The sun was beginning to sink under the cool blue mountains of the Hoshido lands. The woman had traveled far on her own. This wasn't uncommon for her. Lydia often traveled through the woods in search of plants and animals she could use in medicines. Besides, she wasn't alone. The horse she had borrowed was beside her.
Lydia examined a bundle of leaves in her hand. Her hands were covered by dainty gloves in case the plant were to release some kind of toxin to irritate her skin. With a sniff, she named the plant and wrote down in her journal. Dong quai. It was a herb used for thousands of years in medicines, usually for women's health. Lydia put it into her bag with her journal and proceeded to gather a few more pieces of the root. She'd need to remember this place. Rui (Discontinued forevs)

It wasn't too far away that Rui sat beside a tree. The young man looked off into the distance, boredom clearly upon his face. After coming back to the guild, bloody, and with no prize to show for it, a few days back, he was forced to just watch one area instead now, for awhile. Put simply, if anyone entered the woods, he had ought to steal something of value from them, or he'd get in trouble, for his poor performance.
Regardless, Rui remained mostly disinterested in his surroundings. He listened closely to the noises of the forest, hoping, praying... Wishing for someone to come by.
And then he heard it. A faint rustling in the distance. This could easily be an animal, or something of the sort, but regardless, desperately wishing for something to entertain himself, Rui quietly made his way in the direction of the sound, until he saw a girl. 'Ugh...' He thought, after all, to him, such a being was one of the worst sorts of vermin.
Casually walking out, he glanced at her, his casual expression turned into a grin. "Wow~ Wandering in the big bad forest all on your own? That must take guts, sweetie..."
The sudden sound in the woods caused the woman to jump slightly. She instantly turned her attention away from the man who had approached and into her bag. She took a deep breath. This could go many ways but by the tone in this man's voice, Lydia felt that it wouldn't go well. "You're alone too, are you not?" Lydia replied. She didn't bother to glance up at the man. Instead she continued to shuffled through her bag. Her dagger was close. Her fingers ran over the bronze blade and a forlorn look crossed her face for that moment. She didn't want to attack somebody once again. "My friends aren't as interested in herbs as I am," she explained. Lydia pulled out her root and held it to the air, examining it in the last rays of the sun and showing the man what she had. "You'd be amazed at the good they can do a body."

"Me, alone~? Unlike you, I'm not useless enough as to need people around to protect me~" He couldn't help but grin, as he made a rude remark like that. He walked a bit closer, his expression quickly shifting to boredom.
"D'you have anything actually useful? Don't waste my time." The man grumbled, as he tried to glance into her bag, whilst keeping his distance incase she tried to attack him. He didn't like females in the first place, so his tone quickly transcended to cross. If this girl only had herbs, he'd be very annoyed, after all, he certainly doubted stealing something like that, would make him much money. Who knows though, perhaps he was wrong?
At least this male had made his intentions known. All he seemed to want was what was in her bag. He'd be disappointed. She carried only enough gold for a single night at a nearby inn. With her horse, she'd be back home by the following afternoon. Lydia opened her bag up a little bit more so he could see the herbs that were rested inside of it. The gold had been covered at this point. "Only herbs this time around. Good for medicine, not so much eating. Unless you like your greens," Lydia joked despite the heavy circumstances. She finally met the man's gaze while she rose to her feet, grabbed her staff and bag, and rested her hand on the flank of her horse for support.

Rui rolled his eyes, unsatisfied with such a thing.
"Right, right, so if there's only herbs, mind if I look through the bag a bit~?"
His voice was a clear taunt, as he showed no signs of trust, or belief. If she seriously only had herbs, he was going to be annoyed quite a bit. Taking a few steps closer, he tried to grab at her bag, his eyes staring straight at her, all the while. Something about him looked quite menacing, as though he was the sort of person who would have no issue hurting another.

The dagger, while hitting, just fell down to the ground with a clatter. As a result, Rui, let out a sigh, and quickly slipping behind her, attempted his own attack.

He rushed his Shuriken inward, yet no blood began to fall, and immediately he jumped backwards, and grinned. "You're not going to win, dear~"

The man quickly pulled out a dagger of his own. It caught Lydia by surprise. She was expecting something a little bit more... damaging, for a bandit at least.
He barely knicked her with the blade of his shuriken. "It's kind of strange," Lydia started, "for somebody to talk so big when they wield nothing but simple shuriken."
She retrieved her dagger and swiped at him once again. 32cw8sSx1-100 target 91 for 4 damage

He yawned a bit, totally not reacting to her hit, at all, except calming walking away after she had hit.
"Mmm, I'm good enough to not need some fancy weapon~"
RfYJZLY51-100 (Must be under 93)
Rui hit right in her chest, and glided past immediately after.
His weapon did... Nothing. Landing on his feet after his dash, he spun around.
"Hmm... yeah you're right this shuriken is trash."
He grumbled this, throwing it between hands, before putting it away once more. He'd have normally held out a hand, but as he'd rather be friendly towards, such a person, he kept his hands to his sides.
Lydia gave a chuckle at the man's reaction. He had attacked again yet barely touched her. His shuriken left his hands again, but not in the way she expected. He had put the weapon away. Lydia mimicked his actions and did the same. Instead she pulled out her staff and twirled it in her hands. Their fight had only been brief but it was enough to get her point across. Lydia was strong enough to handle herself in the woods. She was strong enough period. The twirl of the staff healed the minor wounds that the two of them had with ease. "Are you okay?" She asked with a genuine concern.

This girl was too nice... He just attempted to kill her, and eye roll escaped him.
"No, no, I'm dead dear, this is my ghost. It wants to take you with it~" He mocked, looking down at his clothing, and pulling at where holes were now located. He sighed a bit, it felt like he spent most his gold on buying wardrobe, than anything else. He had to get stronger.
"I'd return the question, however... I don't care if you're okay or not."
The woman simply shook her head at the man's reply. It was okay to admit he would have been beaten by a woman. She'd let him play bad. Lydia wasn't stupid. Even a weak person shouldn't be trusted. "If your ghost could take me, I'd gladly allow it to do the honors. I hear dying is an awfully grand adventure, afterall." She spoke as she walked back to the horse and soon mounted him. "You would actually be surprised what you can find in the woods. There is value in a lot of things you wouldn't expect, if you know where to sell it or what you can do with it. A mixture of simple plants can make a wonderful medicine." She pulled out two different herbs from her pack and handed them to him. "You could probably eat this one," she motioned to the one on the left, "and feel no hunger for the entire day. It's good for a full day of travel. The other is lavender. It usually helps people relax. You could probably fetch enough for a meal from it."

Rui was honestly hoping to get a reaction out of something he did, yet... This girl refused to even disagree with a lot of what he'd say. His expression grew slightly annoyed, as he sighed. "Mm... You're annoying." He muttered, as he reluctantly accepted the herbs, treating them almost as if they'd been defiled.
"Well I guess I'll just take this... Hopefully it isn't as worthless as you clearly are." His voice came out a mutter, as he turned around, and started to walk away. Internally he vowed to one day destroy everything that brought that woman joy, to eradicate everything pleasant that could meet her existence...
It was a strange encounter. Lydia watched the boy scurry off with his newfound treasure. Hopefully that would be enough to help him for the time being. It would be even better if he retained the knowledge she tried to teach him. Maybe it would one day turn the boy around. Perhaps this planted some kind of seed for the boy. With a shake of her head, Lydia climbed onto her horse and rode away. She would probably never see the boy again.
