With both countries filling the road with marching troops, bandits stalking the woods, and unruly bands of faceless prowling about the towns, traveling was beginning to become a hassle. And for someone like Ethan Leigh, traveling had become life. Hiding from the Nohrian soldiers grew tiresome. They asked too many questions, didn't have enough answers.
Uncertain waters washed upon wooden docks. They pulled away dirt and whatever stones people tracked onto well-worn jetties. Stacked crates sat by some of the larger freight ships and Ethan briefly wondered if his captain friend was docked. He didn't really know what the ship looked like, so that question died down fast.
A commercial boat, from locations unknown, slowed itself until it rested along the same brittle dock as Ethan. He watched a seaman announce land as he lowered stairs. Various travelers were making their way into the new land of Cyrkensia, probably in hopes of finding a new life. Ethan leaned against the piled brick wall, content with watching them.
Two men stood suspiciously eyeing the pilgrims. They whispered things between each other and pointed on occasion to different people. The wanderer recognized brigands immediately, but waited to see what they would do.
Their target picked, they followed after a man dressed in fancier attire. The group moved from the dock and took to the streets. Ethan kept a slight distance as he tailed them. Finally, the men approached the pilgrim and said. "Oi there stranger. You think you could spare a few pieces of gold?" Their rough voices told him that it wasn't a question.

As the island came into view from the horizon a new hope rose for Grant. By no means was he completely unwary of any challenges that might arise from coming to a foreign land, rather the enthusiasm of adventure seemed to block out any negative emotion at the time. For once in his life he felt like a child- one with eyes wide open at the discovery of an alien theme no less.
The more he stared, the closer the ship had gotten. Nearer and nearer until he heard a loud thump of the stairs landing upon the dock. He had no reason to hastily remove himself from the vessel so he let the other passengers proceed first of course.
The first step in a completely foreign land. A concept undreamt of by Grant himself even while aboard the ship. Not much did he have on him. Perhaps a burlap bag or two to contain his own belongings, but he would make the most of what he had.
As the two men approached and spoke he cocked a wary eyebrow. His expression was blank for the most part as he contemplated the situation. “Ah, yes.” His voice rang out in a mild, composed tone. “Anything to assist those in need.”
Grant had decided that the trouble was not worth it. Especially in a new country where he had no connections. As such, he raised a small coin pouch with his left hand- containing a measly THREE gold.
"Three gold?" One of the brigands questioned. A look of annoyance played across his dirty face. "Times are tough buddy. We're going to need more than three gold. In fact, a hell of a lot more."
"Alright Benny, cut the act." His partner said, drawing a dagger. "We both know what this is so why don't you just save us the trouble of gutting your sorry ass. Hand over all your coin."
"Hey now." Ethan said, making his presence known. "What kind of welcome are you giving this poor man? Think about it. What if you had just gotten to a new place, mind all full of wonder." His hand danced up, twisting with practiced elegance. "And you have a couple of no good, lowlife, pieces of trash trying to rob you. I don't know about you, but that doesn't exactly sound like a pleasant welcome."
"Back off blue, unless you're looking to get cut." The knife wielding man threatened.
"You really that eager to throw your life away?" Ethan asked.

Grant blinked three times in a row. He was surprised, yes, but not exactly on immense scales that he was being robed. What he was more astonished by was the fact that someone came to his aid.
At that moment, he was unsure of how to react. The easiest route would be to run away due to the fact that he would get in trouble for engaging them in combat. However, that path seemed like the probable most boring path to undertake.
The young man turned his attention towards Ethan. For a moment he paused to examine the man that stood at his aid and not one moment longer. Shortly after eying down the two brigands with the previously mentioned blue haired warrior, his right hand crept slowly towards the hilt of his own bronze dagger.
“To the name of whom that may assist me, I do not know.” Grant announced casually. “In any case, I do own you my thanks.”
There he stood at attention, curious as to what the actions of the three people would be before taking a response, whether harsh or just, in his own return.
The two brigands looked back towards their would be victim and Ethan drew his iron sword quickly. They turned as he freed it form its sheath. The brigand reacted fast, swiping at Ethan with his dagger only to have it parried by the empty scabbard. With practiced flourish, the wander struck his blade at the man.

His aimed hit managed to strike, but the defending brigand had turned in just the right way so that that only his armor was cut. He looked at Ethan, taunting the man with an insulting finger.

Grant, upon concluding that becoming a murderer on the first day of his journey would make for bad decision on colossal scales, unsheathed his dagger. Yet as he swung, he swung not with his blade, but leading the pommel forth to strike the accomplice of Ethan’s target in the gut.

Upon seeing Ethan being struck with the lance Grant’s eyes widened. Someone who had came to help him being injured? He had never experienced such a thing before. Much less from a person he did not even know. Something new was boiling- motivation.
This motivation pushed Grant forward to lead the pommel once more. He guided it straight upwards in his attempt to deliver a rough, blunt blow onto the Brigand’s chin.

An incoming flash of bronze in the light signalled the moment for Grant to avoid the brigand. The most obvious manoeuvre would be to dodge or sidestep out of harm’s way and so he attempted. To his dismay, the man was slightly on par with his own speed- managing to catch the back of his left hand lightly with the edge of his dagger. Not quite a surprise seeing as Grant was indeed still a novice in single combat.
Even so, for what his body lacked in power he could make up for in cunning. Among the key aspects that governed success on any battlefield, awareness and tactics stood firmly planted.
Grant noticed the mercenary landing in a tight spot- giving the brigand he was currently facing an advantage should he decide to focus on him instead of Grant himself. Keeping that in mind, he immediately leapt back towards Ethan.
With a flick of his wrist he sheathed the bronze dagger to extend a staff from his back instead. It was odd for him to use such a tool in his arsenal, but the circumstance called for it. Grant was sure Ethan could handle the brigand he was currently facing himself, though he would rather the odds be so even in their favour.
Thus, with a tap of his staff against the ground- he drew upon an untrained, weak power to mend Ethan’s wounds.
Grant is giving defensive support to Ethan for this turn. Ethan's DEF and RES are both higher than Grant's.
Winded and running out of energy. Ethan held his sword in one shaky hand. He drew a deep breath and lunged towards his enemy, intent on bringing him down before the wanderer couldn't move. His strike missed as the soldier struck back at him. Ethan kicked off the ground, landing several feet back into a threepoint stance. The brigands spear missed. Suddenly the his shoulder stopped aching. The strict pain lingering about his side vanished. Breath returned, Ethan glanced over to the stranger and found him holding a magical staff. The wanderer showed his appreciation with a quick nod.
"Oi there. Drop your guard and get cut, idiot." The knife wielding brigand taunted as he jumped at him, bade first. Ethan defending, chance of 8: ra|pLnd71d100

The first slash struck the knife wielder off balance. His hands rose up as Ethan mercilessly cut him down. Blood traced down the edge of his sword as he turned towards the final man.
"Oh fuck. Jonsey!" The brigand shouted as he gripped his spear tighter. "Oh you guys are dead. Hear me? DEAD." With both people standing so close, the brigand wasn't sure who he was going to attack. The blue haired man seemed a bit more composed and it was all thanks to that guy beside him. Rule one of combat, take out the annoying healer.
The spear brigand charged recklessly charged forward. His spear, aimed at grant.

Neither his vision nor his intuition would be able to help him avoid the incoming attack. A flaw in their combined stance let through the lance with complete ease. That combined with Grant's apparent lack of speed of course.
The weapon was plunged deep into his left shoulder- sending drops of scarlet red across the pavement beneath him. His eyes widened as the influx of adrenaline and agony flooded through his system.
Yet he knew that if he were to falter at such a dire moment, the consequences would be irreparable. Hence, with one step back, he tapped upon the ground twice- allowing the magic to do the rest.
"Holy hell!" Ethan shouted as the intensity of the man's attack pushed him back. "Hey you still with me?" Ethan asked as the brigand glanced to Ethan. "OH I am. And you're next blue."
TURN FOUR
"No. You are." Ethan shouted as he rushed forward. He shoulder charged the man, then brought his sword down for his neck.

The blade made its mark, bringing the foolish man to his knees. The dying man reached up and gripped the blade. The wanderer kicked his blade free, leaving the brigand to bleed out on the streets.
The wanderer whipped his blade, sending blood across stone. He sheathed it and walked over to the stranger. "You alright man?" He held a hand out. "I'm Ethan."

Grant could not help but feel sorry as his pupils drifted to meet the sight of the man bleeding to his death. “Quite,” he muttered, exhaling hardly noticeable sigh. There was not much he could do for him at that point. Although magic might have a greater effect than most conventional medicine, Grant’s use of it simply is not powerful enough to restore a lost life.
“Grant.” His right hand met Ethan’s own in response. “I thank you for your assistance,” The end of his staff landed on the ground three more times as the shaft remained gripped in his left. The two of them were basked in a faint glow which disappeared as soon as it came. The feeling of one’s wounds being healed was a rather peculiar thing- akin to waking up fresh after a long slumber, except more concentrated towards the damaged area in particular. Upon letting go of his hand, Grant raised a palm to his chest before bowing once. “Please forgive my abruptness,” he said with a light smile. “It is the least I am able to do for your kindness.” His line of sight broke from Ethan’s momentarily to face one of the brigands. It was not often that he felt pitiful, especially for someone who was about to gut him. Nevertheless, he could not help himself. “If you would excuse me for a moment.”
It was as if his own feet had betrayed logic- guiding him towards the person. Once more, his staff tapped the ground and the man’s wounds closed.

Even if the outcome was uncertain, Grant showed no signs of depression.
Ethan gave a sigh of relief as his minor wounds receded. Again his breath was renewed and the wanderer felt much more alert than he had before. "You don't have to thank me." He said. "People like them give all of us here a bad name, but I guess you see that everywhere you go nowadays with the war. What are you doing?"
Glancing over, Ethan's dull eyes somewhat widened as Grant tried to save one of the men. He stood wordless as the man died despite Grant's magic. Why was he even wasting his time? Let the man die.
His eyes dropped at what he had just thought: Let the man die.
"God." He muttered. Gray eyes hung lowly. His face bent with depressive lines and Ethan pushed his vibrant hair aside. "Have things really changed that much?"
"You're safe now." He said. "There's an inn not far from here. I can take you there if you need me to, if not then just stay safe. Things aren't exactly at their best right and well someone's always out to hurt someone else." His words came weak and his disposition had died into something reserved for lonely nights.
