Historia flew high against the overcast heavens. Filtered sunlight which came through the clouds cast twisted shadows upon Vasto's back. A chill tailwind blew by, and the two flew faster. Ever since she had recovered from her spinal injury, she had been re-positioned at Fort Dragonfall. It was a bustling mess, honestly, as there currently wasn't a commander. Some of her fellow Wyvern Riders had collectively agreed to a system of patrols, and it just happened to be their turn.
She took in a deep breath and let the wind rustle her hair. Vasto let out a small humming growl, as if trying to communicate. She patted his back. "Alright," she spoke softly. Every word carried on the breeze. "It's time to land." With a gentle shift of his wings, the two began to glide slowly towards the ground. They hit the hard packed earth with a soft thump, and the patrol was over. She yawned and stretched, nodding to the next wyvern team who would be on patrol. Historia climbed off the saddle and onto the ground before she began to aimlessly wander. She had lots of free time... She wondered vaguely if something interesting would happen.
Whether desperation or impatience, Ethan Leigh was growing reckless. Nohrian soldiers no longer frightened him and the prospect of facing Campbell again was enticing. His time in Hoshido had changed him. No longer reluctant, the wanderer was ready to fight anyone that stood in his way. This was his war just as much as it was anyone else's.
That's what Ethan brought Ethan to the fort, the war. He glanced about. The area stood clear. No troops. No enemies. He broke cover. Blue, unkempt hair bounced along his shoulders as he crept closer to the fort. His intention, survey as much of the grounds as he could. It was a personal recon mission. If Hoshido wasn't going to take the place back, he'd take it for himself. He turned the corner, finding a soldier in front of him. A single soldier. Ethan smirked.
"Hey there." He called with a hand out. "I've been travelling for a while and I'm gladly looking for a place to get something to eat. Would you be able to point me the right way?"

A man with blue hair stood behind her. Vasto made a strange half-bark, half-growl sound. He wasn't too sure of the situation... When he asked where to get some food, her suspicion skyrocketed. "Sure, I'd love to show you some places to eat!" she exclaimed happily and in a friendly manner. Her posture then dropped into a slightly sulking position. "...Is what I'd say if we weren't all starving. If you were Nohrian, you'd know that." She sighed. "You know what? That was a little rude. If you agree to leave the fort alone, I'll show you some nearby towns where you could spend the night and give you some of my rations. I've had a long day... I'd rather talk things through than get into a fight." she admitted honestly. Her axe glinted on her hip, but she made no motion of reaching her hand towards it.
Ethan's brow rose. "I'm not going to take your food, but I'll take that escort. Been wandering through the area, kinda just approached the nearest structure. Believe me." Ethan said firmly. "I'm not looking for a fight, but people dressed in Nohrian armor tend to bring me trouble." Gray, cautious eyes danced to the wyvern. "Especially those with winged mounts."
The wanderer's hand rest at his belt loop, near his sword. His casual stance left him open to words, but made no attempt at hiding his will to fight. "So stranger. Would you kindly point the way?"

"Wyvern riders bringing you trouble?" Historia asked. "Hm... I'll talk to them a bit, see what I can do. Corruption runs deep, even in the army, no matter how loathe some of my companions are to admit it. With luck, however, I can nip this in the bud. You shouldn't be harassed by the wyvern brigade any longer." She scratched the back of her neck awkwardly. Vasto, meanwhile, craned his scaly neck and nudged her forwards. She opened a satchel on the side of her partner's saddle, rooting around for a map. When she brought out a squared piece of paper, she unfurled it and offered it to the stranger. "See these little triangles here," -the said triangles looked messy, as if drawn in by hand- "and these squares? The less sides the shape has, the safer the town is, and the smaller, the less people there are. Your best bet is this town here-" she promptly pointed towards a big triangle "...but the closer area is this town here." she pointed towards a small square that was only a few miles from the fort. She was completely oblivious to his hand moving closer to the weapon, but even if she saw it, she wouldn't have reached for hers. Talking things through was easier and, in her experience, more effective than violence.
"Stranger." Ethan said in grim tones. "But you won't change their mind. You're right. Corruption runs deep, deeper than anything you or I could change." The wanderer glanced at her map. "I'll gladly take one of the smaller town though. Those are often far safer for travelers."
His distaste for Nohr was evident in his tone and damning ideals. Every so often, he'd glance towards the wyvern. His discomfort was completely evident.

She tilted her head as he talked. Something seemed to call out to her, something- stark realization struck. "How did Nohr hurt you?" she asked quietly, posture changing completely. He glanced towards Vasto a few times, who merely tilted his head and sniffed the air a bit. He bowed down his head and licked her hand once, getting the corners of the map wet with draconic saliva. "Vasto!" she scolded, but the wyvern remained obstinate and licked her hand once more before standing upright on all fours, wings tucked in tightly and almost resembling legs. She rolled her eyes beneath her iron mask and scratched him behind where his ear holes would have been. Awkward silence followed. "Would you like me to escort there, or would you prefer to go yourself?" she asked.
"Doesn't matter." Ethan said. His voice was somewhat firm, yet flirted with uncertainty. Gray eyes dulled and his hand left the sword's handle in peace. He already knew the way and his confident start towards the town made that clear. "You're free to come if you want. God knows you're probably tired of whatever they give for rations. Your pet would probably appreciate the exercise. I've seen the pens they keep them in. It's uncomfortably cramped."
He strolled casually down the road, yet kept a hint of caution. There were others around. There always were and there was a certain level of doubt at their friendliness. Even this stranger, who seemed a bit different from their normal rowdy bunch, could be a threat and that's why he hoped she walked with him.

She was indeed tired of rations... And Vasto didn't get the best sleeping accomodations, that much she could agree with. She nodded and walked alongside him, noting his body language. Was it possible that he'd been here before? She looked around the scenery, eying towering trees and damp valleys. She needed to identify the landscape and possible landmarks if she wanted to return later tonight, after all. Vasto made a weird noise once more, something like a low pitched bark. No clue what it meant seemed to come from her partner. Maybe it was the fact that he's never been down here before, and was a bit nervous? Maybe it was the stranger? Hmm... She stretched, her armor clanking and attracting Vasto's attention. He licked her shoulder once and continued hobbling around awkwardly. It was a little funny and very cute to watch. Wyverns were creatures of the sky, not the ground. She looked upwards, trying to identify the time but clouds obscured any stars or sunlight. Shaking her head, she continued walking with the stranger.
The silent air seemed thicker. The wyvern, possibly distressed? His hand drifted back towards the sword. He knew nothing of wyverns. He's had brief encounters with them, but nothing informative. Wyvern or not, Ethan knew enough to know when an animal was uncomfortable. Gray, cautious eyes bounced about.
