About
Profession: Great sorceress (stage magician)
Alliance: Nohr
Hometown: Windmire
Likes: Magic, pretty colours, attention and all that is expected of a performer. She enjoys playing her slightly exaggerated character as much as others do seeing it.
Dislikes: Mainly the boring things that boring people consider to be ‘real work’.
Personality:
Stagework requires confidence, and she has never had trouble presenting herself to others. This willingness to be bold extends to one on one interactions. She is one to test the limits of authority but not out of irreverence for it.
What remains after the stage persona is a young and idealistic light mage that believes she has much to offer the world. As quick with witt as with her hands, a trait which is valuable and moral in a land that does not forgive weakness. She however does forgive much, and though she has fun playing the part of a powerful conjurer, it is the role of a benevolent one where she can be.
It is, of course, the fault of Hoshido that lawlessness is as high as it is. Resources can't be expected to be taken away from the war, and so it often comes to giving them an education about the good of their country.
Biography: Amethyst, something about her being the little jewel of her parents. They were nice, inoffensive, and worrisome, but it was rather annoying to the child. Her choice of activities didn't help. Windmire was a great home for a social youth. It might have been scary to the timid but in a group you were stronger than anything. They got into trouble like any kids would, and they also had their one time they got in really deep trouble.
The group had made their way late in the day to on one the many unsavoury parts of the city. Since they'd been told many times about the meanness of these individuals, they devised a plot to steal from some of them. As Amethyst was the smaller and more dexterous of the group, she was assigned one of the harder roles in the heist.
But plans are fragile, and a young lady had no quiet way of opening a crate, or getting away with one of the sacks within. The noise drew attention, and one thing led to another...suddenly there were multiple armed men that hypocritically opposed her wealth redistribution.
When she bumped into a stranger, she may have been crying. At long odds the person she bumped into cared, and at longer odds still they were a powerful mage. With only the most basic spells the men were deterred. They held a rock which light shone through and declared themselves to be a powerful sorcerer. This persuaded them to give up rather than face a second volley of more powerful.
As children are want to do, she latched onto this detail of light projecting power. She could be a powerful person like that, she wanted to be. To command respect and attention. She clung to the mage afterwords and pried into the how they did it, and the mage responded with a deal. In exchange for giving what she stole for them to return, Amethyst would be given the old tome that was used to repel her assailants.
She has never stopped to think how a puny spell was able to repel so many, or what the coincidence that lead to their meeting was. The mage was just simply so kind as to want to return property, even to thieves. More forgiving than the law. From then on no harshness in the world could diminish her idealism.
Alongside her first book, she was given a boring adult lecture on why preparation was important and coincidence could not be relied upon to save them. Of course with the power of a master mage, providence didn’t need to be relied upon.
It was not uncommon for her to be away from home for days at a time before, but this all changed when she got serious about her art. She'd passed magic off as the domain of the super smart in the past but there was plenty that relied on skill, practice and problem solving acumen, which were thing she had pride in.
This period of reclusive study was effective in some ways, but left her lacking in experience. Her light magic was of a passing grade, but her other tricks suffered from a lack a certain mystery element should could not pin down, and so she grew adventurous once more.
She ventured the streets where the tome she held had once been used to save her. Light was a harmless party trick, until you were able to focus it to burn or harden it to stab your enemies with the aid of its speed. When she encountered another mage, she asked how they did things. This information sometimes helped her and other times she was given a pat on the head and a frustrating comment about tricks never being revealed, which she would later learn the importance of.
Hurting people was not an avenue to profit her mystery mentor would have wanted her to take, and so she turned the power to entertainment. She was not some proud mage from some college after all, and so found no indignity in such use of the art. Backing the magic up with repurposed sleight of hand tricks picked up from a less than honest childhood, and a show women was born.
Once that decision was made, economics dictated that she widen her horizons with some travel. After all, everyone needed a little light in their life sometimes, and she needed to be there to provide it.
