A few years' time was just about the same time frame he himself had under his belt, but obviously their standings were vastly different, given their positions. Sakaba couldn't help but think about the differences they held, not just in knowledge but also in the circumstances of their upbringing. It was a bittersweet thought, reminding him of his own failures despite how much he had tried to invest himself in the studies, but at the same time admiring the young girl's dedication to her line of work. He lightly chuckled; "That's an unusual reason, taking a liking to the flowers." But not out of the question; his own sisters may have shared such sentiments, in fact.
He took some interest in how Cas also mentioned, if for conversation alone, how she had arrived at these parts, and how her teachers were in fact not her direct family. Usually, this knowledge would be passed from parent to child. It could note something regarding the woman's upbringing, so he speculated; but chose to ignore for the moment.
"Thank you for the familiarity." He said, leading the way further. The path from here on was relatively even, and if anything only the remaining distance from camp would have posed a nuisance. "If so, you too, must call me by my name." He requested, somewhat impishly. He had only assumed the given respect she deserved due to being in business with the lady, but if that could be dropped, so is preferable. "Do try it, Cas. It is only right. However, I request we at least keep face in-front of my soldiers. We are, in the end, having an unsolved deal." He'd hate to deal with the upcoming teasing from his disciples; which would inevitably come. To keep them to a minimum, business etiquette was in need. Though with no one around, they could take a step back some.
“Perhaps. As a child it made perfect sense.” The lighthearted words had been followed by a small shrug. Of course that hadn’t been the sole purpose for her work now. Back then it was just something to do, something that allowed her to stay in the same room as her new guardians and the plants without getting in trouble. It wasn’t until later that her reasonings had shifted. She finds it funny how quickly her ambitions had changed during that time. “It was enough of a reason to keep me still for some time.
It made her wonder if Sakaba ever rejected learning about the medicines the shrine created. He had said it had been a fundamental part of his childhood. As a child she was horribly restless, always moving and dancing and with the ability to focus only in small spurts. Looking at the man, how calm and polite he had been since their meeting, she couldn’t imagine him rebelling against his family teachings.
“Of course, Sakaba. I have no intention of causing you any form of trouble.” She couldn’t imagine why calling him by his name causing any trouble, but she wasn’t about to go back on his request. She imagined that the camp held a much stricter air; calling the instructor by his name would probably be disrespectful on her part. Right? Cas’ knowledge on the Hoshidan army and its camps was practically nonexistent. Her only fear was that she would do something that would considered rude. Hopefully the deal would pass over smoothly and quickly so that fear wouldn’t become a reality.
In response, the instructor lightly laughed, turning to his company with a wider smile. "That is good reassurance. Thank you, Cas." Using her name this time was more in favor of amplifying his gratitude, letting her know she had his full attention, if for the brief moment. As they progressed with further small talk, Sakaba came to convince himself further of trusting the herbalist. This went awfully different from what he had expected; that being a short encounter, followed by perhaps a respecting handshake to seal it off. But thankfully, he got the chance to hang around a nice girl like this.
Some fifteen minutes into their stroll and Sakaba could spot the camp's entrance in sight. The Hoshido army emblem proudly displayed over two banners, hanging over a couple of improvised poles; a barricade of the sort surrounding the area. He briefly looked to Cas to see her reaction to such. He'd assumed the girl had no military experience to speak of, and the sight of a camp a couple of soldiers built together would surely be of some enlightenment to the unfamiliar.
"Hmm." Taking a quick glance to the basket, Sakaba counted the stash with his eyes briefly, making sure that none had been damaged or 'disappeared' on the way. "Thank you for sticking with me so far." He opened; "This here, is our destination. I take it you've never been to a camp before, have you?"
Cas nodded, and the conversation continued. While she had anticipated a great deal of talking to be done she hadn’t expected to be casually conversing as much as she was. Any talking was suppose to be done only for the explanations of the order. Or rather, that was her assumption. Simple and to the point. Not that chatting with the instructor was unenjoyable. In fact, she was surprised at how at ease she felt. While a brief meeting was preferred, Cas was glad to have met and talk with the man.
The camp hadn’t been what she had expected. Though if she were being honest, she really had no idea what to expect. Images of how the camp might look were painted in her mind but they had come to be for entertainment purposes rather than serious intent. Her eye went from the banners to the makeshift barricade. None of her guesses were close to the actual thing, which was fantastic as most of her pictures had many outlandish elements to them. To repeat herself, it made been for entertainment purposes only.
“Of course Instructor, our deal is still unresolved after all.” Cas allowed herself a small grin before going straight-faced. Now that they were on campgrounds, it would be business until the deal was sealed with a handshake. “I’ve never been to a camp before this day. Is there anything I should know before proceeding? Anything I should or shouldn’t do? I wouldn’t want to disrespect you or any of your soldiers.”
Brief thought over her question caused the instructor's eyes to wander away from her face, as he pondered. Was there need to act anyhow? "Hmm." He mused, before arriving at a conclusion. Inside these walls laid several soldiers he was in-charge of training, but wasn't necessarily their commander. Keeping face at business value was about as far as it went. "For now," he said, taking to her eyes again; "just act as you normally would. Pay no mind please." He had already come to learn that Cas didn't have any 'attitude problems', per se.
Turning away from the herbalist and to the barricade, Sakaba stood proudly, back straightened as his face was lifted to trace the guard keeping watch. He wasn't visible from their location, but as he had helped with building this barricade, he knew he was there. "Instructor Sakaba, entering." He claimed, quickly and to the point, as the barricade's doors began to move. Lifted up, allowing the instructor and his companion to enter. "Alright, miss herbalist." He instructed, jesting once more. Lending her his hand, to lead her into camp grounds.
"Any of you who's held any complaints about their health!" He soon barked into camp grounds, picking up a pace twice as fast as the one in which he had walked with her. Referring to the entirety of soldier body present inside, he managed to catch them off-guard as he made a hastened way to a certain tent. "We've brought someone who can look those over. Take turns and come inside!" He commanded, presence almost entirely changed. Throughout his way inside, he made sure to glance to the woman, making sure she followed through. Cas
As she normally would. Cas nearly laughed at the notion but swallowed it down and nodded. Sakaba had shifted then, standing taller and calling out to someone she couldn’t see. Was there someone even there? Cas followed his line of sight and saw no one. She tilted her head to the side in confusion. Her search for the guard ended when the door’s began to lift up.
“Alright.” Cas echoed and accepted the offered hand. If Sakaba’s shift outside the barricade was enough to surprise her, then this was enough to make her speechless. The man she had met in the field was left outside. Leading the way now was camp instructor Ouyuu. My, how intimidating. She struggled to keep up with his fast pace but she hid that well enough. Or she would like to think so.
Speeding through the camp didn’t leave her enough time to register what was around her. What she did see was tents and startled soldiers, and maybe that was really all she needed to see of the camp. A few soldiers seemed to be getting ready to follow along. She wondered just how many people she would be checking today. Cas will be the first one to admit that she packed enough to tend to a wide variety of symptoms and people, but doubt began to grow in her stomach.
