Personality
Though not overly friendly, Fensir is generally a pleasure to be around once he warms up to someone. He tends to push people away out of fear of letting them down, but he is extremely loyal to those he considers close friends. He is most relaxed in the evening and into the night, but is quite cranky when forced to wake up early. Fensir is a competent combatant despite the lack of faith in his own abilities. He consistently doubts himself and over analyzes most situations, although it doesn't show in a fight.
To strangers he often comes across as having a chip on his shoulder - a trait that is amplified when he drinks. While his life has not been all that bad, Fensir can sometimes be incredibly pessimistic and refuses to accept responsibility for his problems. That being said, he has never refused good food or a drink from a stranger.
While Fensir is typically calm and collected, there are a few things that easily excite him. He has a fascination with rare and ornate weapons, even if they're only ceremonious. He also enjoys the challenge of tracking other people down, especially when there is money involved.
Biography
Though his childhood home was technically a smaller village outside of Shirasagi, Fensir considers his hometown to be the capital city of Hoshido. His mother stayed at home and cared for both him and his sister. His father was a high ranking sky knight, as was his grandfather and even his father before that. The legendary spear, Kazenoyoni, was passed down to the eldest heir when its wielder either retired or fell in battle. The weapon is their family's greatest heirloom, though it has not been used in battle in more than a century.
At the age of six his father began teaching him how to ride a horse, but Fensir was a slow learner. He repeatedly lost his balance and was thrown from the steed. His father, who was capable of wielding a lance while mounted upon a pegasus by the age of twelve, grew increasingly impatient and insisted that Fensir dedicate every waking hour to improving his riding skills. Fensir routinely shirked his duties, opting to spend time with his friends dueling with katanas and harassing other villagers.
At sixteen his father insisted that he enter the annual tournament. The festival lasted nearly an entire week, enticing people from across the entire country to travel to Shirasagi for food, drink and entertainment. Fensir participated in the joust as he was instructed and finished dead last. However, he also competed with the katana without his father's knowledge. To hide his identity, he wore loose, black clothing and concealed his face with a mask during the fights. None of his opponents stood a chance.
Fensir revealed his identity following his victory, sending his father into a hysterical rage. His father refused to accept his son's mastery of the blade and disowned him. With nowhere to turn to, Fensir decided to join the Hoshidan military. While he was a competent warrior upon the battlefield, his lack of discipline meant he was a liability and ultimately resulted in his discharge. Thankfully he had saved enough money to live off of for a short while.
While on the road, Fensir stayed in a small village for a few days, sleeping at the local inn while trying to find work. He was propositioned by a guard at the bar who noticed his weapon, offering a respectable amount of money to track down a samurai who had abandoned his duty. The only requirement was that the target had to be returned alive. Fensir was intrigued and quickly accepted.
For the next several years, he would travel within Hoshido spending his days tracking down villians, deserters and anyone else someone might be looking for - as long as the price was right. He could survive off most bounties for weeks, sometimes even months. Shortly after his 27th birthday, Fensir had received a rather large bounty and decided to head back home to Shirasagi. He had avoided the politics and his family for the past several years. As he headed home, he wondered how much the city had changed.
