Indignation is a Fire Emblem Roleplay. It takes place within the Outrealms as worlds collide and kingdoms wage an endless war. However, amongst the quarrels of men do the horrors of the Outrealm reach in to kill and destroy. Fight alone or join forces with other warriors as we create dramatic tales or wage war!

Stepping outside of the inn, Fensir let out a deep yawn and reached high into the sky as he stretched his tired limbs. As his eyes adjusted to the blinding light of the sun, Fensir noticed that it was well into the afternoon. Typical, he thought. Most of the small town's villagers were going about their day. He watched as a man drew water from a nearby well. The villager's clothes were quite ragged, an obvious sign that the man routinely worked in the fields. The villager carried the bucket back to his property and dumped the water into a trough for his horses before noticing Fensir's presence.
"You interested in buyin' this horse, or are you just going to keep staring?" the villager prodded.
"Uhmm... no thanks."
"Well move along then!"
Fensir ignored the villager's attitude and had already started walking away before he had a chance to respond. The confrontation wouldn't be worth the fine and however many days spent in jail for beating up an old man. He casually strolled down the dirt path past several rows of houses and finally made his way to the flimsy wooden gate that marked the town's borders.
As he approached the gate, Fensir noticed that it was barred shut. Two guards wearing the generic attire given to low-ranking members of the Hoshidan military stood in his way, ensuring that the gate remained closed. They each carried their own bronze naginata which were visibly dull from misuse. As Fensir closed the distance between himself and the gate, the guards noticed him and motioned for him to stop.
"Halt! No one is permitted outside these gates until further notice."
"...and why's that?" Fensir questioned as he shifted his weight to his right side.
"A pack of doogs has been sighted nearby. The gates are to remain closed for the safety of the village," one of the guards replied.
Fensir narrowed his brow as he rested his right hand on the pommel of his katana, clearly disinterested in the guards' commitment to duty. Were these guys really planning on shutting down the only way in or out of this village because of a handful of wild mutts? He took a single step towards the gate, but the guards quickly readied their weapons to defend their position.
"Really? I'll just take care of the doogs on my way out," he said, hoping to relieve the tension.
The guards tightened their grip on their weapons, making it clear that no one had permission to pass for the time being. Fensir turned around and took a couple steps, letting out a long sigh. He needed to find a way out of the village before the sun went down. Mostly because he couldn't afford to spend all his earnings at the bar again.

A lovely young woman sauntered down the path with a little sway in her step. She was dressed in a blue kimono with a salmon pink obi, her head adorned with a straw hat that hid most of her facial features within the dusk shadow, sans her pretty pink lips and angular chin. In her arm was a closed parasol with a floral pattern, and on her back was a long, thin box of curious making.
Up ahead was a small scene between a fairly young fellow and a couple of the town guards, and so it seemed that the gate had been closed for the evening. Luckily for her, the information passed within the bureau had notified her of this town's security, thus her plans were unhindered compared to the poor guy.
The lass stopped just before he would pass her by and spoke to him.
"Did they close the gate on you?" she inquired with a simper, "Rather rude of them, hmm?" Fensir

As he paced back towards the village and away from the gate, Fensir lowered his head in thought. Perhaps he could have just one drink to clear his head and lighten the mood. Then he could try to find a way out of this miserable village. He came to a halt and kicked up a bunch of rocks and dust out of frustration. As a light breeze carried away the dust, Fensir noticed a young woman had stopped in front of him and commented on his predicament.
"It would seem so," he replied.
Raising his eyes, Fensir discovered the voice belonged to a rather well-dressed woman. She seemed innocent enough, but it was obvious from the way she was dressed that this town was not her home. Then again, he was just passing through as well. The villagers here had more reason to be suspicious of him than he had to be of her.
The straw hat she wore hid most of her face, concealing her identity for the time being. Still, the tone in her voice implied that she knew something he was unaware of. Perhaps with a bit of small talk, he could pry it out of her.
"You seem a bit out of place. Where are you headed?" he asked inquisitively.

"Fufufu... you're observant. I'm actually a bit of a scholar, myself," she bobbed her head to him, "But where I come and where I go is really my own business, just as yours is for trying to leave during gate closing hours." Her head tilted against the sunlight to look over his shoulder to the gate, "Ah... but the poor dears. They're all afraid of the doogs that circle around the town's vicinity. I hear they've stepped up security due to a tragic accident involving the chief's dearest child a while back."
The woman lay her parasol against her shoulder and put the fingertips of her right hand on the edge of her bottom lip, "Ah, but that makes you trapped for a while, doesn't it? I plan on taking off when they open up again... hmmmm..." Her hat dipped down, "... but that might not be for a while..." Fensir

Fensir smirked as she commented on his observation. He felt a bit overzealous about his deductive skills, but that feeling quickly faded away as her attitude shifted to one of secrecy.
"Fair enough," he replied.
The woman kept her business to herself. For now, at least. So, the chief's kid went and got himself hurt... or worse? That explained why the guards were serious about fulfilling their duties for once.
"Figures. The one time these guys decide to do their job is when I'm trying to leave," Fensir remarked.
He crouched to relieve the strain in his legs and looked up at the sky. The sun was still well above the horizon. Fensir contemplated an attempt to scale the walls surrounding the rest of the village, but it was far too bright outside. He could probably do it under the cover of night, but then he might run into those doogs everyone is so worried about. One or two he could handle, but enough to shut down an entire village? That was another matter altogether.

The woman shrugged her shoulders, "Mmm... who knows? Could take a day when the coast is clear, or maybe they're deliberately delaying foreigners from leaving so that they could fill their coffers with coin. Thinking of good reasons, or working with their bad excuses, how the imagination runs wild!" She let out a light giggle and shook her head, "Ah, but it all falls to what you want to do in the end, right? Places to go, people to see..."
Her hands clasped together, "... Hmhmhm... so what will you do? Going to stay the night at the ramshackle inn with the subpar sake? That's really the only thing there is to do around here, isn't it?" Fensir

Fensir slowly pushed himself back to his feet and brought a hand up to his chin. Anyone passing by would likely assume he were deep in thought, but if they could hear what he was thinking it would have been a string of incoherent curse words that would leave even a drunken sailor speechless.
"Well," Fensir blurted out loud.
He paused hoping a light bulb would go off in his head, but to no avail. The young lady was right. He was stuck here, at least for the night. At least the inn actually served food and drink, which was a lot better than the last place he was forced to stay at. Regardless, it was a long ways to Shirasagi and he couldn't afford to spend what was left of his last bounty on drinks. At this rate, he might be forced to take another job before he makes it home anyway.
"One drink," he finally continued, holding up a finger.

The woman let out a delighted laugh, "Is that an invitation, stranger? What a pleasant fellow you are!"
With graceful, delicate movement, she slid her hand under his arm and closed the distance between them. From here, she was certain that he could see the rest of her gorgeous face.
"Call me Fife," said she almost to a whisper, "Let's share each other's troubles until the dawn of the next day." Fensir

As Fierre closed the distance between the two of them, Fensir realized just how stunning this woman was. Just who was this girl? Ordinary women didn't have a face that mesmerizing. Was she royalty, or just really, really lucky? His face turned slightly red as she wrapped her arm around his and revealed her name.
"I-I'm Fensir," he stammered.
How this young lady saw right through him would probably haunt him forever. In the back of his mind Fensir knew that he could use the company, but he would never admit it. Pleasant was a word not often used to describe him, but he would take it. It was better than drinking alone.
As the two of them strolled through the village towards the inn, they passed the same old farmer from earlier in the day. He was still just as dirty, but now he had taken off his hat as the sun had dropped low enough to prevent its usefulness. The man gave Fensir a dirty look as they passed, but he was too preoccupied to notice.
Finally reaching the entrance of the inn, Fensir pushed open the door and motioned for Fierre to go first.

"Fensir," Fife repeated with a nod. What an interesting name! It sounded more Nohr than Hoshidan... perhaps he was somehow a mix of the two cultures?
Regardless, they had reached the inn, thus Fife followed along with his gentlemanly gesture.
"My, how quaint," she smiled as she tipped her hat off of her head to hang off her neck. Such a movement revealed her radiant blonde hair, which was braided into a neat bun with a comb holding it all together. "First round is on me. How's that sound?"
Upon their entrance, there were those within the tavern that took almost immediate notice and ogled at her with fascination.
"How beautiful, how beautiful!" they whispered among themselves.

Gorgeous and offering to pay for drinks? Could it get any better?
"Can't say I've ever turned down a free drink," he replied.
As they stepped inside the building, Fensir noticed a couple familiar faces from the previous night. No one noticed him yesterday, but Fife's presence had most of the bar in a trance. An older gentleman sat at the bar rambling incoherently. In his drunken stupor he would occasionally raise his voice, but it was anyone's guess as to what he was yelling about.
Fensir picked a table that was dimly lit, which was the best you could find in a tavern. The small table sat a few feet away from the northern wall and was made of hard wood, like most furniture in the village. A barkeep had made his way over to the table before the pair even had a chance to sit down.
Wonder why he's so enthusiastic, huh? Fensir contemplated, though he knew exactly why the man was so prompt. The barkeep was entirely focused on Fife.
"Welcome, welcome!" the man blurted out. "What can I bring this lovely young lady? Food? Drink? Anything you want!"

Ahh, how fun it was to wrap them around her finger. Beauty was quite a convenient thing!
Fife smiled warmly at his answer, "Wonderful."
Just before they had even seated, the barkeeper had personally come to serve them. Cheeky fellow!
"Atsukan," she answered him, "And maybe an order of dumplings if you have any at the moment..." Her eyes switched to Fensir, "What would you like, dear? Go ahead and order anything you'd like." She dropped onto a cushion in a finely practiced seiza and placed her hands on her lap.

"I'll just have the same," Fensir replied. "So two atsukan and an order of dumplings? Very good!"
The barkeep bowed towards them and quickly disappeared into the back room to work on their order. As Fife sat down with impeccable grace, Fensir opted for a more comfortable position and plopped down on the pillow.
"Formalities never were my strong suit." With a light chuckle, he added, "Just don't tell my mother."
Fensir turned his gaze towards an open window and couldn't help but wonder if the gate really would open tomorrow. It was still relatively bright outside, but the sun was beginning to near the horizon. The sunlight streaked in through the open window, painting the floor various shades of yellow and orange.
Maybe going home was a waste of time, he thought. It wasn't like his father was going to welcome him with open arms. He shrugged to himself and attempted to clear his mind. It was out of his hands for the time being anyway.

Fife let out a delighted chuckle, "Hmhmhm! My lips are sealed, then." She inched herself forward in her seat so that her knees were slightly beneath the low table. "Hmhm, but you must've been quite the deviant child. I can't imagine a Hoshidan household that wouldn't do its darndest to raise well-behaved children, if not exceptional... ah, but I suppose it does vary from each house what 'well-behaved' means to them. Even so, I digress." To an intentional change of subject.
Her hand raised to her chin and grasped the very edge of it, "... What do you think of doogs, Fensir? Dangerous little puppies, aren't they?"

She wasn't wrong. Most Hosidan families did stick to tradition and culture, part of which was the strict mannerisms expected from each individual. Fensir's family was no different. They were perhaps even more strict, considering his family's military history. However, Fife quickly changed the subject, so the question was left unanswered for the time being.
"Doogs," Fensir said. The annoyance in the tone of his voice was quite apparent. "Not much of a threat individually. It's their numbers that make them lethal."
Fensir's line of work kept him relatively close to civilization and well traveled roads, but every now and then he would run into a stray. On their own, doogs were largely predictable, but a pack of them could easily overwhelm a single person.
As he finished speaking, the barkeeper returned with drinks and the dumplings, gently placing everything on the table. He bowed quickly and returned to his work.
