"Haha!" Deacon made a small swing of his arm in the air, "That sounds good, my friend! Let us then take our sorry selves to this place and sample their eatings." He motioned his hand to the donkey, "But I'm afraid my comrade is picky toward unfamiliar. He's a vegetable feeder, you see! Grass would work fine, too, and Hoshido's pastures are plenty! I'll simply have him wait just a bit longer. He did in fact eat an hour ago..." He gave the donkey a leer, "He almost got into someone's flower garden. So I can't let my eye off of him."
Regardless, Deacon returned his gaze to the merchant, "I'll go on ahead and see what their pricing is, hm?" Ethan
"I can agree to that." Ethan said cheerfully. "I don't think I've seen this much grass in Nohr and when I did, it was all dead." He glanced over to the animal. "Ah you need manners!" He falsely scolded.
Ethan followed the @deacon along, passing a few stalls as they carried on. Two Nohr soldiers were browsing the wares and Ethan almost froze. He swallowed hard, keeping up with the man. His pace quickened. "I believe that it's this way. So let's uh get there before they start to close their cart or something."

"Ah, oh, yes, of course!" spoke Deacon as his own pace hastened a little, "Wouldn't want to miss the opportunity..."
If it were so, he wouldn't have ignored the presence of the two Nohrian soldiers, yet for reasons he held, he would not allow the interaction to happen. Thus, Deacon turned his head away from the two, and cranked his back forward slightly.
The two of them went a little further than the stall with the mule in tow.
"Hm, that will do, I think..." spoke the knight with a quick glance to the soldiers, who were now going down the opposite direction, "I would rather be not recognized by soldiers." He pushed his hair back with his hand, "A dishonored knight would breed more misunderstandings with a new generation of soldiers..." He had a dispirited expression on his face, "... Ah... I apologize, good man. I had welcomed your presence with joy because you are a merchant, but with the military?" The knight shook his head sadly, "... I've never had a good interaction since my shaming." Ethan
"Oh you and me both." Ethan said grimly. "I don't think I've ever had a good interaction with the Nohrian military. Ever. Let's just say merchant wasn't always my profession of choice." Ethan turned to the disgraced knight and spoke with force. Each syllable came strong, so his double meaning wouldn't be lost. "I. Used. To. Ice. Fish. A lot." He kept firm eyes contact for a second before nodding. "I say we skip on the meal and head out. It would be better for both of us."
Ethan backed away, turning his back to the knight in the hopes that he would be followed and not stabbed in the back. His pace quickened and as he passed a stall, Ethan dropped a few gold coins and took a hiboshi. He placed the straw hat on his head and continued on.

"Ah, so you understand!" the knight said with a revived mood, "Truly our meeting was fate, my good fellow. We are kindred spirits in our troubles..."
In a brief moment, the fellow spoke rather cryptically.
I used to ice fish a lot.
Ice fish? Did he put fish on ice? Or did he fish for fish on... ice?
Oh!
Ohhhhhhhh...?
OH.
"By jove!" Deacon exclaimed in a whispered tone, "I see!" He was no merchant! He was Ethan Leigh, the runaway Ice Tribe soldier!
Well, that's cleared up. He thought he recognized that mug of his! Ah, but this was no time to gawk, and neither was this time to think hard.
The knight hurried to the fellow's side and gave him a beaming smile, "I understand! Do not fret, comrade! I won't say a word!" He also passed by the same stall and quickly purchased a piece of cloth, as well as a large kasa for himself to put on his own head.
They went a little farther until they were the edge of town. The mule kept up well, but as soon as Deacon stopped, it dropped its head to a patch of grass and started eating.
"There..." he spoke pleasantly with his hands on his hips, "Hoho, I must say, I was deceived well. That tends to happen a lot!"
Standing a safe distance from the town, Ethan tipped his hat and glanced down wide streets. It seemed the guards hadn't noticed either of them. The wander smiled to his unlikely companion. "They don't exactly train them well. Good job." He slid a hand along the straw hat. "I'm gonna keep this. I think Mai might like this."
Ethan stepped a bit away. His intention for the main road leading away from the town was clear. "I think we need to go ahead and reschedule that meal. It's probably best if I head out and get back to my group. I don't think you and your trust companion would want to stick around here either. It was nice to meet you and if we did meet again, I wouldn't be displeased."
Ethan turned away, wondering if he used that strange phrase properly.

"Hmhm!" Deacon nodded to Ethan with a fiery zeal, "Indeed, good man, indeed..." He, too, tipped his hat down, "Very well, today we part, nevertheless I pray for the day we meet again." His hand reached to the mule and patted his back, "I shall head south from here. I have a, ah, delivery to make." A toothy smile appeared on his face, "Inari, zettai! Umai! Miso, oishi!"
He let out a cough, "... Right, then! Just practicing a bit there. Take care, my brother! I shall see you again!" With that, he mounted the donkey and clicked his tongue, signaling the donkey to start his ambling.
Ethan stopped partway down the road and looked behind him. A single eyebrow had risen. "Um, bless you?" He said awkwardly before continuing on his route. It seemed not everyone from Nohr was going to be deplorable.
