Lisette let out a light sigh, as she made light steps across the muddy ground surrounding the river, her fingers lightly holding her hair, to prevent the wind's repeated attempts to push her hair in front of her face obscuring her vision. She stared blankly at her surroundings, it had been such a long time since she last got out of the tailor shop, so admittedly she jumped at the opportunity to be somewhere more quiet, and more safe.
The occasional scutter of of animals nearby slightly fed at her anxiety, but she pushed such negativity away, as she finally halted to a stop and stared at the river. It seemed quite peaceful at this time of day, to say the least, and having walked quite far from the nearby village where she was temporarily staying, she decided that perhaps this would be a nice place to stop for awhile. Pulling out a handkerchief of sorts, she unfolded it, before gently placing it beside the river, and sitting down lightly, and leaned over to place her fingertips upon the river surface.
Her focus remained on the water, as fish splashed by, her mind drifting back and forth to silly things that perhaps didn't even really matter in the grand scheme of things.
The stealthy approach is complete, and there are no reflections upon the water except for the bright blue sky.
Operation Catch Them Fish commence!
A hulking figure lay flat across the gravel with emerald eyes peering down into a rushing river. A trunk-like arm was poised to strike into the water, while the other remained bent as to raise himself to do so. It was like how the friendlier local bears did their fishing. The human method was just too slow and tedious, what with the whole pole and bait thing.
No, none of that! This was much less boring! All there was needed is the opportunity of a passing fish.
Like... NOW!
In a single swift movement, water was cast in a great arc high into the air, and within it were a dozen different types of fish. To the hunter's delight, there was indeed a big fish among them! With a mouth gaping wide open, the brute leapt into the water and clamped his jaw upon it!
However, it was so that he fell into deeper water. With fish in mouth, the person tumbled down the white water, protecting his head with his arms as the river tossed him to and fro.
Eventually, the river began to calm again, and before anyone would realize it, that big person was already face-down in the gravel.
As the initial calm of the water was disturbed, Lisette's eyes widened a bit, as she backed up and away from the river slightly, her face going stone cold in confusion, what could've done that? A bear? It had to be a bear! Or worse... A shark? Or maybe it's the sign of the oncoming apocalypse???
Water rushed in front of her as she saw what seemed like a large figure rush through the water. DEFINITELY A BEAR. Or a giant? Lisette trembled a bit as she saw the river spit out the large hulk of a person, on some of the nearby gravel... It was... A very very intimidating looking person, she eyed it quietly, as she slowly, silently rose to her feet, not taking the time to grab her handkerchief as she tried to maneuver somewhere not nearby what appeared to be the kind of creature that could kill her in mere seconds.
He was way larger than her, so maybe... Maybe getting out silently would be wise. Taking a few gentle steps away from the river, her foot loudly stepped upon a branch, causing her to also loudly trip, with a huge squeak. It was always unfortunate when one tried to hard to be careful, to the point they messed up all the more, and she certainly did right now.
Not taking time to look back, to scared at the possibility of being noticed, she whimpered as she shuffled to her feet, and hid behind a tree, her ears, and clothes poking out from behind it slightly. Maybe if she stayed still the person would leave and she could just regret ever going into the forest?
One of the triangular ears on the head of this large fellow twitched, and he slowly, but surely began to rise to his full height. With a single flopping bass lodged between two pairs of large canines, a crushing bite was applied, instantly snuffing the life out of the fish. With his right arm, he took the fish by its tail in his large hands and removed it from his mouth.
Hmm? His bushy tail appeared from behind him as it lifted in the air in attentiveness, and his nostrils flared gently as he began to sniff the air.
There was a strange smell. Something had lingered nearby.
Wait, what's that by the bank? A cloth?
In an instant, the big man dropped on all fours and began to crawl like a dog, sniffing the ground, as it were. He hovered over the piece of cloth on the ground with interest, then bent as far down as he could to sniff it.
It kind of smelled like... rabbit! Ooh, rabbit! Small little things, not very meaty, but still tasty. The pups would be pretty happy with a treat like that.
With a newfound interest, he began to travel in the direction of the scent, apparently toward the woods. Lisette
Lisette stayed still for a few moments before peeking her head out to see what was happening, and her eyes widened as she noticed the weird wolfskin sniffing at the cloth she left behind... Her hands clasped themselves over her face as she muttered, "I'm going to die, I'm going to die..." to herself. The distance she was no longer felt sufficient, but she was certain the bizarre larger person would easily catch her if a chase ensued, so she glanced around in a frenzied panic.
A bush? Maybe, just maybe... She could hide in a bush? No that was dumb she'd make a lot more noise... She could jump in the river like he had done... But she was most certain she'd drown so that wasn't honestly a good idea in her mind. Seeing a branch to the tree, her eyes widened a bit, as she suddenly grabbed ahold and started trying to pull herself up. She clearly had never done this before, taking a lot long than she should've to get on one branch. "I-I'm really gonna die..." She mumbled, and while that thought didn't always bother her, if she were to die, she wouldn't want it to be like this.
Trying to use all the minuscule amount of strength she had she started to pull herself to the next branch, her legs kicking as she took a bit to anchor herself on it. She trembled in panic, she was so high up, a tiny bit higher than her head would be if she was standing below, and as she tried to reach the next branch, no doubt this would be even harder for her to get upto.
The rabbit's scent trail stopped at the tree, but the scent was rather strong here. There was no sign of any movement anywhere.
Darn, the rabbit must've jumped in a hole or something.
The fellow's head turned toward the ground again and began inspecting around the tree. Nope, no holes! How strange!
"Do rabbits climb trees?" he wondered aloud with a tilt of his head, "Squirrels climb, but never seen a rabbit climb." He sat his haunches down and put a hand to his chin as he contemplated the very possibility. "Rabbits have big feet for hopping, no claws for climbing. Grrrmmmm... hard thoughts."
At that moment, his head tilted back to look up into the tree. His pupils dilated at the sight of a big pink object. It was totally indistinguishable from a rabbit, and moreover, its bright color caught him totally off guard.
"Whoa!" he cried as his body leapt away from the tree. He immediately dropped on all fours and started snarling, his ears pressing back, "Who goes there?!" Lisette
