[attr="class","mary5"]“How did this happen…?”
Those were Brunhilde’s thoughts right at this moment. She was cornered, sweating, and outnumbered. Her bodyguards were both on the floor, lifeless. Some had slits across their throats, others had arrows firmly lodged into a vital area, be it the head or the throat. They hadn’t even had the opportunity to draw their blades before their lives were taken from them. Shame filled her being at the fact that they died because of her, but she clamped down on it. She couldn’t get distracted now.
Brunhilde was on a trip – an unusual thing for her, considering she mostly remained within her family’s estate, issuing orders and attempting to find some manner of circumventing Garon’s watchful gaze. She knew that anything that aroused suspicion would be met with a swift death and considering she couldn’t die until she saw Nohr in a better state than it was now, that was undesirable. However, a noble going to Cyrkensia to relax wasn’t at all unusual. In fact, it would likely be more suspicious if she remained in her estate constantly.
But this wasn’t a leisure trip. No. She was out on business, having found a potential asset with which to gain money if she were to lend them a few of her men. It was beneficial to all involved; her guards would even get a small raise for it. This operation was utterly transparent, so there was no reason for her to be punished for it. With that, the deal was made, and she made her way back to Nohr, four guards flanking all her sides.
It all happened so fast; the gurgling of dying men behind her was quickly followed by the men in front of her being shot with arrows from an unknown assailant. Assassins had come for her, and now, it was three against one. She barely had time to mount a defence, let alone make any sort of offence, and she was inexperienced. She had to think about her moves before acting, which also went in her detriment. This led to the situation now, doing her best to avoid arrows as she dodged or parried the enemy’s blows. She was lucky they wielded only daggers, for she was not confident she would survive if they had proper battlefield weaponry. Still, she couldn’t dodge forever…
