Fort Jinya had fallen to the Nohrian soldiers yet after everything this enclosed, almost circumference of stone had a cyclic way of returning to the enemy hands. As a result, soldiers had been brought forth to protect and since Northella was in the area she thought it best to join up with the troops in order to gain information and/or money for her boss West whenever she returned to him. She was a mercenary after all and the heavily armored silver and blue knight knew that as a deserter of Nohr she was likely not welcome here so she played her part in saying when she entered the gates, "I'm a traveling warrior. I am excellent at guarding things. Let me know how much you pay and I'll guard the door here."
The soldiers already stationed there were a little hesitant at first, due to her carrying a naginata; however, they let her stay on the fact she sounded Nohrian and had armor matching their own. She even regaled the times she actually did take a few Hoshidan lives before her turning of a new leaf. One young ninja she had put out of his misery by kicking him over Windmire's wall when he climbed. The fall had splattered him all over the ground but at the time she hadn't really cared. She simply carried out her job then. This caused the soldiers to trust her even more as she sat on one of the nearby stools at the gate simply because she indicated through this was a capital city guard and this was likely her hometown.
Northella smiled and added, "I'm one of the few female warriors you'll find in Nohr with such skill. There's a woman I know a little of who hunts for gold just like me but that blond chick with her big ribbons wouldn't know how to hit a target if it was even two feet in front of her. She, of course, was talking of Charlotte a pretty famous Fighter who guarded Nohr's border wall. That woman was as strong if not stronger then Northella but she'd heard she had a weaker constitution and bad aim since day one. That lady though seemed younger then her so Northella was certain she had more room to grow in terms of being able to fight.
Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said of the few civil Hoshidans walking around the fortress. They were prisoners in their own home and were willing to strike out at the soldiers at the gate. She was surprised a few of them hadn't already but that was likely because they were grateful of people like her getting rid of somebody like Zhara recently.
"Had we really though?" she wondered. She couldn't remember the expedition all that well simply because the low halls of a particular building made her bump her head once or twice. She'd gone with Ethan, Deacon, and Grant to take care of things and had mostly stuck with Nohrian soldiers to deal with the terrible anti-Hero. If she recalled correctly the turn of events. It had paid out somewhat well and she felt stronger due to it.
A small detachment of Hoshidan soldiers assumed positions around the fortress perimeter under the cover of darkness. it was a company sized element so no more than fifty individuals, all of them trained in how to employ camouflage in order to not give away their presence. they weren't exactly ninjas so they relied of the old method of covering their positions with foliage from surrounding trees.
Right now they where occupying dug outs that had been prepared months ago before the fall of the fortress. The Nohrians had no idea what the ditches where for so they where able to occupy them for the time being. The Company commander- a Samurai who went by the name of Igarashi briefed the sergeants on the operation. This was a simple prove in order for them to determine the strength of the enemy currently occupying the fort.
The attackers knew the terrain and among them there where warriors who had been part of the last garrison to defend fort Jinya one of them being Akemi who was now in charge of leading an advance party. Three hours before sunrise the soldiers left the concealed dug outs, approaching the fortification without raising the alarm. Archers attempted to neutralize the patrols guarding the outer perimeter while the infantrymen made their advance.
Akemi had the dubious honor to be sent ahead of everyone else. Her orders very specifically stated their objective in the best case scenario would be the seizing of the main gate which sounded like suicidal. With her war club in hand she sprinted out of the trench. She had to suppress her own emotions in front of everyone else. All of these people could die at the slightest show of hesitation on her part.
There had been no signal prior to the attack other than the whistling of the arrows headed for the unfortunate look outs.
At the gate walls three look outs were watching the open space outside the fort. There were some weird piles of foliage here and there, however, they didn't think anything of it for oftentimes animals would come and sit or near the secret dugouts the Hoshidan soldiers made. For this reason, it didn't cause any alarm bells to off until an entire squadron led by Akemi popped out from behind them.
"Hoshidan soldiers! Hoshidan soldiers at the gate!"
"What?" Northella cried in confusion rising from the spot she was telling her stories. She didn't remain that way for long for three bodies fell from the wall and hit the ground with a large, "Thud!" each.
She dashed over to them and found each soldier had been hit in the chest with deadly accuracy The arrows sticking out like a sore thumb as she grit her teeth and turned towards the gate. "We're going out there, now! We need someone outside the gate or on the wall so they can't get in!"
She then dashed to the gate and quickly pushed aside a young man guarding a lever to the giant door. "If anyone's with me we need to push back this scum!"
A roar filled the air and at least fifty soldiers came to her upon hearing these words. She pulled the gate lever with her big gauntlets and then as they ran out to face their foes she followed them. The door then shut behind them all as it was built to be that way for Hoshidan defensive purposes and someone new took her spot to re-open the gate as need be. Finally, out of the gated area she scanned the field of war and found everyone was engaging either a number of the Hoshidans oni warriors or samurai.
Her eyes fell upon one of the oni coming straight at her though with a big club. She took a defensive stance and cried, "I don't know what you're trying to do but go back to whatever holes you were hiding in!" Northella knew she needed to end this quick so that she might escape Fort Jinya and report her findings of the war to West. Things were bad if Hoshidan onis were coming out to attack a fort like the one right behind her. Onis were the equivalent of bandits in her world. The one coming at was a young woman with more padded armor and long robes then the typical savage. She had lovely brown hair and blue eyes and if there wasn't a war going on Northella felt she might be passable as a clothes model with her height, despite being crouched over.
That didn't matter as she blinked and for the first time in her life brought out a big, silver triangular shield to block her foe's first attack. The woman was a tad bit faster on feet it seemed so Northella was going to have barely anytime to do more beyond this. She needed to end this fight though with herself as the victor at all costs. She was likely to block the first hit but beyond that, due to her heavy, slowing armor, she wasn't really sure. Reporting back to West after being gone so long was the important thing here.
Note: I'll let you initiate combat first Akemi since you're faster then I am.
Of course there was a knight defending the gate. Akemi's eyes where not deceiving her in the least. this woman was wearing heavy armor, a big shield and a long naginata. Even if she could get close enough to strike first the chances of her winning a straight up fight where slim.
When fighting at such a clear disadvantage, Akemi had a knack for relying on more underhanded methods. Contrary to the popular belief Hoshidan soldiers where trained in how to exploit the enemy weaknesses no matter how ' dishonorable' it seemed. In the battlefield there was no such thing as cowardice after all.
Thinking on her feet Akemi picked up some rocks with her left hand, tossing them over to the Knightess. The Oni girl stopped her charge at a safe distance just outside the range of the naginata Northella was wielding and began launching pebbles all over her. These rocks wouldn't even scratch that thick armor but Akemi was planning on luring her over to more uneven ground where moving around with such armor would be problematic.
" Come on! get mad at me. " With a grin the green haired Oni continued hurling pebbles at the girl with the intent of making Northella lose her cool and act irrationally.

The tiny rocks bounced off of Northella's giant shield and plate armor yet Northella didn't budge. She simply peeked out over top of it with her great height and watched as the awful Oni grinned at her.
"I'm not coming to chase you demonic Hoshidan girl," Northella announced. "I know that's what you want."
She then ducked back under her shield and let her naginata come down and rest in a big notch on top of her shield. This allowed it to stick out horizontally and thrust forward in front of her as she needed it to. She intended not to take the girl's taunts even though she wanted to strip that girl of her weapon, knock her to the ground, and pummel her face in for thinking that she, Northella of all people, fell for a stupid trick like this. Why would she go to such lengths? Because this is exactly what their ninjas did and it is a reason why while on guard duty at Windmire she'd knocked one of the wall.
It was one of the few kills she was proud of since those fools threw rocks and sharp spinning disks exactly the same way this girl was. "Are you a damn ninja disguised as one of their fiery warriors?" Northella demanded keeping herself low to the ground, "If so, when I'm ready prepare to face the end of my lance. Or rather one of your own lances." She was in fact carrying a naginata and she wanted the girl to know it to understand she could possibly have no problem hurting her.
" No. I'm just here to keep you occupied so my comrades can capture the gate. " Akemi ran on the opposite direction, still hurling small pebbles at Northella a the edge of her weapons range. Due to the distance involved some which where hurled straight horizontally plummeted down, threatening to get between the really tiny gaps in her armor. Even if Northella ignored the constant harassment her protracted defense would only end up making her waste time. Akemi had an objective to fulfill and she had no issue sinking low to achieve it.
" That's right, cower behind your shield. you'll never catch any of us like that! " At the slightest sign of an attack she pulled back further into the uneven rocky ground surrounding the fort's entrance, if this woman wanted to get her then she would have to compromise or end up having Hoshidan troops threatening her flanks and rear.
The Group of soldiers that had come behind Akemi had now bypassed Northella while she was occupied answering to Akemi's unconventional taunts. Their attempts obviously ran into resistance form the Nohrian garrison.the clashing of steel and screams of agony filling the air surrounding the two women as the battle gained a degree of intensity.
For a mere probe these Hoshidans showed no mercy and neither was given in return. This had no become a brutal melee and each fighter was by itself.
"What if I just then backed over to the gate and plugged that hole you think you can just bypass? There'd be nothing you can do you annoying piece of trash. I don't really care if I hide behind it. It keeps me safe and has me not have to look at you unsightly, infuriating balloon chest for a short bit."
Northella then ducked even deeper behind her shield as she made fun of Akemi's body and slowly backed away from her back to the gate. She could hear the footsteps of people behind her either running towards the gate or engaging in fights with the rest of her forces. It wasn't going well for either side and Northella knew she needed to plug the hole in her forces, otherwise, the other army was going to reach the gate batter it down or climb the wall and open it. They didn't have the luxury of just smashing through it though, which was a good thing, because then the Hoshidans would need to not only occupy but rebuild the gate's front door. She definitely though was not going to let herself be pulled away from the gate too long in order for these things to happen. She needed to defend the fort then leave so she was able to report back to West the conditions of the war.
With the on going chaos it was extremely easy for Akemi to sprint towards Northella who was turtling herself into her defensive stance. Her being behind that shield worked perfectly on the Oni's favor since she couldn't' exactly see her next move. The nohrian would only take off her eyes of AKemi for one moment only to realize she wasn't there anymore. While not as robust in complexion Akemi didn't lacked any muscles and her legs where particularly well toned.
The sound of clashing steel masked her approach and by the time the Knightess realized she was right next to her. That gap was large enough to accommodate a group of people so she was dead wrong if she thought her being there really stopped anyone as evident on the dozen of Hoshidan soldiers now right behind her engaging the rest of the guards.
The Oni planted her feet firmly on Northella's exposed backside. Even if she couldn't knock the other woman over she used her weighty armor and robust complexion as a stepping stone to gain momentum so she could sprint past the soldiers and samurai fighting over control of the gate.
" Sorry! but I don't have time to play around with you anymore." That stalling tactic had worked well enough. so well there wasn't any need for Akemi to swing her club in hanger. The green haired girl rushed past the defenders sprinting at full speed.

"Augh!" Northella cried in rage. She had felt Akemi jump onto her back after the savage sneaked up on her and used her body as a stepping stone, however, she was unable to respond thanks to how slow and heavy her armor was. When she managed to turn around fully Akemi was way outside her range shouting some last minute taunt at her as she dashed for the gate.
"What I wouldn't give for a good Spear right now," Northella groaned finding herself still in Akemi's line of sight but unable to even reach her with her weapon. She ran after her anyway and cried, "Soldiers! Hold the gate! I'm heading for a trouble maker."
"Yes ma'am!" one of the soldiers cried in return, sadly, a katana ran straight through his armor causing him to collapse to the ground. A female soldier of all things took his place and within seconds revenge was taken on the sword wielding samurai with a strong thrust through his neck.
"I better hurry..." Northella cried hearing those weapon wielders clash behind her, "...otherwise we'll all end up dead." She now wished she trained in gaining some running speed for even at her fastest pace she could barely keep up with her own troops who were now forming around her in pursuit of Akemi. They had heard her desire to take on a trouble maker and came to assist. Some had javelins but fortunately for Akemi the soldiers had terrible aim and couldn't hit more then two or three feet behind her with each step she took to evade them.
" I'll be damned! they have more reinforcements than we've anticipated. " Akemi realized that there wasn't going to be a breakthrough today when she saw the lance wielding soldiers assemble in front of her. The current attrition rate was against them and if their own soldiers kept falling at this rate there wouldn't be anyone left.
Any sane commander would at this point give a general order for retreat but the Oni was now surrounded between a rock- in the shape of that stubborn knightess and a hard place. Running forward would be suicide at this point so she decided take her chances with Northella since she was mostly alone. With any luck she could once again keep that woman occupied for a little while longer in order to facilitate her comrades retreat.

Akemi went for the first strike, swinging her club with the intention of hitting Northella square on the side. Even if that armored absorbed most of the blow it would still be enough to stun her for a few precious seconds.
Northella came to a halt with her soldiers the moment Akemi turned on her and the moment she did these soldiers found themselves attacked by extremely desperate samurai near the walls. She had been lucky to get them otherwise Akemi could have gotten away. Nothella, now alone though, faced Akemi and found herself cornering the young woman. It wasn't a surprise as the young lady had done this to herself by annoying Northella. She blocked her only escape out of the area they were in at the base of the fortress.
When the woman's club swung at her Northella raised her shield and heard a loud, "Clang!" bang against it. The attack vibrated through her body but didn't damage her. That was lucky for it felt like it should have. "Perhaps she's just warming up?" Northella thought to herself.
"You've got spunk you Hoshidan, unfortunately, I beat people like your for breakfast. When I'm done with you I'll be sure to have someone take you into custody. But before then I need to show off real fighting prowess to you." Northella stated. She lowered her shield before lunging forward with her naginata in order to possibly thrust the long blade into Akemi's swinging arm.

The attack was successful Northella found herself ramming the end of her lance right into it's proper target, however, because she too was just getting started with this fight she found her strike only cut across the woman's arm rather then puncture it. The attack was good in mind none the less and Northella found it in her best interest to continue fighting as she crouched behind her heavy shield again. "This girl's going to be able to damage me unlike others for once. I can't take her lightly." She told herself focusing on the next attack in order to try and block it.1-100
Akemi had been able to keep that Naginata from severing her arm but that deep cut did start to bleed almost instantly. The loss of blood would make it harder to focus later.
" Why do you all Nohrians feel the need to blabber on and on? just shut up and fight. " Few things irritated Akemi more than pointless chatter. She wasn't really in the mood to listen to this Knightess stroke her ego so she took another swing, this time an over head attack aimed at Northella's head.

Northella HP 20/21 Northella's helmet protected her from Akemi 's second strike a blow that hit her across the top of her head. She shook her head and shut up in order not to bite her tongue. She intended to hit much harder with her next attack and turned the side of her lance before pulling it back. She'd then swing it forward like a horizontal sword strike and use it to cut through the girl's rib cage and the lighter armor containing it. Northella hoped to end this battle really quickly in order to do what she needed to do which was leave the field of combat and report back to West. Taking this girl with her didn't sound like a bad idea though in her mind as blood dripped down her head.

Northella's strike is successful she feels her blade shred through the light armor Akemi is wearing and this time knows by this that her strike is deeper.1-100
Akemi's HP 9/19 The Naginata was a weapon designed for wide sweeping motions as opposed to the simple thrust of the lances. The weapon performed poorly with such attacks but the raw strength behind the blow was still potent enough to cause some damage. The light armor Akemi donned was able to hold together but the raw strength behind the attack left its impression on her flesh, she'd almost fell on her side but was able to keep her feet planted on the ground.
The moment Northella attempted that type of strike against someone with slightly better armor it could end up costing her the edge of her own Naginata. of course Akemi wasn't going to tell this woman any of that.
" You Nohrian pig whore! " Cried the enraged Oni as she tried to cope with the intense pain. Had she been using a proper weapon and the proper technique there was no doubt it would have broken her rib and that would have been the end.
Right now Akemi was less than a soldier and more like pure distiller anger. She was so mad she completely disregarded the general retreat order that was issued. The rest of the Hoshidans beat a hasty retreat the moment a white flare went up on the night sky.
With the light the flare generated she was able to see the spot where her club had hit Northella's helmet. All she needed to do was continue to hammer away at that slightly dented spot over and over until the concussion knocked the other woman over.
Northella smirked at the hit she gave Akemi. It wasn't like her to do this under normal circumstances but the woman was on a level as annoying as Fierre might be. Then again, she'd not seen that crazy assassin in months so remembering what she was like was harder with each passing day now that she felt a second blow crack against her skull too.
"That hurts you damn wench! I think I'll capture you now and definitely feed your intestines to some dogs. Or better yet perhaps you'd do well in the hands of my fellow male compatriots. They know how to treat a fine woman as yourself to a good night." She wasn't going to actually do either but she felt like doing these things. Instead she wanted to simply capture her, chain her up, and force every bit of information she could get to flow from her vile lips.
It was getting hard to see with this second blow but Northella jumped back a little in her armor and now performed a spinning horizontal slash aimed at the other side of her rib cage. If this hit Northella knew the girl would likely be unable to stand much longer.

Northella yet again felt her naginata's edge tear through the young woman's rib cage. It was covered in blood as she wrenched it out and screamed, "Does it feel good to die you cur? If it does, answer by puking out your guts because as I see it that's all you Hoshidans are ever here to do. Kill us all for no reason other then the fact you can't stand our so-called vicious king. Granted, I think he's crazy but his sons aren't and they're the next in line so feel free to try and kill Nohr. It won't happen. They're too good for that."1-100
