Lisette quickly sewed through the new product she was making, a beautiful and ornate gown, with of course, a healthy portion of frills. She let out a little yawn, as she kept it up, this was pretty hard work for the little rabbit girl, she had been sewing for several hours already. Regardless, she wouldn't let it get the best of her, nodding her head in dedication, she pulled up the dress, and waved it out so air filled it.
She smiled at her workmanship, as she draped it over her arm, and walked over to hang it upon one of her clothing racks, with the other pretty clothing. She loved getting a chance to make new works, and so as she went on, she smiled at the filled clothing racks.
"I hope my boss will be happy when she next checks up on the shop..." She mumbled to herself, as she went to lean against her counter.
If there was one thing Kashmere hadn't anticipated when he split from the troupe, it was how hard it would be on his wardrobe. He had been forced to travel light when he had left, and then he'd lost more to stains and tears and one very persistent bear on the road, and long story short he was down to only one nice waistcoat and two pairs of pants. He didn't have any shirts left but, well, he actually kind of liked showing off his shoulders. It felt a little scandalous, and he had some very nice arms if he did say so himself.
But still, he was facing a critical deficiency in the clothes department, whith meant a trip to the tailor was in order. Luckily, after cleaning out the troupe's coffers before he left, he was doing much better for funds than he was for clothes. With a spring in his step, he wandered the streets of Cyrkensia. He had passed up a few shops for being too crowded, and a few for being too drab, and he was just starting to think he might need to consider lowering his standards when he found another small shop slightly off the beaten path. Hopeful, he peered inside.
Ruffles. That dress had so. Many. Ruffles. Not nearly enough gold trim, of course, but he could work with this. He could feel his tail start wagging, and had to force it to be still. He opened the door the rest of the way and stepped in. The only person he could see was a blindingly pink Taguel leaning against the counter, and he waved at her.
"Hello, there!" he said as he stepped closer, "Would you happen to be the proprietress here?"
As the man entered the little shop, the girl peered over quickly, before heading over towards the man who entered quickly, nearly tripping over the ground as she did so. But stopping in front of the tall wolfskin, she smiled up at him. "Well, I'm not sure if I'm a proprie...Tes? But I am in charge of pretty much everything here~!" She exclaimed this energetically, a big smile upon her face, to hide the nervousness of her little fumble with words.
The customer seemed friendly enough, most would be downright rude to her. She glanced around a bit, as she started to speak. "Anything you need help with, sir? I could help you find some clothes, or fix something up, or even sew you something brand new~!" She stated happily, with a nod of her head.
Kash grinned wide enough to show all of his very sharp teeth. "Well, as long as you can help me, who cares?" he said and reached out to pat her fluffy hair. Ah, the humans always got so cross with him when he touched them without asking, but this little taguel was so cute! He couldn't help himself. But he still snatched his hand back before she could take a swing at it like the humans usually did.
Without waiting for her to respond, he continued. "I need an entirely new wardrobe. Thanks to no small number of tragedies, all I have left is the clothes on my back," he said. He sighed for effect, wilting under the force of the exhalation, then promptly snapped back up again. "Also this sack full of gold, so, y'know, spare no expense." He beamed down at her and his tail began to wag.
Lisette lost a bit of her false composure as he suddenly patted her head like that, and glanced downward awkwardly. The girl didn't have a fighting bone in her, but even if she did, it was unlikely she'd have tried attacking the man.
"O-Of course! I'll do all that I can!" She exclaimed, her voice a bit higher than before, as she was a bit awkward in general. Glancing around the shop, she then glanced back up at him, trying once again to seem composed a person.
"Anyway, what kind of clothing are you interested in? Do you want customs, or things already present, what'll it be sir?" She began walking away as she spoke, already at the racks by the time she finished. Glancing back she gave a cheery little smile.
Kashmere trailed after her, thoughtfully looking at the clothing hung up on the racks the Taguel was looking through. "Hmm, I don't know. I've never had to buy my own clothes before," he said. Usually he had just raided the costume trunk and the rest of the group let him keep whatever he fancied, and before that he had relied on his parents for clothing. This was a very new experience for him.
"But I want something brightly colored. Like, fuchsia! Or turquoise! With lots of gold thread. And ruffles! And no sleeves, but maybe some gloves?" he said, getting gradually more excited as he thought about his hypothetical future wardrobe. "Do you have anything like that?"
His loud declarations of what he wanted, certainly perked the girl up, it was great when somebody was excited about the clothes they'd come to wear. She gave a quick glance around.
"I probably have some items I can repurpose for that, but I feel like a lot of things would have to be made from scratch..." She scanned her hand through the items, grabbing out a number of things that fit some of the descriptions. "Any clue on how many outfits you'll want?"
She only grabbed about three pieces, by the end of it all, most of her customers would seldom buy outfits like that. Sleeveless especially was a no go, and not many could pull off Fuchsia. But no matter what, she was determined to deliver the best quality clothes that she could.
Kashmere grinned and clapped his hands together. "That's fine, that's fine~" he said. He cheerfully trailed after her as she selected various garments from the rack, looming over her smaller form to get a look at what she was grabbing. "Oh, I dunno, three? Four? Or maybe I should get six, so I have a full weeks worth. What do you think?"
He barely gave her a chance to respond before he went stiff, then cocked his head to one side so one ear stood straight up while the other flopped over. "Wait, how much do new outfits cost?"
This new thought in mind, he stepped back and dug out his pilfered gold. He then measured out about two thirds of it which he proceeded to dump on the counter as his impromptu clothes budget. "Ah, there. I want as many outfits as that will buy," he said, pointing. Despite his ignorance, he had put up about enough to cover the three to four outfits he had initially requested.
Lisette seemed a bit nervous as he was pretty much right behind her, as he went on in speech. As soon as she heard the clatter of gold however, she turned and walked over and peered at it curiously, thinking a bit. "For that... I can get ya about three full outfits, with accessories and everything, and an extra piece of clothing of your choice~!" Lisette exclaimed cheerily, giving a smile up at him.
She spread out the clothes towards him, that she found. "I'll of course make some modifications, but do these look like anything good could sprout out from them?" There was a bright blue frilled military style shirt, the inside of the color, appeared to be purple, and a bright purple shirt that seemed pretty plain, aside from a really long color, that could most likely could a bit past the customer's chin.
Finally she had a cute teal vest, that had some blue stripe on a pocket, and the bottom seemed to spike out in a way. The shirt was the most important thing, and if any of these worked for him, she'd build the rest of the outfit around it, and make what mods she could.
Three outfits, plus what was left of his old ones. He could work with that! Pleased, he wandered over to check her selections.
He studied each piece carefully. "I like the style of this one," he said, gesturing to the military shirt. "It looks fancy, and I like the it's different colors." Moving onto the next one, he was slightly less impressed and said so. "This one's kinda boring. Not flashy enough. The color's nice, though, so I guess it will work."
And lack of enthusiasm evaporated when he set eyes on the last piece, though. His eyes lit up and his tail began to wag in earnest. "Oh! I like this color! And the pattern on the pockets is neat!" He grinned over at Lisette. "You have a good eye! I'd definitely wear these."
Lisette bopped her head affirmatively. "Okay then, got it~!" She exclaimed, as she scooped them all back into her arms, and plopped them over in her sewing station, which was honestly just in the back of the small shop room. There wasn't honestly more than one room to her little store, unless you counted the little dressing rooms.
Heading back on over, with the energy expected of her, she looked up at him. "Sooo, you like bright colors, gold, and frills? That was what you said before right?" She asked trying to confirm, as she spun around and started fishing through a supply cabinet, for anything interesting. Of course she pulled out some extra fabric, and some things that could be attached to such items.
"Also what pants style do you like? D'you like longer pants, or shorter pants, and do you like any poof to that?" Her head turned over as she asked.
Kashmere nodded as she listed off his likes. "Mhm. The flashier, the better!" he said. Ha! The humans of the troupe used to call his clothes an eyesore. This lady clearly had taste.
The subject of pants had him stuck. The troupe had cut costs by always wearing their own pants with the costumes, so he had mostly just worn plain dark brown or black trousers like the rest of them. There had never been any other options. He looked over at some of the pants on the rack, but nothing stylistically jumped out at him--just the same things he'd already mentioned in regards to the shirts and vests. "I dunno," he confessed. "Probably not short. My legs aren't my finest feature, y'know. But aside from that..." He shrugged.
As the words left his mouth, he recalled endless hours of haphazardly mending hand-be-down pants to accommodate his tail, and quickly added, "Also, there needs to be space for my tail!" He turned back to look at her to convey the urgency of the statement, only to remember he was talking to a Taguel. He grinned a little sheepishly. "Ah, but I guess you'd probably know all about that, huh?"
Lisette chuckled a bit, as she pulled herself away, and then plopped the items onto her work desk. Giving him a polite glance, she began to speak, "Haha of course, of course! Well I'll get to work adjusting these, there's a lot of pants, maybe pick out ones in colors you'd like, and then I can make some minor adjustments to fix those up for you!" She suggested casually, as she started work to remove the sleeves off of all the shirts she had shown earlier.
She seemed to make relatively quick work out of this, the sleeves of the two that had sleeves, quickly got discarded to the side. The shirt Kashmere was least happy with, she quickly began to make a bit of golden fabric on the edge, which seemed to make it look much more visually interesting. Glancing at it, she figured she'd have to make some edits so it could be more open, in order to potentially fit the customer's interests.
Based upon her speed, she seemed to be relatively good at her job. "Neat to see someone who likes to have more unique style, haha my customers usually just want to meet all the big trends, or fit in at the parties they go to!" The girl chirped cheerily, it got boring making things that would meet the most common public demand.
Kashmere wandered off and began picking through the racks of clothes. Although he was drawn to some of the poofy-looking pants, he wound up passing them up for the narrower varieties. They looked like they would bunch awkwardly around his legs, and it would be really embarrassing if he got his claws caught in all the extra fabric. Instead, he picked out a trio of pants in a nice deep blue, emerald green, and burgundy. They were relatively plain, he thought, aside from some different embroidery, but they would have to do.
He was just bringing his selections over to Lisette when she spoke to him. "There are a lot of performers in Cyrkensia," he said, sagely, and dropped the pile of pants next to her work station. "It never hurts to stand out!"
That he already stood out just by virtue of being a wolfskin, and would probably choose these clothes even if he was confined to a locked room with no windows, went unsaid.
"Oh so you're a performer?" Lisette said suddenly seeming a bit more interested, as she glanced at him. "That's so cool! The performers are definitely one of the perks of the big city~!" She exclaimed cheerfully with a nod, as she finished putting some touches onto the shirt she was working on, and then grabbing her scissors, she started to cut through the center, so it could be seen a bit more as a jacket, that look would probably be a bit better if it was so boring. She started to hem at the edges.
"Oh but also, um make sure you're careful around here, okay! There's poachers, so that could be really scary if you're in a crowded area!" She stated this quite seriously, her expression a bit less cheery than it was at all beforehand. "You're taller than me, so you'd probably stick out easier, in a crowd, I think..." She said this, and scratched at her neck slightly.
