Serena Leigh stood alone, studying the map below her. Flags marked strategic points and a quick summary of their terrain sat close by. Open spaces would do her the most good, yet there was a certain appeal to having cover. Of course, those with cover were harder to hit. The list of enemy soldiers came in and Serena wasn't too sure how they matched against each other. In truth, she felt a bit anemic. And she had reason to. These people were soldiers, she was simply a scout.
The seeker had been told that she was working with two people. One was a knight. He seemed to have just fallen out of the sky, because Serena hadn't heard of him. It was the same thing with the elven maid. No name was given for either of them, just a basic description. It seemed that Nohr didn't really value community. That was no surprise, why value what you regularly destroy?
Naito grumbled ever so slightly about not being told who he would be partnering with. As such, he was a bit annoyed and it did not help that he was hungry as well. Arriving at the area he was supposed to meet the other two he would be working with, Naito was actually surprised. It was Serena. Chuckling, Naito walked toward her and spoke. "Well it seems they intended for us to not know each other, but it worked against them didn't it?"
The words were simple and the way he greeted her was short yet, proper in its own way. "So there's supposed to be an elf huh? I wonder if it's the elf we know?"
"I don't believe in coincidences when it comes to Nohr. I'm guessing their planned this, for one reason or another." Serena gave him a deep nod. Her wounds, and by extension his, had recovered from their earlier skirmish with the mad diviners.Thankfully, insanity wasn't contagious.
"If it is the same woman, I'm guessing she will show up in time. Tell me," The seeker asked. "You think this is going to work in our favor? Their numbers are small, but spies say that Hoshido is moving an entire army our way. I was hoping to get this done before it came to that. Nohr's military force isn't even ready yet."

"Honestly speaking, we will never be fully ready for war. Half of our forces are sitting behind us waiting for the oppurtunity to laugh at us, while we face the sound of a beating drum." Naito grumbled and then quietly sat down to look at the map. Taking a few of the pieces he rearranged it to show where the Hoshido forces were, where theirs were, and where they currently were. "As you said, they have far more than we do currently. But what we have that they do not is experienced war leaders." Naito then chuckled and eyed her.
"You know I never actually looked but you're kind of a cute one." He teased her and then leaned back in his chair to relax a little bit.
"They'd be more prepared if they didn't just rush troops here because a document was leaked. Instead of an invasion, they're now responding. Plus, it seems the Hoshidan troops want this victory more than we do. I haven't spoken to one soldier that feels this is a good idea. It's all the same complained, we were't ready. Some of those men are little more than kids. They don't even hold their weapons properly."
The seeker glanced up, brushing the comment aside with a neutral voice. "You should see me covered in blood, dirt, and full of scratches. That's when I'm at my cutest."

"Oh ive seen you covered in blood before. Maybe we can dirty you up then today." He laughed and then looked around them. It was true, the soldiers that were there were undertrained, new, and most of all scared. Sighing he shook his head and then looked at Serena. "I think it doesnt help the fact that most of the experienced soldiers have chosen to stick to the back instead of the front. So maybe we should do something about that?"
He really had no idea how he was supposed to calm all these new recruits and lead them into battle. Even if he could, the chances of these newbies staying alive was like 30% in Naito's books.
"I don't know." She said. "It makes sense for them. Let the enemy tire themselves out on the weaker soldiers, then strike. It's what Nohr does. Sacrifice the weak, but soon enough there won't be anything else left to sacrifice. That's a problem for another day and for other people. We just need to hold the line and try to get as much ground as possible."
Serena retrieved her bow from its chair. "Waiting around is pretty much pointless. I'm eager to just do this. The longer we wait, the more it's going to bother me."

"Well that's definitely true. In fact, its what they told me." He laughed and then sighed again. So many lives would be lost today just because of a stupid foulup on the Nohrian side. At that moment he wished he had some kind of better training to help him prepare for this. Either way, he would wait to enter the battle. "When the elf arrives I might send her your way Serena."
He spoke and watched her grab her bow, "Also please do be careful, i dont want to have to dig your grave for you." He smiled.
"Don't worry about that. If you do have to dig a grave for me, there's going to be a crap ton more. Believe me Naito. I'm not going to die alone out there. I'm much to angry." She flicked her azure hair. "And much to beautiful for that. I only want to scout out the center, maybe a bit further. I just want up to date intel and to make sure I have the land figured correctly. "
Serena checked the draw on her bow. Its unfamiliarity left much to be desired, but she needed to learn its ways. Just as it needed to learn hers.

The nurse glanced around the room. Everyone here seemed more qualified than she was. Nohr's army was in need of healers, she knew that much from the conversation she had with Johanna so long ago. With a look of surprise, she saw both Naito and Serena standing in front of her. Flirting, it seemed. It was amazing how war could bring people together like this. Lydia didn't think she would ever encounter the two of them again. She walked past them to the map on the table and looked it over. "Hope I'm not interrupting anything," she smirked.
It indeed was the elf he knew. Chuckling, Naito turned to look at the female. Approaching her, smiled and welcomed her. "No, you are definitely not interrupting anyone right now Lydia. You see we were discussing how we were going to handle all these new recruits in the army. But I had an idea how to do it just now. I will be assigning about 5 recruits to you personally Serena. Do with them as you see fit. As for the rest I'll send the with Captin Berna to the middle ground. As for you Lydia, I'll assign four knights to you for protection. As such, you are free to do as you please."
Pausing slightly he nodded to Lydia and Serena. "I think we all know that this could possibly be the last time we see each other. So, seeing how it is. I asked the commanders if I could bring one of my servants here to cook a meal for us." He smiled and then nodded again as a few servants brought in food.
"Four knights?" Lydia questioned. "I hardly think I would be that important to protect." The elven maid often drew little attention on the battlefield while she stood on the sidelines giving support to others. "Surely there is a better use for some of them," she would hate to be a burden for the armored men when they could be more useful elsewhere.
The feast however, was very welcomed. She looked at the servants with a bit of unease where harsh memories came back to her. "It would be a good idea for us to go into this at full strength," she agreed. Yet there was no sense in befriending others quite yet. They could very well be dead tomorrow.
Serena drug herself back in. Broken, beaten, and tired. "I held the fort for as long as I could. They sent two people to attack me." She spit blood. "Cowards. We need to mount a counter offensive. I'll need a second to recover, but I'll be right back out there again. No way I'm losing this thing!"
The seeker was furious. In fact, she cared little for Nohr taking over, but the ambush was low. As time drew on, she understood it was only decent strategy to attack that way. Still, she would strike back hard.

"Don't worry about it Serena. We'll still win this thing easily." Naito laughed as he walked back to her before taking a wine glass and then once again leaving. He had a brand new spear on him, and this one was far bigger and more adangerous than his lance. It even had a red tint on it like it had been custom made.
Lydia's face dropped when she saw her companion so beaten and torn by the fight. Ambushes like this were not fair, but war never was. "Hold still," she told the other woman while she lifted her staff. The magic flowed through the maid's body and healed her companion back to full strength. "Please take some time to rest. I'll make a move to the next fort if I must."
Naito's confidence in all of this was refreshing. It gave Lydia the energy that she needed. Sometimes, a bit of moral was all that was needed to drive people to do crazy things. It surely boosted the knight's confidence in himself, though something told her that he seemed to be very confident period.
