toss it behind her. However, she knew that as soon as she allowed in a steady flow of oxygen, the fire will spread inside of the cabin much faster.
"Bugger bugger bugger..." the woman hissed as she burrowed with greater speed into the snow. She continued with a violent raking motion until snow began to fly into the fire.
Soon enough, a breathing hole appeared toward the roof, and smoke began to flow through it. Her arms continued to dig until a sufficiently-sized hole began to blow the cold wind inside. With the air, the fire began to spread toward her.
"That's it!" she exclaimed as she began to pull herself out of the small hill. Thus she emerged, a touch singed on the ends of her hair and a trail of blood coming down the right side of her face, but nothing a quick trim and bandaging couldn't fix. @reader

"Ah!" Ran cried stopping her act of shoveling snow onto the fire. The reason she did was someone with singed hair and blood streaming from her face was rising up from the small hill of snow piled up around the fire. Smoke cast this woman from Ran's view for only a moment but the instant she saw her she dashed over to the lady and skidded to a halt kicking up snow as she did.
"Are-are you all right?" she questioned, "I've been trying to rescue you but I just got here and I wasn't even sure anyone was still left in this small crash!"
She wanted to say more, however, cold temperatures around her finally caught up to her in her lighter attire and caused the priestess to shiver. This wasn't the best way for a rescuer such as her to look. Sadly, she really didn't have a choice since she was in dire straights herself with only her bear coat and boots on along with her deer skin gloves. They'd gotten really wet from her actions and now were starting to freeze as the air temperature suddenly began to drop.

Snow flew into the woman's face as the stranger halted forcefully, but after a good wipe-off with her hand, she was able to squint at the figure before her.
A pre-teen girl with pink hair in a heavy coat. Ice Tribe natives have a more glacial look, so this girl was a foreigner much like herself. It was a curious thing as to why she would be here, given the harshness of the ice mountain.
"... Hum," the woman murmured, "... The best way to find out if anyone is alive is to actually look around. Any longer and I would've been a little more than undercooked."
Even more, it was freezing out here. The coat she wore just wouldn't be up for snuff in this godforsaken alp, but the tingle of danger lingered. The avalanche couldn't possibly have been a random occurrence, not when the denizens themselves feel hatred for the Nohrian king and his people.
The woman wrapped her arms around herself as she began to proceed up the slope, "This camp you spoke of... is it far?" Her voice began to quiver, "W-w-w-we shouldn't s-stay out here a-any longer that w-w-w-we should..." If anything, the storm's strength had not waned since the carriage set its track upon the mountain. @reader
