About
Profession: ScoutOther
Alliance: Hoshido
Hometown: Unnamed Town
Likes: Being the quiet observer of conversations. He enjoys pleasing others without bringing too much attention to himself, an though he scorns work when it is for his own sake, he is happier helping others. This like for being depended on extends to animals also. Herding bugs into traps is a fun game he plays as an alternative to squashing them
Dislikes: One of the reasons he knew he never wanted to be a soldier was all the walking it required. That, and all the stabbing related stuff. And the heavy lifting, though by the grace of gods he was granted a mount to alleviate that concern. He also dislikes himself for his agreeable nature
Personality: Not untalkative, but grows shy and embarrassed when the conversation shifts to him or his work. This awkwardness can become a problem when he stays quiet about something others need to know. For a pony who maintains the appearance of being shy, he is resolved and may offer surprising solutions to a problem.
Conscientious and low in self esteem. He has the peculiar power to sense that misfortune is going to happen, though not of what kind. This has caused him to take a pessimistic outlook on many things. There is no way of telling if he knows something bad was going to happen or if he knows something bad was going to happen. A more cheery person may have been able to make use of such an ability
Biography: The younger of two brothers, Ashen was not the considered the special one. His brother being an accomplished mage from even an early age left him feeling deprived of attention. He fought for the eyes of his parents, but wasn't able to keep up. While he was never going to be the most confident child, this didn’t help him, as he wasn’t of the disruption of using his dear brother as a tool to boost his own popularity. And so he came to be the nice quiet kid just to be sure the identity was his own.
In his early teens there were girls who thought he would be a fun target to tease, but Ash seemed ignorant of the attempts, letting them try and fail at drawing an impulsive response. This only served to make him the target of more unwanted attention he was too passive to object to. One day, rumours of a witch began spreading. He thought this was all bad news or just a rumour, but was still dragged out against his true will in order to get a glance at this witch. To his surprise they were real.
As his instinct had predicted, the witch did not take kindly to the harassment of children. Soon spells that were meant to kill were being thrown, causing the group to scatter and cower. Includes a sudden move of standing for himself he closed r the distance and struck out at the witch. He got casually tossed around for his trouble, but got up and leapt onto the witch as she teleported away.
The witch sensed the wisdom in the child, the pessimism. He was complemented and told that such a trait was a virtue, and that as a reward she would heighten this sense for him so that he would never get into a situation like this again. She referred to it as a blessing, but to live with it, or examine the magic, it was a curse.
His brother published an acclaimed work on the nature of beaststones earned a respect that the younger could not match. While visitors came to see him and his parents, he was often left caring for the mounts others had travelled upon. He knew he was being undervalued, but found a solace in having a dependant that might appreciate the little that he could do.
His timidity forced him into a life path not fully of his own choice. It was a day of grand recruitment at the local castle when Ash came looking to apply. He was there to apply for a more mundane position of stable management, but multiple positions were being fulfilled at the same time. Through the error of approaching the wrong line he ended up applying for a soldier position. He realised his mistake pretty quick but was too weak willed to push back against any of the people around him physically or verbally.
When asked he did make known his experience with animals, and was made to take a compatibility test with the unassigned Pegasuses of the castle. At this he felt a shudder, knowing it would not end well. He matched surprisingly well. This unfortunately led to receiving more on top of what a normal member would receive. Even more unfortunately he was not just trained in a cavalry role, but because of his quiet nature, he was specialised as a scout, meaning more lectures and special training related to working alone.
Status: Single
Pet: His pegasus Albert, whom he likes despite the Nohrian name
Additional Notes: Ash is a boys name, damn it
