Dislikes: Spicy food,
Personality:
A lot of people claim it is hard to read Oliver, and not just because of the eccentric manner of speech he has adopted. He has shown moments of naivety and moments of callous and calculated mannerisms. Because of this those foreign to him find it hard to tell if he is one person or two people. Those that know him well enough can understand the lad's true nature, someone who is curious about people of the world and how they react to different things. This isn't to say that Oliver is a bad person, he's just someone who wants to know more about people. As well as someone who looks for socialization.
He has a habit of inciting small riots in towns, such as mentioning to a person with gigantism (albeit falsely) how the chef of a restaurant made a comment about having to work overtime to feed the big guy sufficiently. All just to see what would happen. This might get him points against himself from other people, but to Oliver it's humorous to watch how people let little things snowball out of control. With friends he is known for being on a much better level of behavior, though is also reputed for giving friendly remarks to chide them into a debate.
On the battlefield he seems like a different person, always with a smile on his face when locked in combat with someone who seems interesting enough for him. Those who just don't interest him he will rebuke about being a poorly written character and act much more coldly towards. Though no matter what, there's always a hint of a smile on his face, the look in his eyes one of concern, joy, something sinister even. The only way to break his smile is to endanger the life of one of his comrades, which makes the budding author want to rush over and save someone who's story isn't ready to be ended yet.
Biography:
Oliver grew up in a small odd bit of a town called Haven up near the border of Nohr and Hoshido in the north. While described as a town, it is a large group of nomads that set up large caravans and build shops while setting up near other towns from time to time and doing trade with people of Hoshido, Nohr, the Kitsune and Wolfkin alike. Because of the nature of the town, it was rich with culture from the different sources they engaged in commerce with.
After Oliver was born, he was raised by a loving mother and father and a pair of grandparents with a grandfather who was particularly fond of coming to read stories to the infant. This little tradition would continue with the former author coming to visit Oliver from time to time to read the growing boy more stories of strange worlds unlike anything that the lands of Nohr or Hoshido had ever seen. All of these stories got young Oliver interested in books!
Ollie's interest in books was so profound that he would take some of the money he made with trading in the caravan to bookstores in the villages that they visited, setting up his own little collection but not finding as much joy in them as the stories his grandfather read to him. Oliver would ask his grandfather directly one day just what it was that made those stories so special. The answer was quite simple, they were all written specifically for the young boy to hear and for the family alone. Though the thought never occurred to Oliver, he had to question why it was like that, so his grandpa simply told the boy, "I've already published enough books in my life. I want someone else to share stories for me when I'm gone."
He wouldn't be able to at first, but the young Oliver would start trying to write his own stories, trying to compare to his grandpa, who began to lose his sight in his old age, and couldn't read to Oliver anymore. Not wanting to hear the end of the stories, Oliver decided it was best to try and do the same, which would become his hobby even through his teen years. While they were juvenile stories at first, Oliver developed his skill over time and even made his grandpa proud. It was endearing for the lad who even developed a dream to achieve one day, write a book with a genre that the world had yet to read.
The dream would have to be put on hold, as Oliver's home town was attacked by roving bandits and monsters within a month. First the bandits came and ransacked the place, damaging a lot of property, killing dozens and injuring many more. It made the roving monsters looking for something quick to eat and kill all too easy. Many were spared the decimation of Haven, but many more were lost. It forced Oliver to flee from his village with barely anything left save for the scarf that was knit for his father and the leather cased one-of-a-kind book that belonged to his grandpa.
Now Oliver moves from place to place, trying to achieve one of three things:
1 - Finish his own book and have it published
2 - Find the rumored New Haven set up by survivors of Old Haven
3 - Find a group of people to travel with and catalog their adventures for his book
