Naito was here in Fort Jinya for the first time in his life. It had been a long time coming but he had joined up for a campaign to take over Fort Jinya. The General in charge was the old man that Naito had learned under as a child and in reality, Naito couldn't be happy about this. He could continue learning about battle tactics, how to create and defend a keep, and best of all, how one would be able to remain in control of 500 plus men. So in overall, Naito was just happy he was here; even if it meant he wasn't the one in control of the army.
As Naito and two of his men walked around the castle aimlessly, Naito felt eyes on him from almost every direction. Shaking his head slightly, Naito ignored the feeling of being watched and continued walking. His black armor almost seemed to shine in the candlelight, the lance that was attached to his back by the sheath making no sound, he looked intimidating if you were to truely watch him and the way he moved. He was worthy being called the 'black knight' or so many of his soldiers thought he did. Naito didn;t believe he was able to be called that just yet.
So here he was walking when he still felt the eyes on him. Slowly he stopped walking and spoke, "Whoever is there come on out. I've felt your eyes on me for a few minutes now, if you're that interested you can just come out and we can talk."
“My knight,” the woman spoke up. Her voice like a gentle breath in the darkness of the hallways. She walked from the shadows, a lantern balanced in her fingers. She approached from behind Naito. Lydia had been following him this from the entrance merely out of a coincidence. The elf looked up to the man with her deep green eyes. Her arms were burdened with a basket of herbs and vials. “It's not you that has captured my gaze. But rather the path before me. I thoroughly apologize if I have made you uncomfortable.”
The woman stood tall. There was an air of elegance that came with the elf. There was something in her that showed she was not afraid. Nor did she have anything to fear. Lydia was there on business. The nurse was there to replenish the stock of medicines and vulenary. She would too tend to a few injured soldiers while she was there. Most had been small cuts and broken limbs as a result from rigorous training. It was a welcomed change of pace from the clinic that she worked at back in Marcarth. Very, welcomed.
"My apologies Lady Healer. I am just accustomed to thieves and assassins in the night so my guard is well founded." Naito apologized as his eyes took in the sight of this elven lady. This woman, whoever she was, was extremely quiet and moved with a slight grace that Naito knew wasn't just from some random town. But then again, Naito was also from some 'random castle'. One never knew a person until they spent hours or days or even years with them. But there was one definite way to learn about the woman in front of him currently. Naito could challenge her to a game of chess, chess told him everything about a person that he needed to know. How they acted in battle, how they maneuvered around a certain place, and most of all how they viewed the war.
Naito then smiled at the lady and spoke. "No fault with you m'lady. In fact, I was heading down to the infirmary to check on one of my men if you would like to join me for a walk. In fact, I insist that you do. I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving you all alone around the men that are stationed here. Some of them can be down right cruel to those of the elven persuasion." Naito then offered her his arm so she could walk with him. Would she take this offer or would she turn it down? That was another test going on in his brain.
"Thieves and assassins," the woman purred. "That sounds wonderfully exciting. And dreadfully fearful. I'm fortunate that I haven't encountered one." The tone in her voice could easily show that she wasn't afraid. The man's comments bit her as being both sexist and racist. Even if that wasn't his intention, she knew he was looking down on her. A woman could never defend herself, after all. Part of her knew that he was right. Her knives could never penetrate armor. However, not all of these men were clad in armor. A light chime came to her voice when she responded back to the man. "I appreciate the escort," she played with him.
Oh! The man offered her an opportunity and Lydia took it. With a coy smile she slipped the basket of herbs and vials onto his arm. It might not have been what he expected but she would treat this man as a good gentleman. The woman rotated her shoulder the moment her arms were free. It felt wonderful to be free of that burden. Now the lantern in her hands was held much more comfortably. Lydia turned the knob to diminish the light. With the torchlight hallways the lantern was no longer needed. That was when she finally took her place beside the man. "Lead the way, m'lord"
Oh this woman was definitely a smart one, of that Naito had no doubt in his mind. When he had offered her his arm, he didnt expect her to put the basket in it, and dear god was this basket heavier than what it seemed. Shaking his head and then laughing slightly, Naito spoke. "Well this is definitely something I didn't expect Miss." With those words he began walking with her. Maybe the way he spoke earlier seemed racist and sexist, but it hadn't been meant that way.
As he walked he tried to come up with a conversation. It was a moment or so later that he decided to speak what was on his mind. "I apologize by the way. I'm not used to talking to elves, so it gets complicated; especially considering that your a rarity." Naito then blushed and bowed his head to her in respect.
The woman had shown no signs of being phased by his words. Lydia just walked on with that same sense of false dignity that she always held about her. For that brief moment, the only sound within the hallway was the soft clicking of her high heels. Her actions probably struck some kind of nerve within him. Good. As if reading her mind the man then apologized. In a sense at least. "A rarity, huh?" Although not intentional, he still treated her as a minority with his words. "So put me on display and ogle at me," the woman replied. The reply was curt, even if his blushing hadn't been missed. Maybe she was being a little too harsh on the man. Perhaps it was a little bit out of line to be talking to a soldier with.
"I could say the same for you, you know." The woman turned her head to look at him. While she was the rarity he said she was, this man was going out of his way to talk with her. He hadn't even bothered to complain about the basket she forced into his hands. Lydia ran her fingers through her long strands of hair, adjusting it so it was neatly tucked behind her ears. "It's not very often I encounter a real gentleman. Most people would have turned and walked away after they met me." A light smile formed on her lips. She knew her place. "Don't worry, sir knight. With every passing year, I have grown more accustomed to it. Besides, they always wind up biting their tongue when death is just a breath away. Funny how that works out." Even if it was just temporary.
