It was a quiet night in the tavern. The rain outside drove many people inside their own homes. The sound of it was almost lost to Raijin over the roaring crackle of the fireplace. A few low voices chattered among themselves as people drank across the room. Raijin took their drink and sat not too far from these people. While appearing invested in his own drink, he listened carefully to the men nearby, picking up bits of their conversation that had been just loud enough to hear.
“Just think of the pay off though mate.”
“Yeah, but it's crawlin' with those monsters. It ain't worth my life.”
That caught his interest. He shifted in his seat and edged his ear closer to the men. He caught details of the farm that had been overrun by monsters. They say that there was a bounty on them all. And a storehouse that was full of loot. Probably a till filled with gold. His fingers twitched anxiously. It'd be something sweet to make off with. He wondered how easy it would be to sneak there while others distracted the monsters. While his partner kept them busy. He raised the flask to his lips and took a drink. The rain could cause a great distraction, though it would make other people hesitant and slow their movements. In good conscious, Rai couldn't just abandon people he didn't know to die, right?
With drink finished, he made his way to the room he and Morgan were renting. Didn't matter to him to have a single room between friends. With door closed, he spoke. “I might have a lead. And if we act fast enough we might convince others to join us.” But Raijin didn't have the charisma to charm others to follow him blindly. With a simple shrug he then added, “Or we could go alone. Things might get bloody.”
