About
Profession: Soldier
Alliance: Hoshido
Hometown: A small border town called Nishisen.
Likes: Home cooking ("real food"), the countryside and farming life, training, a regimented schedule, his superiors.
Dislikes: The dark, loud or sudden noises and surprises, having nothing to do, the itchy fabric of his uniform, Nohr and Nohr-related things.
Personality: Takeo is a tad broody; the quiet and judgemental type, suffering from significant emotional pain from the recent death of his family and is unable to process it in a healthy way, resulting in his withdrawal from others. He speaks when spoken to, albeit in a less-than-refined and often blunt manner, but will otherwise remain on the sidelines to observe others in a conversation. His parents did raise him to respect other people, so he rarely expresses hostility, preferring to give the silent treatment or sarcastic compliments instead. Those above him in rank will get the much more polite version of Takeo as he bottles up his destructive inner monologue for the sake of image.
He is young - 18 years old - and is caught between being naive about the world and having had maturity forced upon him by the war. Takeo holds a very black and white view about the world, in which Nohrians are bad and Hoshidans are good. He doesn't appreciate that view being challenged. After all, if Nohrians were good, then the war wouldn't be happening. Consequentially, he is fiercely loyal to those he perceives as doing the 'right thing' and is extremely dedicated to his army training.
Biography: Nishisen was hardly unique from the other Hoshidan villages scattered near the Nohrian border, a small settlement with a focus on self-sufficiency and an inn that attracted soldiers and bold travellers alike while they scouted the Bottomless Canyon. Takeo was born there to an unremarkable pair of farmers, and his birth was soon followed by that of his younger sister's. Life was, by all standards, dull and repetitive - the village moved to and fro throughout the seasons at a predictable rythym that ensured their survival, but never quite reached the level at which it could thrive and expand as tensions grew with Nohr across the border.
While the town was fortunately spared from most skirmishes throughout Takeo's lifetime, the death of Queen Mikoto and the fall of the barrier protecting Hoshido from war changed his reality overnight.
The Nohrian army struck Nishisen at night while its inhabitants slept. Under the guise of darkness, their attack not only destroyed the livelihoods of the villagers but strew confusion in its wake. The adult men who were able to collect themselves amongst the chaos tried to fight back, unsuccessfully, while Takeo was tasked with getting his family as far away from the battle as possible. He, his mother, and his sister fled into the night, heading east in the direction of the Hoshidan capital, leaving his father behind. Takeo never heard from him again.
Although he was physically unharmed, save for a few scratches here and there, Takeo was mentally crushed by that event. To make matters worse, on their journey towards a bigger and safer town, his mother and sister grew lethargic and sick, at points collapsing to the ground and forcing Takeo to carry their weak bodies until they regained a little strength. With nothing but their clothes on their backs, there was no way to pay for the few apothecaries they could find as they passed through tiny farming towns hauntingly reminicient of Nishisen. Occasionally the Hoshidan army would move past them in the opposite direction, and rumours carried through the air confirmed that a war had broken out after Queen Mikoto's tragic death.
Takeo's mother was the first to succumb to her illness as the broken family sought refuge in the barn of a local herdsman. She was unsanctimoniously buried in a nearby field by her son. When his sister followed only a few days afterwards, Takeo had no choice but to offer her the same ungracious resting spot. He sat, racked with guilt and depression, for days, until the owners of the property told him that he would have to move on.
Calling upon his fallen father for whatever willpower he could muster, Takeo wandered eastward until, finally, he arrived upon the capital, and with nothing but revenge filling his shell of a heart he signed up for the Hoshidan army. Under their banner he would receive a bed to sleep in and guaranteed meals, and more importantly the chance to stop their Nohrian enemies from reenacting that night assault on Nishisen again on some other poor, innocent farmpeople who had done nothing to deserve such devastation in their lives.
