The Seeker and the Madame Starring the Seeker, Serena Leigh and the Madame, Fierre Bergstrom Hoshidan Wilderness Late Afternoon
A vagrant wanderer had made it to the edge of the woods, footsteps heavy from hours of walking. The stops were infrequent, halting progress only to stop for a drink of water.
However, lax as she was meandering through the scenic route of Hoshido, she was aware that someone, no, someones had been following after her. The wind had blown against her back, carrying the unfamiliar scents only humanoids could carry.
At the very least, they hadn’t made a move on her quite yet. Either they pursued her out of simple interest, or were waiting for an opportunity... perhaps a moment of distraction?
Well, whatever.
The figure made her way down a green hillside overlooking a wide plain. The breeze was gentle, caressing tall stalks of grass next to a wide river. Dragonflies buzzed overhead with careless frolicking, soaking in the sunlight upon their small bodies.
What a contrast! Nohr truly was such a drab and dreary place! Just look at all this life!
The woman proceeded into the tall grass, skulking down to conceal herself within the blades.

The sinking sun faded in familiar ways over shaky hills. Familiar, yet alien. It was almost insulting. The amber backdrop seemed to roll over the land, riding uneven grounds with simple ease. Its beauty failed against the Tribe's mountains. The sun, hardly ever visible, left only the briefest hints to its existence. THOSE amber rays proved beauty, proved true ease, and proved Serena Leigh's growing discomfort with her journey.
Ethan was gone, run off with that innkeeper and dragon man to whatever hideout they had. In a way, Serena had given up looking. Her life, her quest, had devolved into simple travel. Hoshido had a beauty in its own. One, that was marred by the constant pressure of her quest. She ate new foods, while those at home suffered. She relaxed in strange springs, while her kin waited for release. Comforts had been thrown away, for a life on the road. For the last few months, Serena had done little more than travel from town to town. She'd do nothing, speak to no one, and move on the next day. People didn't seem to suffer in Hoshido, despite the war. She resented every place she stopped.
These roads proved different. Their hills, an echo of her life. It was almost enough to move her. Two days of them renewed hope in herself. She stalked travelers, hunted animals, and watched practiced her marksmanship. Rusty aim stood shaky, until she fell back in the grove. Though, tracking hadn't been that easy to rekindle. The woman she followed seemed to vanish in approaching valleys. Woods to the left, grass on either sides.
Serena figured that woman would take the grass approaching woodland cover. She almost carried on, willing to forget her little game. Yet, Nohrian paranoia got the better of her.
"You're not in danger." The Seeker said. "Go your way and I'll go mine."

At the words of her chaser, the head of the traveler slid glibly from between the stalks to reveal her messy golden hair. There really was no point to hiding, was there?
"Boo," replied the woman with a pouty look, "Now that's rather boring of you to say." She brushed the foliage aside daintily, stepping back onto the dirt whilst patting down her blue kimono. "I was thinking I was being pursued by the most lecherous of rogues, but I suppose I'm a bit of a romantic myself." Yet now, her pursuer was close enough to take a good gander at. Stark, frosty blue hair, clothes of scarlet and ebony, and a bow on her back, this was most definitely a denizen of the Ice Tribe, of whom she was acquainted.
"I say," she continued after brief pause, "Where are you off to? Perhaps we may accompany each other for a little while?" Serena

Simple words burned. Serena didn't show it. Her face, keeping the same humorous frown acquired by weeks of lonesome travel. Inside, countless accusations backed meaningless words. Every point of guilt, coming from her own voice. Shaking her head of the thought, Serena brushed azure bangs from her eyes.
"Romantic? I can tell. You look like you just came from a gala." Narrow eyes pressed the field beside them. "Do they even have galas here?"
She stepped passed her failed target, streaked grounds carrying her little more than a few feet until the stranger's words paused her again.
"I don't know." The seeker said. "I guess I'm going wherever this road leads me."
She scoffed. When did she lose purpose? Which road was exactly? The one before Ethan, or the one leaving home?
"What about you?" She asked. "Where could you be going dressed like that?"

The woman gave a muffled chuckle. A gala? How quaint. Hoshido was peaceful, but it couldn’t possibly be calm enough to hold such luxurious events.
That is to question, was she wearing something rather ostentatious for a resident of this land? She did go to a specialty shop for her robe, and they loved to throw in accents for their dresses.
Topic of clothing aside, the stranger looked aloof, her words speaking of aimless wandering with no destination.
Well, this is an opportunity, isn’t it?
“As far as I go, dear girl,” the woman spoke with the tips of her fingers pressed on the pit of her clavicle, “You could say that I am in a similar predicament as yourself, only that I know where I ought to be.” Her unoccupied hand rested on her hip, “Oh, and furthermore! Why I am dressed the way I am is simply consequence of wanting to fit snugly-bugly into the culture! Would you not say that I would be painting a target upon my person by wearing Nohrian attire? Nevertheless, I have ‘tourist’ and ‘foreigner’ written all over me. It cannot be helped, you see.”Serena

"Tourist doesn't matter to certain people." Serena said. "I've met a few here that'll look at you with the same suspicion for Nohrian people. Hoshidans are adept at spotting the difference, even if they're better with hospitality. Hell, even if they're judging us, they're just better at hiding it."
She stepped around the decadent stranger. Wagon tracks scared stiff grounds. They offered a sort of loose familiarity. There was a certain peace to the woman. She was an outsider, like Serena, even if she knew where she was going. They were both here.
"Besides." The seeker brushed loose blues from her eyes. "Dressing like that only makes you a target for highwaymen. And yes. Hoshido does have them. I've seen quite a few."

Well, the seeker seemed discerning enough to tell her exactly what was wrong with her cultural perceptions.
Hm, and for that reason, she wondered how soon will it take for her to understand exactly what she was doing out here?
“Highwaymen!” her cheeks puffed, “Rubbish occupation, fit only for scoundrels and the like. Have you heard what atrocious things they’ve done to villages? Why, I hear Hoshido is a rather blessed land, but to have a scourge of bandits? That ought to put a stain on anyone’s pantaloons!” She brought a fist to her mouth as she cleared her throat, “I ought to give those ruffians a word or two should I ever come across them. They are the pinnacle of man-children.” Serena

"It makes sense." She said. Her grim tone and still face betrayed Nohrian resent. "If you have this much, people are going to take it, especially if you can't defend it well enough. I've seen what they've done to villages. Hell, I came from a place where our own king is doing the exact same thing."
Serena paused. Her attention, borrowed by the river's slow rush as it weaved between soaked boulders. Their sides, shaped and contorted. A single fish struggled with the current. He'd fail, with stone slapping his failure.
"But even if you gave them your mind, nothing would change." She spoke more for herself. "One person can't really change much."
Both absurd, and true. How much had Ethan changed? Just enough to outweigh the lack of change Serena brought. Bandits, highwaymen, and brigands seemed inconsequential.
