An Accord West and Ethan On the edge of a forest Afternoon
That fool. That silly fool! Could she have made a worse impression of the venerable knowledge seekers? Even his meatheaded, right hand mercenary could give a more welcoming introduction! Ah, but perhaps it was his fault to have allowed her, even if she were the last person in the headquarters who was available. He should've just gone himself...
An emergency ride to meet the wanderer halfway was quickly initiated. They would meet, whether he liked it or not.
So, the caravan rode swiftly to Hoshido. It was luck that Hoshidans are welcoming of elves, especially merchants who carried valuable goods for trade. A bribe or two would make passage easy.
According to the sources, the fellow, Ethan Leigh, was an escapee of the Ice Tribe. They claim him a traitor of the Nohrian government, and as such sent some... less subtle people to put an end to him. With the help of two people he had befriended, he was able to kill one of the soldiers before the others fled back to their country.
"Hehe, how interesting..."
It was a more delicate situation that he had thought. Because of that fool's carelessness, he must be on high alert, as well as very unfriendly toward the organization. What a pain, what a pain...
This wouldn't be a recruitment attempt: this would be an apology for bad behavior, and hopefully some reconciliation.
"Here is good," spoke the elf as the caravan rode onto a patch of gravel on the side of the road. The mercenary who accompanied him nodded her head, then installed the breaks on the wheels. They donned Hoshidan garb, as well as decorations on the vehicle itself to help them blend in a little with the cultural environment. The elf wore the mantle of a regular street merchant, while his mercenary simply wore a yukata.
Goodness, this heat! He had gotten used to the cold of Nohr, so this was excruciating. He wondered how that Ice Tribe mercenary even managed himself in this humid environment…
"I'm going to walk a little and see if I can spot him," spoke the elf as he fanned himself with a feather fan, "You stay here and guard the caravan!"
"Whaaaat."
So, the elf proceeded into the woods. To his misfortune, he neglected to bring a water gourd with him, and had already walked for a couple hours before realizing the fact.
"... Oh, just great..." he groaned, "I hope that fellow happens along soon. I should shed some of these layers... eh... can't break disguise..."
Before he knew it, he was lying face down in the dirt in the sun.
The capital couldn't have been too far away. That protective wall stood like a defensive eyesore in the distance. The further they walked, the larger it grew. He couldn't think any less of them for it though. Windmire was built within a council of walls. It seems no matter where he went, there were weak reminders of Nohr. How that place popped up in fleeting details was annoying. Ethan sighed. He needed to clear his mind and he needed to be alone. That's why he had volunteered to go hunting while his companions found firewood.
The solitude of a forest let him time to contemplate and reflect on the heavy choices he had made. Were they regrets? There was a flint of it. He missed his home. He missed the frozen lakes, cold weather, and the friends he had. Campbell was an ass. Always was. However, people like Flora were okay. He had been interested in her at one point, but she was consistently leaving to help someone in a tower. It wasn't important.
Ethan walked with his hands behind his head until he spotted the man lying face down. "The hell?" He said as he rushed to the man's side. Ethan rolled him over and dragged his body into the shade. "Hey buddy. You still alive?" he asked.

Thank the heavens above... a stranger came across him and brought him under the shade of a tree. The elf opened his eyes to a blurry world.
"Ah..." he murmured, he turned his head to a closer figure that was severely out of focus and squinted hard, "... Alive... yes... maybe--cough--half-alive without water..." The elf began to feel his nose bridge, "... Oh... where'd those go?"
His glasses were missing from his face, sitting in the same place he had fallen.
"Have you seen my glasses, perchance?" he asked, "I am most vulnerable without them. I would barely make out a wild boar if it is charging at even five feet ahead of me." Ethan
Ethan reached for his waterskin and offered it to the man. "Take this. I'll see if I can find them."
Ethan stepped carefully and searched for the spectacles. "What are you doing out here?" Ethan asked as he kicked a rock away. "A bit too finely dressed to be wandering around." He found the glasses near the roots of some tree. He picked them up to find their right glass cracked. Ethan gingerly cleaned them and returned them to the fallen Elf. "Here you go."

"Oh... thank you kindly..." spoke the elf as he took the water skin. He shakily held it to his mouth and sipped from it.
Ahhh... just the moisture running down his throat was ever so refreshing. After he had two sips, the elf cleared his throat and allowed the skin to sit on his lap.
The fellow's question was a fair one given his chosen attire, "I am an itinerant merchant, actually! My caravan got ambushed by some bandits and I had to make a run for it on my own. Got separated from my group."
He held out the water skin in exchange for his glasses. "... Oh... that's no good, the right side is cracked..." Regardless, he put the glasses on and gave the wanderer a good look.
Blue hair, pale skin, and a scar on his right cheek...? Why, what luck! This was Ethan Leigh, himself!
"Well, this works!" the elf got onto his feet, "Thank you very much, sir! Allow me to properly introduce myself... I am Weston Aldanier, owner of Wests's Curiosities." He gave the man a bow, "As you can tell, I am not Hoshidan, but an admirer of its citizens and culture."
"Where was the attack?" Ethan asked. Gray eyes scanned the surrounding woods as he looked for any brigands that might have followed. "Are you the only survivor?" He looked back to the person before him. "And how many of them were there?"
Then the man stood up and bowed. Things didn't seem right. He was cordial. Calm. His words were too conversation like. Ethan listened to his words and gave a deep sigh before saying "You know. This reminds of something. The last time I saved someone in 'danger', they had a message for me." Ethan stood up, not taking the watreskin back and being sure to keep a safe distance from the man. "For a man who is separated from his friends and unconscious in the woods, you're quite calm."
Ethan ran a hand through his hair. "So tell me @weston. You have any strange nicknames you go by? Maybe a rigid personality you're hiding? Tell me. Should I prepare for you to hang all over me? Do you even need glasses?"

Ah, this was bad. Ethan caught on too quickly. This wasn't time to be fooling around with made-up fables...
"Whoa, whoa, easy there, mister," spoke West with a little tilt of his glasses, "You can quite literally go through my clothes and find that I'm sweating through all the layers! In fact, I really can't take this heat..." he pulled off a coat on top and a few other articles of his clothing until he was down to a yukata, "... aaahhh... there we go. Now... my name IS Weston, but my friends call me West. I really am a merchant, and I really do need the glasses... and for heaven's sake, I don't plan to do anything stupid. I'm just here to talk... and hopefully apologize!" He held his arms out toward his sides and knelt down on the ground, "I really do hope we can be cordial. I want to make amends for a certain someone's bad behavior!"
"Right. Cordial. Cause showing up and lying to my face is going to make me want to be nice to you." Ethan scoffed. "Your little group of information brokers doesn't exactly seem trustful But you got a far reach, I'll give you that. My last encounter with your ever so kind vixen left me with a lot to think about and you know what? Whatever it is you have to say, I'm not interested. Crawl back to your burning wagon and dead friends. You people are twisted liars and I don't need that. I have enough of my own problems and don't need whatever one's you people bring. So West, SAYonara."

Rude fellow, this. These people were the worst to negotiate with.
"Well, call it an extra measure of security," spoke the elf with a shake of his head, "I am not here to recruit you or ask anything. After hearing what she had done and said to you, I couldn't just leave it at that. I came all the way from Windmire to see you... and for what it's worth, I am here simply to apologize." He got down on his knees and bowed his head to the ground, "... This bow, the dogeza, is the highest form of respect in Hoshido. The things she said were inexcusable, and she has been punished for her incompetence. On behalf of Black Market, I ask for your forgiveness." Ethan
"An extra measure of security?" Ethan questioned. "Not when you're not very good at it, you're going to get yourself killed." The wanderer kept a distance and a hand near his sword. He wasn't going to make the mistake of getting too close to West. He listened to the man speak, watching him bow.
His features deadened. "Apologize? Right. Well Whatever, sure forgiven. Listen guy. You want to apologize to me? Tell me who gave you the information to find me. Tell me how widespread this information is." He sighed. "A bow doesn't matter to me, but you help me with information, I'd consider everything fine."

"Of course!" West suddenly raised his head with a wide grin on his face, "Information is power, as they say!" He got back on his feet and brushed down his knees, "Alright... so information on our sources, eh? Well... how about this? Our network spans from Nohr and Hoshido in a vast spiderweb of sorts. Those who work under me collect information independently and relay this information in the form of..." the elf stopped himself, "Ah, that part is classified, but I will tell you that the information we have on you is straight out of the mouth of one of our spies in the Nohrian regiment." He tapped his chin, "After learning that you were acting on your own, I figured that you and I could work together to help you out, maybe."
The elf opened one of his eyes, "... By the way, that Campbell fellow is making his way out of Windmire with a small army by commission of King Garon. While it is under the guise to harass the Hoshidans, I have no doubt that he would come after you full force... but he can't touch you if you keep up your pace to Shirasagi. Of course, that was your plan all along, right?" He raised his hands in the air, "Now, that last bit was me speculating. Is there anything else you would like to know, Ethan?"
"An army?" Ethan questioned. "Garon would send a small force after me?" He stopped for a moment. This was different. Funny how often he thought that. Seems like things were just going to get worse. He started pacing and ran a hand through his hair. "I knew they wanted to make an example out of deserters, I can't be the only one. There's no way. Are there others? There has to be. Are they sending troops after the other?"
Ethan had stopped pacing, completely distracted by the idea of others. "Do you know the number of forces they sent after me? You have people everywhere. You would know if a similar sized force was being sent after another person. Or group of people. Because there is no way in hell I'm the only one... But you're not here to just give me something." Ethan sighed. "What do you want from me West?"

"Well," West spoke, "It's natural for the poor and unfortunate to head to greener pastures. If a government is not working, then it should be so that those subject to it attempt escape or resistance." The elf sat down on the ground and picked a piece of wheatgrass beside him and put it in his mouth, "Of course, you've done that part already by coming here. There is only so much a government can do to stop its serfs from leaving." He turned his head to the mercenary with a solemn expression on his face, "They're coming to take you and every other deserter alive so that they could brutally execute you in your respective homelands in Nohr. It'll teach a valuable lesson to those who intend to become turncoats, don't you think?"
He began to chew on the wheatgrass, "... And, ah, what I want from you... well, I've just extended my invitation, right? Black Market may be shadier than a tree under the clouds, but by the goddesses... all we want peace!" The elf swung both his arms toward his sides, "That is my greatest dream, the thing I hope for! It's such a bothersome thing to have two countries warring against each other while you're trying to make it out here in this cruel, unforgiving world!"
West leaned forward and put his elbow on his leg with his hand on his face, "... Ah, yes, what I want from you, Ethan, is to let our minds be of one accord. Every man who exists had once yearned to return to his birth place... and so do I."
"Don't talk in circles." Ethan said. "There are others. Now we can get a hell of a lot further if you go ahead and tell me what's going on." Ethan sighed.
These people were a test of patience. He sighed and the way he talked slowed down. His tone shifted and he spoke somewhat calmer. "Alright listen. I know you're used to being cryptic. I know you're used to talking secrets, but look around you man. We're the only ones here. Now I don't know what I can do to help you, but if you don't start telling me how I'm not going to listen to you. Because all this secretive stuff is wasting my time. Now I could be on the road to Shiruhsagi. The way you make it sound, I don't have much time."
"So please. Cut the crap. Where are the other deserters? There's strength in numbers and I know you know that. Tell me where they are and I'll see if I can get their help. And what do you need from me in return." Before West could talk, Ethan held a hand up. "If your words are evasive. If you're not willing to give what I need to help us both, I'm going to walk away. Choose your next words carefully."

"Oh, can't help myself, can't I..." West shook his head, "Well, let me just take out my convenient map of the region." He reached into his yukata and pulled it out, "... Aha, yes. There are some who made haste to Fort Jinya, just like you have, but after your, ahem, physical altercation with Campbell, some had realized that it wouldn't be wise to stay, so they branched out to different villages so far as their feet could take them." He pointed at Fort Jinya and the spread his fingers out westward, "According to my sources, most of them are not unified and have cut their own courses through Hoshido." He brushed his chin, "... I believe a majority have headed south to Izumo, rather than to Shirasagi, since that city tends to have a more... neutral atmosphere."
His brow suddenly furrowed, "... Hmm... yes, not a bad place to go, actually... but the influx of Nohrian refugees might bring trouble that way." The elf looked up at Ethan , "Ah, but granted, Izumo is next door to the, ah, hidden ninja village of Mokushu. If there is an attack, they would certainly come running." He snapped his fingers and crossed his arms, "How about that, hm? I have lack of informants in Izumo, so perhaps if you go running that way, you can do some information gathering for me. I'll give you all the details, should you agree to my proposal."
