Kashmere positively preened. "Thank you~! It's good to meet someone who enjoys what we do. I used to be part of a traveling troupe, and there weren't many people who really appreciated our hard work," he lamented, tail and ears drooping for effect. "My time so far in Cyrkensia has been much kinder, but it's still nice to hear!"
At her warning, he sobered a little. Although his first instinct was to protest her concern, tell her that he had been traveling around Nohr, the neutral territories, and even Hoshido with little trouble from poachers, he had done so with the protection of pack of angry Outlaws who wanted to protect their meal ticket. He was very... alone out here, and it was right of her to remind him. He smiled, a softer expression than the cheeky one he had been using thus far, and nodded. "I'll have to keep that in mind," he said, and then abruptly winked, his showman persona coming back full-force. "And forget tall, your lovely outfits are going to make me stand out like a beacon. Right, right?"
He scooted closer then, trying to peak over what Lisette was doing from the side without inhibiting her movement. "What are you doing to them, anyway? Looks complicated, Like, I can mend holes okay, but this is like another league. And so quickly!"
Haha, of course they will~!" Lisette exclaimed, energetically, before glancing over, as he posed certain questions regarding what she was doing. She glanced back down at her workmanship, before starting to explain.
"So basically, with this top here, I figured it'd have a bit more visual interest if I turned it into something that you can have buttoned closed. So I cut about where it was suppose to separate, and now I'm sewing the edges so they don't rip and tear super easily!" Lisette explained, hoping she would confuse the wolfskin as she spoke. She could get a bit overly in depth regarding clothing. What could she say, she was obsessed.
"Good thing you stopped by here by the way, most shops are super busy, so they refuse to customize anything!" Lisette said this with a nod, as as she started to add in a button, she glanced around. "This one will work well with an under shirt, so I can whip something like that up..." She then picked up and held for him to see. "This look any good?"
Kashmere listened to her explain what she was doing in her alterations. It would probably be interesting, if he knew anything about sewing besides "jab the pointy end into the cloth a couple dozen times and hope the stitches stay". As it was, his eyes glazed over a little, but he let her talk. He could always respect passion in your work, after all.
He blinked back to awareness when he realized she had addressed him directly. It took him a second to rewind the conversation and realize what she was talking about. "Oh! Yeah, I spent all morning looking for a shop, but they were all so crowded. I'm glad I found this one, even if it took me a while."
Kash studied the shirt she held aloft with a discerning eye. After a moment, he smiled and nodded. "Looks great! Ah, it looks way better made than the stuff I'm used to, but just as fancy! I can't wait to see the rest of them!" he said.
A thought occurred to him. "You said something about accessories earlier, right? Do you have any of those neck ruffly-things?" he asked, gesturing at his throat.
She smiled brightly and swiped the shirt back to the pile of clothing she was editing. "I'm really glad you like how its coming along!" She exclaimed cheerfully, with a nod of the head. She somewhat hoped this person would become a regular customer, it wasn't common for her to have a customer who actually seemed to be friendly. Besides that, she couldn't deny that she was having fun talking to him.
"Oh... Neck ruffly things?" She hurriedly exited the seat, accidentally bumping into him as she did so, but recovering near instantaneously. She quickly reached a different spot of the shop, and pulled out a few things. "Sooo, do you mean a jabot, or a ruff?" She asked, as she lifted two different items up, as she said each name.
Kashmere reached up--whether to steady Lisette after bumping into him or to keep himself from overbalancing and tripping, he wasn't sure--but she was already off again digging through more incomprehensible bolts of cloth. When she popped back up with new new items in hand, his eyes went wide as saucers. "I've never seen one of those before," he said, pointed a clawed finger at the ruff. He bit his lip, eyes darting between the ruffly jabot and the strange new ruff, before asking, "Can I have one of each?"
He had never expected to get so excited over clothes, but this was fun. Once he had saved up some more, he'd have to do this again.
Lisette's eyes lit up, she succeeded in showing something new to catch her customer's eye. "You want one of each? Perfect, perfect, you'll easily be able to afford that with your budget!" She chirped out as she went to her counter, and pulled out a bag, and quickly yet carefully placed the items in there. Before lifting the bag to the top of the counter.
As she went back to the work area, she started making nice spots for a tail, inside the pants selected prior, "By the way, what's your name? Maybe if I hear about it, I could stop by one of your performances?" She suggested casually, "Haha provided that's not rude to ask, lemme just..." She glanced back at her workmanship, as she fixed them all up relatively quickly.
Once Lisette put the bag on the counter, Kashmere sidled over and began to poke through it. His fingers ghosted across the fabric and his nails caught in the lace, but not hard enough to tear. He grinned a little to himself and shoved them back in the bag for safekeeping.
He spun around to face her and dropped into an exaggerated bow, nearly braining himself against the side of the counter. Only well-honed reflexes allowed him to jerk out of the way in time. A bit more carefully, he rose back to standing, but he didn't quite look Lisette in the eyes when he spoke. "Kashmere, at your service. I would be delighted if you came to see me sometime. I move around, but you can usually find me around the docks," he said.
He cleared his throat a little and tried to shake of the embarrassment. "So, um, is that one almost finished?" he asked.
She glanced over at him, as he started to do his overly energetic introduction, as she chuckled lightly. How entertaining, what a silly wolf he was. As he made a rapid change of subject, she looked back, her hands had been moving even when she looked away.
Looking down on it, she did a few finishing stitches and then held it out. "Yes indeed!" She exclaimed, as she draped it between her fingers and held it out. "If you'd like to help, you could put it in the bag?" A few moments after she said this, a thought came over her...
Should she have introduced herself, she turned her head away, as she seemed concerned regarding this. Was it rude if a customer introduced themselves, and she didn't say her name in response? Her mind went on upon this tangent, and she seemed to tense up, before turning back and smiling politely.
Her poor customer, having to deal with her being annoying and such. "Th-Though of course, I can totally put it in the bag for you, after all that's my job, right?"
Kashmere waved both hands. "No, no, I'll do it!" he said, then took the garment from her hands with more care than he typically handled most object with. Seemingly entranced, he turned it so the light caught the stitches, and ran his thumbs over the soft material. Not quite as soft as Wolfskin fur, but close. They would certainly be comfortable. He just hoped they were durable, too. It would be a shame to wreck them after only a few uses.
He awkwardly folded the fabric before putting it in the bag as requested. "Hmm. How long have you been a tailor, Miss..." He trailed off, then blinked. "Uh, what was your name again? Did you say? I don't remember."
As he mentioned such a thing, with was as if an arrow, of idiocy hit her right in the head. yep, she totally had been rude, completely and utterly so... She could lie and pretend he just forgot, but Lisette wasn't that kind of person.
"Sorry, sorry!" She exclaimed slightly louder than intended, "Ah, that was rude of me, I completely forgot to mention it... My name's Lisette, and erm I've been a tailor for um... Oh, oh yeah! Nearly two years! Since I got the job about... Hmm... Yeah..." She seemed to go into mumbling as she tried to remember it exactly. It was probably around a month since she began.
"I trained under a pro though, and ever since I've worked day and night to do the best I can to help out here!" She exclaimed with a vigorous nod of the head, as she continued her work with the remaining pieces of clothing. She had to admit, she was a bit fanatic about her job, since really it was the only thing in her life that she had to enjoy. Absorbing herself in it, helped her with handling reality.
"What about you, Kashmere, how long have you been a performer?"
Kashmere snickered. "Eh, no worries. People always get so cranky when I forget their names. Nice knowing it wasn't my fault this time," he said. Nonetheless, he snickered a little at her obvious distress. It was just a little mistake, wasn't it? No big deal.
He began to pace the racks as he listened to her talk about her history as a tailor. Not quite two years, huh? He felt a small pang of envy at her skills in such a short period, but then, she probably trained for longer, right? Non-feral-mountain-children tended to do apprenticeships and go to school, right? He chewed the inside of his lip and pushed the thought away. It wasn't like she was a performer he had to compete with, after all.
He popped back around the end of a rack and meandered back toward the counter. Most of the clothes that were hung up looked like the average dreary affairs he saw all over Cyrsenkia--nothing to hold his attention for long. "Hmm, I got started with the Troupe when I was..." He frowned a cocked his head, trying to do that math. "Fourteen? I think? So, a little over a decade, I guess. Ah, wow, it's been a long time."
"So whatcha doin' now?" he asked. The thought that his constant pestering might actually be distracting never crossed his mind.
Lisette was visibly a bit relieved that he didn't seem too bothered by her mistake. She couldn't help but worry though, that maybe he was on the other hand bothered by her panic, no matter what, she never could really assume she wasn't being an annoyance.
Fortunately, as she listened to him speak, it calmed her down a bit. Talking really helped her stop overthinking a bit, most of her customers just stared at her working, if they wanted customs. "Wow, that's such a long time!" She exclaimed with a nod. "You must be really good at it! I really hope I can find the time to see you perform, sometime!" She stated this, however, the taguel's only real thing that ever took up her time, was work.
As she looked down upon her work, it took her a moment to think what she was doing again, almost as if she had been doing it without really thinking. "Oh... I cut off the sleeves of this shirt, so I was trying to hem the edges!" She stated cheerfully, "I'm actually almost done with just about all these clothing pieces!"
Kashmere preened at the praise. "I've worked really hard. I promise it'll be work you while," he said. He would have to keep his eye out for any pink heads in the crowd from now on. Not that he ever half-assed a performance, but he wouldn't one to disappoint after talking himself up.
At the prospect of his outfits being nearly finished, he almost threw himself across the counter to see closer. It was only through serious self control that he kept himself still, though there may have been some shallow claw marks in the wood the next time someone checked. "Really? How much longer? I can't wait to try them on!" he said, nearly vibrating under the strength of his enthusiasm.
"Haha, I can't wait to see!" She stated cheerfully, and as Lisette put the final touches on one of the shirts, she put it aside into a neat pile. She genuinely hoped he'd like how the clothing turned out.
"Hmm... I think they're done!" She smiled, as she picked up a pile of all the stuff, and held it out. "The dressing room is right over there, and you can pretty much mix and match these, if you'd like!" She gestured to a corner with curtains surrounding it, one slightly opened. A mirror rested inside the small make shift room.
"Oh you can also bring the bag too, and then you can put stuff in there too, or something!"
Gleefully, Kashmere snatched up the stack of clothing in one hand and the bag in the other. He then practically danced over to the small dressing room. "Thank you!" he called over his shoulder and promptly snapped the curtain shut behind him.
After several minutes, he leapt back out again and struck a pose. His grin was positively giddy. "They look great! Thank you so much!" he said before turning to study himself in the mirror some more. Once he had finished preening in that outfit, he darted back into the dressing room only to come out with a different combination moments later.
"Ahhh, I'll definitely have to come back again some time," he said more to himself than Lisette as he twisted and turned. "I think I'm going to wear this one out," he said, then turned to Lisette. "You did a really good job. Thanks a lot!"
