"Very well," Hadassah nodded as a wide, proud smile appeared on her face, "Say so in the first place. I do not mind you speaking your mind to me, Grant."
Once more, she unhooded herself, thus the X-shaped scar was there to be seen. While it may have been an ugly sight to some, she was proud of it.
"They say a scar is a lesson," the manateke uttered as she felt it, "A hard lesson, but one that is worth the trouble on the road of life."

A short and silent, yet great sigh of relief was let loose by Grant. He was still very much flustered on the inside from their prior action and his own thoughts, nevertheless he made an attempt to seem as if he was not so. Of course, his cheeks were still a slight tinge of, albeit fading, red.
“Very well,” he peeled his gloves off one hand and then the other. After doing so, he brought his hands to the sides of her cheeks gently. A closer inspection of the scar was what he wanted. A closer inspection of the scar was what he got.
His eyes trailed along from beginning to end, from one side to the either, and directly in the middle at the pace of a snail. The more he looked at it, the more he wanted to attempt to heal it. Though the Manakete had already stated her perspective on it, he would try to speak his mind once more.
“A hard lesson it is, Miss Hadassah .” His gaze shifted to meet her own. “In theory and if allowed, I should be able to ‘heal’ this wound per say. It would ease both pressure and pain, felt if you were to make contact with it.” The butler paused. His expression showed slight hints of trouble perhaps directed towards himself. He was unsure if his offer might have been offensive to her.
“None the less, my magical prowess, or rather my lack of it, forbids me from removing the scar as a whole.”
The manakete blinked at the prospect of having her scar somewhat healed. True, the scar would indeed gently throb every time something would brush against it. A mild irritation, but nothing that warranted much attention.
Yet, as much as she took pride in her scars, if they were inflamed or infected, it was wiser to have it taken care of immediately. It made no sense to proudly carry a debilitating effect if one could be healed of it. Regardless, the process wouldn't be so simple...
"A kind offer, Grant," Hadassah said with a fold of her arms, "Even so, this wound was sustained in my true form by another of my kind. If you were to heal it, I would have to stand before you as a dragon." She bowed her head as she hooded herself once more, "That said, we should get out of the open road if we are to attempt such a thing. Let's take to the forest where there are no prying eyes to behold me."

“Indeed the most sensible next step,” Grant nodded slightly as he began to wear his gloves. Comfort was to be found by him in the fact that his guide was so very capable of putting aside her pride when her health came into subject. On the contrary, the prospect of having to view her as a dragon stirred up a mild hesitation within him.
The butler had his doubts when it came to creatures that he had never seen before in his life. A person with as sharp of a cunning as his was almost never devoid of suspicion. What made him even more uncertain was knowing that he had no evidence to suggest she was malevolent in any sort of manner, yet he felt as another human would in the presence of a Manateke. Although being true to her had no negative effects so far, he was wary. As far as he knew, she had no reason to dispose of him quite yet. Trust was what kept him so far. Trust was what would sustain him into putting himself at risk.
He turned his head from left to right. Nothing but wilderness for miles, save for the town behind them. A short lived stay in Cyrkensia. Regardless the butler would not miss the experience- he was far too distracted with what the outcome of trusting his acquaintance might be.
The forest would provide the best cover for a creature of any size should they venture deep enough, and none could boast of a more optimal environment for a survivalist than lush timberland. As he is a butler, Grant would benefit from learning how to fully support any future master of his should they be stranded in the wilderness. After all, a part of Hadassah's goal was to educate others on how to survive.
Such was told to Grant.
"The epitome of survival is to look out for one's basic needs," lecture Hadassah as they strolled through the woods, "Food and water are important, but more so water. According to my research on a healthy sentient creature, food can be foregone for nearly three weeks as the body naturally begins to eat away at the fat storage within the body to subsist nourishment. However, a human must always have a stable water supply, as I have witnessed myself that, at most, three days without water will lead to death from dehydration. One must be aware that at higher elevations, water tends to evaporate faster in the body than it does at a lower elevation, thus it is imperative for one to seek lower elevation..."
The manakete turned toward the butler, "Did you get all that? We're quite far into the woods now, thus we must locate a body of water or a stream for you to survive on."

New information was often well received by him, useful knowledge especially. Albeit he had a few questions here and there about differing factors which may cause one’s body to require more or less sustenance, he was silent. He wished to listen more in this scenario than to speak. Ultimately, what she was telling him was of great interest to any survivalist. Furthermore it could be used when in times of travel whether or not he had a master.
And with the asking of a question, it was time for him to speak his own part. “I did, Miss Hadassah.” He punctuated his reply with a slow nod of his head. “Though I do not understand how you have discovered humans stored fat and use it for this purpose without dissecting a body. . .” The butler stated in jest prior to moving on to his regular calm, yet somehow serious tone. “I do however would like to add that exercising one’s body could lead to starvation and dehydration at a much faster rate. Nevertheless, I have no doubt that you already know of such.”
He lingered upon her last statement for a moment, brushing the tips of his fingers against one another briefly. “That is of upmost importance as you have said.” Grant brought his right palm up at shoulder height as he asked a question on his end. “My only concern now is how to tell if a body of water as you mentioned is safe to drink from.”
With as much seriousness could be seen from her face, Hadassah spoke, "I confess that I've had the unfortunate privilege of studying the corpses of the healthy and malnourished dead in the span of the last few years." She brushed the bottom of her chin and closed her eyes, "... I will save you the details of my research in full, but this was during the beginning of the war between Nohr and Hoshido."
Regardless of his thoughts, she moved right along with her hands clasped behind her back.
"The best way to know if there is drinkable water is when the water is moving. New puddles during and a little after rainfall, a white-water river, a lake that has both an inlet and outlet, these are some examples. Lakes and rivers are the best resource, as it is likely that there are fish to feed on, thereby you may kill two birds with one stone."
After a brief pause, she posed the question, "Do you know how to fish, Grant?"

Such a sudden shift in tone. Grant had not expected such a heavy hearted reason to be prompted from a simple joke. It surprised him no doubt, however he would not show any signs of his emotion being as such. If it was not obvious to him before, he knew now that Hadassah had experienced much more hardship than he had done so in probably his entire life. Perhaps staying silent and only answering when asked was for the best.
Listening along, he marched after her. Civilisation was growing ever so sparse with each step they took. The last hut they had passed was at least a mile away judging by how densely packed the trees had gotten. Any signs of a trail leading back into the town would have been appreciated by him.
Instead he found none. He had to commit to her advice if he wanted to live long. In any case, he would make sure to boil any water he drank in the future to evade the awful taste of dirt.
“With a rod, yes.” He replied. “Though, I do not suppose I will be using one of those any time soon.”
"That is correct," was her reply. From then on, she was silent the rest of the way.
The trek came to a halt as they arrived at a small clearing. A few tree stumps stood in a semi-circle formation around a patch of dirt ground. Several tall saplings grew nearby, and a dead tree also lay on its side further down with fungus growing on it. The area itself was wide enough for a regular caravan cart to camp.
"Let's stop here for a bit, Grant," said Hadassah as she sat down on one of the stumps, "Best to catch your breath and take a look at our assets." She removed her cloak, revealing a practical leather bag at her side, along with a folded, three-piece shaft slung across her back by a leather strap. On her left thigh was sheathed a pearly white bone dagger with a crude wrapping of animal skin to mark its handle.

Finally, he could take a break from the monotonous walking. Grant did not find the trip to be gruelling or tiresome more so than boring. The Nohrian woods did not provide any sort of notable flora, nor had he seen any of the fauna. Regardless, the butler had a slight liking for inventory checks.
A low hum escaped him as he placed his burlap bag leaning against a stump. It contained extra pairs of clothes he had, not that he could not afford to obtain more from any local shops. The hassle of having to purchase new clothes was too much for him. On top of the stump, he situated a much smaller leather pouch which, upon being put, resonated with the jingle of gold.
With a skilled flick of his wrists, he drew two bronze daggers to add laying next to his pouch. The scabbards from which they came followed duly. Strangely enough, he kept one of his three daggers on him. Though it remained sheathed.
Neat and tidy- almost as if the items were on display in a shop.
He pivoted himself on his heel to face Hadassah. “And with that, I await further directions.”
Hadassah brought her eyes to Grant's inventory and nodded, "Good. I'll hope you have a canteen of some sort in that bag of yours."
She opened her satchel and pulled a small, yet tall, crude pot from it, "North of our position is a lake. We'll collect water and whatever edible resources that is available." She collected her equipment to herself once more, pulled the cloak back on, and stood back up, "Off we go. It shouldn't be more than a ten minute hike there and back."
Thus, she turned north and started walking.

One swipe of his right arm and the items were now back from whence they came.
Grant rummaged silently through his bag as he followed after his guide. True, he had everything he really needed save for cooking utensils and consumables, but finding them while walking was a different sort of task all together. He struggled not to look like a fool as he walked while one of his arms was buried in the sack. Lucky enough for him, he did not keep any daggers in there or he would surely have received the blade of one to the back of his hand by now.
Shortly after, he managed to extract a water skin from the seemingly extra dimensional space that is his bag. . .
. . .At which he noticed that they had already arrived at the destination.
“Peculiar,” he thought to himself. Grant then slung his bag back over his shoulder and began to speak. "I suppose this is the lake you spoke of?"
"This is it," Hadassah nodded as she took her bag off and laid it down on a rock.
The manateke pulled off her cloak and began breathing in long and deep, then she began to stretch her arms and her chest. The tri-fold shaft was stacked together into a stable pipe, which was then tipped with the sharp bone dagger. A folded sack was taken out of her satchel and wrapped across her torso.
"Would you mind building a fire, Grant?" she asked as she walked toward the shore, "I'll get us something to eat."
Odd rhythm: Learned at level 1 If a unit equipped with this skill has their turn set during an odd number in the turn order, they get +10 to their HIT and the enemy gets -10 to their HIT.
“A fire. . .” The butler repeated to himself. “I shall try, Miss Hadassah.”
In truth, he had only ever lit fires using flint and tinder. He knew a few things about making a fire, but had not exactly performed it himself. Firstly, he needed to find a dry material to catch heat easily, the tinder per say, and then the fuel for his fire. Easily found were dry twigs laying scattered around trees. The more complicated parts were finding something to act as his tinder and actually having to make the fire. Burning wood was a near impossible task without a great enough fire first.
A stroke of fortune. Not too far from the bank were patches of dry grass found by him. He could, and most certainly would, use it. Though as it was, it would prove ineffective in lighting a fire. He began to weave it into a messy clump to allow for air to pass through. Now was the moment of truth.
Grant began placing pebbles in a circular formation around the sticks he leaned upon each other. After building his crude construct, he drew a dagger hesitantly and struck it’s blade against a flat rock at an angle- hoping to get a spark.

Even during the time as Grant attempted to light a fire, Hadassah's head was above the water. She had taken a glance back at the man and let out a little chuckle.
"Try again, Grant," she called, "If you don't, I'll have to teach you how to properly light a fire." Shortly after she spoke, she took a deep breath and submerged beneath the water. This she did several times, and every time the length of time she remained beneath became longer and longer.
Soon enough, she was beneath the water for five minutes at a time.
