After what seemed like days upon end, which in reality was about a few hours, Grant had caught sight of someone sliding close to the eastern walls. He had not seen many people patrolling the walls, much less at that time of the night. Considering the factors, he decided to cut him off halfway. His hours of scouring the exits and entrances had not been fruitless or so it seemed.
Climbing a flight of stairs lead him straight into the path armoured man. The rogue soldier paused.
“Out of my way dandy,” the lancer readied his weapon behind him. His demand was composed in a gruff tone. “I’m in a rush.”
“Of course you are.” Grant waved the bounty notice up in the air between two fingers. “Might this be the reason?” He asked as his free hand crept towards the hilt of his dagger. “Please do correct me if I am wrong.”
The man took a defensive stance with his feet slightly perpendicular and the tip of his spear pointing diagonally towards. “Suit yourself you pansy.” He smirked closing towards the butler. “You’re going to filled with holes by the time I’m through with you, and the funny thing is- folks won’t find your body on this part of the walls for a while.”
“Do you really think I’m stupid enough not to memorise the patrol routes before escaping?” His eyes burned with malicious intent in his charged.
Seeing as his adversary was on the offensive and he himself had little to no defensive options, he dashed forwards with both of his daggers drawn to meet him in a contest of martial prowess.
Combat Initiated!
| Turn 1 |
The combat scenario was almost a complete contrast for Grant. Compared to the hunter who relied on his stealth and careful planning to succeed in battle, the soldier was reckless- choosing to rely on his instinct and strength. Perhaps fate had chosen to test his skills by sending these two types of people, then again he did not believe in fate.
The soldier brought his spear up to point at Grant. His intention laid in using the butler's momentum against him to deliver a heavier strike at the very beginning of combat

Without pause, the spear slid past the young man's side in own dash- drawing blood from the side of his waist. It was not an exceptionally large wound, yet one that would deter him none the less.
His right eye twitched as pain flooded through his body. Adrenaline had not circulated enough to bestow him the resistance he needed to completely fight off the sensation. At any rate, he would not let it deter him. The soldier was now wide open, having the lance overextended.
An excellent chance to break his defences, or so he deemed. Therefore he swept diagonally upwards with the blade of his dagger in an attempt to tear through the man's armour. Usually blades against plate would do little to nothing, however when he applied it in a specific manner. . .

A large gash opened up in the soldier's chest piece. The man gasped at the impossible sight of a knife breaking through heavy armour. In his frantic state, he withdrew diagonally past Grant and brought a hand up to feel his chest.
His cocky attitude returned when he noticed there was barely any sort of injury at all. "Hah! And I was worried for a second there!"

Grant has the higher speed!
Tempted as he may be to say 'not exactly what I was aiming for', he did not. Instead he pushed back on his right foot to trace the movements of the man, bringing the blunt ends of his hilt downwards to slam on the man's protected front.
Rogue Soldier has [SPD -1, DEF/RES -2]!

Simultaneously, the attacks landed solidly. A burst of air exited his mouth along with a short yelp from the warrior was as he was knocked backwards. He barely managed to regain his footing after almost falling flat off his feet.
"Damn. . ." His breathing was dogged. Anyone could notice by now that the form he possessed was growing evermore slouched. The soldier now knew the danger of the situation he was in. "Listen. . . Listen." He held a hand up in front of himself. His weapon was still kept in front of himself as a defensive measure.
"I've been on the force for a while now, and that means I know a lot of people." Inch by inch, he circle the butler who paused to listen. "I don't know everyone in Nohr, sure, but I know for a fact that I've never seen you before and that you don't work for them."
This talk was what he needed to regain his posture. Grant was distracted and slowly, the lancer was getting his breath back.
"I stored some treasure just outside the border of Nohr." His tone grew to a hint of remorse. "What say you and I split it. . ." The moment was prime, all he needed was this clear hit.
"IN HALF!" The rogue shouted at the top of his lungs. He cleaved down with his spear with as much force as he could possibly muster.
1-100(Chance to hit: 86) (Damage: 4)
An attack that focused more on destructive power than technique or precision. Had Grant not sidestepped he might have been in a tight spot, but blow landed by the shaft of the pole arm onto his shoulder.

Grant is has the higher speed!
Enough talking had been done. It was clearly a distraction and he had seen through it from the very beginning. However, he decided to go along with it to see what the man might attempt. What he got was a cheap trick as expected. Hence he darted to the soldier with the aim of finishing him off. Two more blunt strikes using his daggers to his body would do the trick.

Knocked out cold and silent. As skilled as the soldier was, he was finished.
Once again, Grant would seal his wounds shut by channeling his healing ability. Then he would tie the soldier up and bring him in.
